I am a registered Apple developer. I am developing an iPhone application for my client. If i want to give my app build to my client for testing my build, do i need to create a build using my adhoc provisioning profile and send the build as well as my adhoc provisioning profile to my client? If yes, how can they install my build on their iPhone devices?
Could someone guide me please?
Thank in advance.
Yes, you'll need to do an build with an adhoc provisioning profile.
Your client will need to drag the provisioning file to iTunes. I'm assuming you'll be emailing a ZIP file of the application package to the client. They should unzip it and drag the resulting folder on Windows or package on OS X to iTunes and sync their phone.

I have a problem, I've got ad-hoc distribution povisioning profile. I have done all procedure
product/archive and there are only two buttons validate and distribute and NO share button.
What to do? I followed this tutorial http://diaryofacodemonkey.ruprect.com/2011/03/18/ad-hoc-app-distribution-with-xcode-4/ But there no button share.
I tried to click distribute then chose save for enterprise or ad-hoc distribution then saved it but ipa file doesn't work on IPhone(.
Please help me.
I will try to make it simple for you:
Collect UDID for each iPhone/iPad you have then login to the provisioning profile and open the Devices page and add them.
Generate distribution certificate from the provisioning portal
Create new APP ID with bundle ID
Create ad-doc dist. profile
login to iTunes Connect and create the App details
download and install the ad-hoc profile and the certificate you generated.
configure your xcode project to referee to the bundle id and sign the build with the profile you just installed.
archive the project and distribute it through www.testflightapp.com or just send the ipa file to the testers so they can install it through iTunes.
TestFlightApp will make your life easier and save you time telling the testers how to download the ipa through the itunes.
Do you have the UUID of the device you are trying to install to registered to your developer account and added to your ad-hoc provisioning profile?
Is the build configuration used for archiving set to use this provisioning profile?
When you archived to a .ipa, did you try to install it through iTunes?
I am working on an iPhone application for a customer. After the development will be finished the application will be on the Apple Store, but meanwhile during its development, on a regular basis the customer wants to see and install the application on his own phone to check the current status of the development.
-I went to the provisioning portal registered my customer's device udid and added to my application's provisioning profile.
-I downloaded the provisioning profile and installed it.
-I then built the ipa and sent it to my customer.
SHouldn't this be enough?
The customer is experimenting a sync error. He can import the ipa inside itunes but at the end of the sync he receive this error alert on his iphone.I tested this ipa file on two other iphones and is working (both registered and one is ios 5.1 and the other 5.0.1)..Where should I check for misconfigurations?
I'm running the latest xcode version 4.3.1
Make sure you build with the distribution provision. I use a new Xcode build configuration for this (called Ad Hoc) and I make sure my archive build uses this new build configuration. The customer will need a copy of this distribution provision (which he double clicks), and you send him the ipa file. He drags this into his iTunes library and he is then able to install the app to his device.
Sometimes the provisioning profile needs to be installed on the device separately. I encountered this problem once with my team member who had Windows.
Just send your customer the profile and ask to install it on the device.
You may need iPhone Configuration Utility to install the profile on the device.
I have created Map application for iPhone using xcode 3.2 and sdk 4.3.2. I have created
ipa file and send it to my client. But he is unable to run my project on his iPod. What are
the steps to follow for my client to run an project ipa file. Do my client need to jailbroke his device????
Open iTunes, drag the ipa to the library and then sync the device. Make sure the app is selected to be installed on the device.
The only other thing I can think of, is that his device is not provisioned to run the application. Have him give you the UDID, add him to the provisioning profile and then make another build if the first solution does not work.
And no he doesn't need to jail break his device.
don't jailbreak!
use testflightapp.com :)
follow their directions, and make sure you register your client's device and update your provisioning profiles when building your app.
good luck!
if you have a developper licence, you should try TestFlightApp.com.
I've just explained what's this tool there: How do install iPhone application from Xcode to a remote iPhone
I have a developed an iphone application. The web service was developed by someone who is remote and does not have a developer account / xcode etc. He does have iTunes though.
Is there a way for me to allow his iphone to install the application without him having to create a developer account, have xcode etc? A way to make the application available to his iTunes would be ideal.
Is this possible?
Many thanks,
Fidel
Get his iPhone device UDID. Then create a distribution profile for ad-hoc distribution and add his UDID to the profile. Create a distribution build of your app and sign with that distribution profile. Send over the build .app and the .mobileprovision (provisioning profile) to him. He will have to install the profile first via iTunes (drag and drop to Library section and then sync) and then similarly he can install the app once the profile is successfully installed.
I am developing an app for iPhone. How can I test this app on my device?
What are the procedures to follow? Please give information regarding this problem.
Deploying iPhone Apps to Real Devices
http://mobiforge.com/developing/story/deploying-iphone-apps-real-devices
In brief:
Sign up for the iPhone Developer Program
Obtain an iPhone Development Certificate
Generate a Certificate Signing Request
Generate, download and install your provisioning profile
Download and install your Development Certificate
Deploy your iPhone application.
Things you will need are
your private key.
your provisioning profile (with the UUID of your device added).
go to project settings and change code signing entity to your
distribution profile.
then you can build and run after connecting your device.
1) Open Xcode,
2) Go to Active SDK, and select the OS version running on your test device (viewable by going to Settings->General->About on the device).
3) With your project open, click on "Build and Run" (or press Command-R) to run the project, which will prompt you to allow access to your keychain.
4) Once deployed, the app will run automatically.
Distribution
First of all, to run the app on your phisical device you must enroll to the apple developer program.
Second, generate a developer certificate and download it. Then, import the certificate into Xcode and here you go.
There are some steps you need to follow to test your app on your personal iPhone. Below you can find all the steps:
Creat MAC certificate at first step.
Second step is to upload that certificate to developer account.
Now you should open developer account at
http://www.developer.apple.com
You can now find an option for device id in your developer account on
left side.
Now you should register your iphone device.
It is time to create your unique identifier on developer account
Download your certificate and install it on xcode organize
Now open your project embed your unique identifier in your project.
These steps can be beneficial for all software testing gusy involved in mobile application testing.
