On a news-site, the client wants me to implement a way to share a story (just a link, really) via Email, facebook and twitter.
I could write some code for each sharing-method, but it seems very likely, that some sort of service or library would exist, that shares the current url to different services. Maybe even with some tracking on what is shared - for statistic purposes.
Does such a service or library exist?
Check AddThis.com. It supports many services. I looks like this
.
AddToAny is a similar service the already suggested to AddThis. Cannot give you pros/cons between them.
Lots more options out there.
Sharethis

easiest way would be just to include a URL that then sent the user to facebook. In otherwords, forget the Addthis.come and use these:
facebook:
link or image
Twitter:
link or image
Good luck

I want to include on my web site a 'Find us on Facebook' graphic and link it to a facebook 'business' page - nothing more sophisticated than that. Do I simply copy the graphic from another random web site and put in my link, or is there a better 'facebook approved' way of doing this? (I've tried it the non-facebook way already and its necessary for users who click the link to log in to facebook. Can anyone also advise of the privacy settings that will avoid this)? Thanks
Have you considerd making use of the Like Box social plugin? See http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like-box/
The plugin mentioned by nav is definitely the way to go. By using the facebook plugin, users won't have to login (granted they're already logged in to Facebook). This is because the plugin can access the cookie set by Facebook whenever they logged in. Your ad-hoc link cannot do this.
Check out https://www.facebook.com/badges/page.php This is what you're looking for.
You are correct in the fact that you can use a simple image and a link to the page.
However the answer provided by NAV would be the most 'facebook approved' way.
I have an app and I am using ShareKit for sharing in Facebook. I am able to share URLs, images and texts to FB using that. But why did the link/url share do not work the same way as when I share a url from Web Facebook. I have got many contents like image in my url and while doing the Share through web I am able to see the image and a small portion of content, but while I am doing it from iPhone using ShareKit, it just gives the heading/title and we need to click on that link(no images or contents).
If anyone know the solution, please help.
When you share a link on the Facebook site it will automatically fetch the URL and display some appropriate images that you can choose from. However, when directly interacting with the API this won't happen. You must provide the image yourself (or Facebook may use the image associated with your application). ShareKit may abstract this away from you, so you might want to look into using the Facebook SDK and Graph APIs directly.
I fixed the issue. Instead of posting(POST) the attachment dialog, just use GET method in the load function and pass the link you want to share. :)
I am trying to create a bookmarklet to process some Facebook data about my contacts, what will possibly require to load another profile pages and see who my friends are.
I am trying to know which urls should I query to get this information. And also how to interact with FB's UI libraries and/or elements.
Is there any documentation for this?
You probably are looking for Facebook JavaScript SDK.
Here is documentation on the FB.ui(): http://fbdevwiki.com/wiki/FB.ui
EDIT: it's updated by user contributions and lately it hasn't been changed much
I want to give sharing option in my app for sharing data, images, webpages, etc. with Facebook, Twitter, Email. What is best option for me?
I'm going through ShareKit that I have never used. Is it any good or do I have to try something else?
Suggest me some ShareKit like links.
ShareKit is brilliant.
Recently there's been an intermittent problem with Facebook's "Connect" API, which is what ShareKit uses. A lot of existing, deployed apps (including some big names) have been facebook-broken over the last couple weeks. Facebook claims to be working on it, and in fact my app that uses ShareKit IS working right now, but ultimately SK needs to move to the newer Graph API.
Definitely Sharekit is good idea to share data, urls and images(not to twitter) with Facebook, twitter and Email but you can't share images in Twitter.
like web project where we can share to socialnetworks by cliking on fb share/like button ,tweet button. i want to do the same thing in my ipad app.please any one help me?
You can either use each social networks API individually, or you can use ShareKit.
ShareKit is a lot simpler, and easier to use, but there are very few limitations, but mostly it does everything you need it to. And the limitations are outweighed by the easy of use. (you'll still need to register as a developer on the social networks you want to support, there is a tutorial on the website, and explanation in the code)
Just read the documentation of the twitter and Facebook API, then use the REST interface to interact with the service.
For that you have to make the application which integrates facebook and twitter
USe the following link for doing so
1. For Twitter
2. For Facebook
