Cached/offline maps for iPhone? - iphone

I'd like to use use maps in my application, so that there will be as less as possible traffic. Perfect solution would be caching of map slices. I know it's not possible with google maps (license). I took a look on OpenStreetMaps and it seems as good solution. The next: SDK. The only one I've found is from CloudMade. The problem is, I found no related API methods for caching/offline calls.
Are there any alternative solutions?

You might find more information on the Route-Me project Wiki.

Nice Core-Plot implementations OSX

I am using Core Plot for a little App I am programming at the moment and I was wondering if there are any good looking examples or resources. With good looking I don't mean the google docs Example App ;)
Core Plot includes a number of example apps that demonstrate various features. There is also wiki page on the Core Plot site with links to many apps that use it.
I am not sure that what are you looking for as you have not cleared your question. But i am telling you this link: http://www.johnwordsworth.com/2011/10/adding-charts-to-your-iphone-ipad-app-using-core-plot/ which certainly will help you.

Google maps API is great for developing location based services for mobile phones. But for some reason, the use of it is restricted for me in a special project.
E.g. if your project is in conflict with the general terms and conditions of google it is not recommended to use google maps API.
In my app, both Android and iOS, I want to display a location on a map by retrieving GPS information. Overall the API should offer a similar scope of operation like google maps API.
Which alternatives do you know? Maybe there are open source API's? Any other suggestions?
To get the best possible answer to this question I combine all given answers.

To name a few, unless I totally misunderstood your question.
I would have a look at the Openstreetmap stuff http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Android especially this http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Osmdroid a replacement for Androids Map View
For your iOS project you could use Route-Me (link). This is an open source framework that pretty much provides the same functionality as MapKit, but allows to integrate different map sources (e.g. Open Street Map, Cloudmade etc.). As far as I know, this is the only alternative you have on iOS.
For Android, there are various alternatives that allow you to use alternate map sources. See this link for a good list of options.
If you are looking for just Geocoding and reverse geocoding you could check out tinygeocoder. I haven't used it myself, but it could be an option to review.
Great list of alternatives to Google Maps being generated here. Good question. Not sure about your appliation - but one more from Nokia - Ovi Maps http://api.maps.ovi.com/ . They have some excellent data (they own Navtech) and incredible 3D visualization.
What about SimpleGeo?

Seems quite promising. It's form the same people that have done:

I realized that it was only available for javascript sorry. But I found this one instead:

TomTom has just released it's Map Toolkit API which includes SDKs for Android, iOS and JavaScript. See http://developer.tomtom.com/.
DISCLAIMER: I work for TomTom and I created the JavaScript SDK.
Another one is MapBox

In their video there was foursquare shown as a user.

There's Sasha Maps, which I happened to write :-)
http://www.maryanovsky.com/sasha/maps/
Written in GWT, supports all desktop browsers, iOS and Android. You will need to provide your own tiles (or find someone who will let you use theirs).
Some location-based APIs (not map tiles) - don't know if it would be useful for your project - travel time calculations, public transit data and walkability (Walk Score) for maps.

(Disclaimer: I didn't write them, but I work there as front end dev - so let me know if any documentation is unclear! :D)

Using Route-Me to as Mapping Alternative

I would like to user route-me in a mapping application because I need to support disconnected use 90% of the time.
I have looked at their tutorials, but I am looking for how to download tiles and store them on my device so the application works with no network connectivity at all.
If I missed a similar question in stackoverflow, I apologize in advance.
You'll want to use RMMBTilesTileSource
Check out this example from the folks over at mapbox (also they have a great tool for creating mbtile [sqlite] db's too)

Ciao!

MKMapView, Google Maps API and traffic information

By the time you finish reading this question, it will become obvious to you that I'm pretty new to this development. But I've got a quick question here. I think I (unfortunately, sorta) know the answer, but I figured I'd ask, anyway:
I'm working on an app in which I'd like to display traffic data from Google Maps into a map. Easy enough, it seems. I can easily put the a MKMapView and center it on the desired location. I can also create a custom Google Maps API that I can look at on my browser, and it would display the traffic data with the GTrafficOverlay object.
Now...
Can I use the API traffic data (in Javascript) and parse it into the MKMapView implementation? I don't think so... right?
So, my only other option is to do a UIWebView instead, right? I just link to that page, and I'm good to go.
Also... Is there a major drawback to doing that? I know I lose a bit of the built-in interface, but beyond that, it doesn't seem to be that huge a difference, right?
And, also, if I want to use that Google Code API, how do I implement it in place? Do I have to have that HTML file somewhere in a server, or can I have it as part of my resources, or what?
Sorry about all the questions, but thanks in advance for any suggestions y'all might have!
You can't parse the javascript into the MKMapView implementation directly.
Yes you can use a UIWebView. I've only had a brief look at that, and it was pretty nasty with default behaviour, because both the web view and the map view try to respond to drag events etc. There is probably a way of tuning that out - you would want to look for SDK2.x examples as there was no other maps solution then.
This post may also provide a lot of help.

Basic route information with Cloudmade

I am trying to use CloudMade's route-me service in my application. All I need from the service is driving distance between two locations, I don't want to display it in a map.
There doesn't seem to be any tutorial in CloudMade's website that handles this. I mailed to the support address they have provided. Nothing back from them so far. Any help from people who done this before would be highly appreciated.
I lost hope with this one, and asked for an alternate option, and found a good solution with CloudMade after all.
