Perl CSV without exponential - perl

I am generating CSV, and I want to store numbers without exponential format.
Please give me some suggestion.
I tried:
I used , perfectly,
I tried single quote before the large number, so I got as expected out in CSV, but number fore it showed single quote, if I click that number then number displaying perfectly.
I tried with delimeter, that is ' quote before one trailing slash.
So far no luck.

You might try using something like the Math::BigInt module:
use Math::BigInt;
my $num = new Math::BigInt(2);
$num=$num**128;
print "$num\n";
which will output:
340282366920938463463374607431768211456

My Perl variable to variable substitutions do not work

I have a substitution to make in a Perl script, which I do not seem to get working. I have a string in a text file which has the form:
T+30H
The string T+30H has to be written in many files and has to change from file to file. It is two digits and sometimes three digits. First I define the variable:
my $wrffcr=qr{T+\d+H};
After reading the file containing the string, I have the following substitution command (starting with the file capture)
#scrptlines=<$NCLSCRPT>;
foreach $scrptlines (#scrptlines) {
$scrptlines =~ s/$wrffcr/T+$fcrange2[$jj]H/g;
}
$fcrange2[$jj] is defined and I confirm its value by printing its value just before the above 4 lines of code.
print "$fcrange2[$jj]\n";
When I run my script, nothing changes for this particular substitution. I suspect it is to do with the way I define the string to be substituted.
I will appreciate any assistance.

Watch out for the first + in my $wrffcr=qr{T+\d+H};. It'll make it match 1 or more Ts, not T followed by a +. You probably want
my $wrffcr=qr{T\+\d+H};

how to extract strings in between period, asterisk and words

I have this powershell script. The idea is to generate a report but the I need to split the string on "certificate.common_name" and put on separate column.
here's my script, and this works okay, however, I cannot assume the client code will always start in position 7.
$WriteStr = $order.certificate.common_name, $order.date_created, $order.certificate.days_remaining, $order.certificate.common_name.Substring(7,2), $Tag -join, ","
so basically, I want to get "1z" on this string(certificate.common_name) "*.test.1z.sample.com"

Getting Error of Modification of a read-only value attempted

I am trying to select the below value from database:
Reporting that one of #its many problems had been the recent# extended
sales slump in women's apparel, the seven-store retailer said it would
start a three-month liquidation sale in all of its stores.~(A) its

recently~(C) its many problems is the recently~(D) their many problems

i am selecting this value in variable $ques and then selecting a text as below:
$ques=~s/^(.*?)\#(.*?)\#(.*?)$/$2/;
Now, while replacing the ~ character in the string by
$3=~s/~/\n/g; ---->line 171
and running the script, I am getting one error as:
Modification of a read-only value attempted at main.pl line 171
I want to replace all the ~ character with '\n' and print the final value. Please suggest how to do it.
*I have researched this on net, but got confused that how to handle these read only variables.
You've already got a good explanation of the problem from José Castro. But there's another solution if you're using a recent-ish version of Perl (Update: having checked more carefully, I find that means 5.14+). The /r argument to the substitution operator will copy your string, make the substitution on the copy and then return that altered value.
So you could write:
my $new_value = $3 =~ s/~/\n/rg;
It sounds like what you really want in this case is split rather than regular expression capture groups:
my #parts = split(/#/, $ques);
$parts[2] =~ s/~/\n/g;
It makes the intent of your code clearer since you are, in fact, splitting on # symbols.
Just like you say, the special variables $1, $2, etc., are read-only, and that means that you can't perform that substitution on them.
Performing the substitution on $ques will do what you need:
$ques =~ s/~/\n/g;
print $ques;
Do note that in the earlier substitution that you're performing on $ques you're getting rid of all the ~ characters.

Removing quotes that seem to be nonexistent in MatLab

I have an application that translates the .csv files I currently have into the correct format I need. But, the files I that I do have seem to have '"' double quotes around them, as seen in this image, which will not work with the program. As a result, I'm using this command to remove them:
for m = 1:currentsize(1)
for n = 1:currentsize(2)
replacement{m,n} = strrep(current{m,n}, '"', '');
end
end
I'm not entirely sure that this works though, as it spits this back at me as it runs:
Warning: Inputs must be character arrays or cell arrays of strings.
When I open the file in matlab, it seems to only have the single quotes around it, which is normal for any other file. However, when I open it in notepad++, it seems to have '"' double quotes around everything. Is there a way to remove these double quotes in any other way? My code doesn't seem to do anything as seen here:
After using xlswrite to write the replacement cell-array to a .csv file, one appears corrupted. Any idea why?
So, my questions are:
Is there any way to remove the quotes in a more efficient manner or without rewriting to a csv?
and
What exactly is causing the corruption in the xlswrite function? The variable replacement seems perfectly normal.

Regarding the "corrupted" file. That's not a corrupted file, that's an xls file (not xlsx). You could verify this opening the text file in a hex editor to compare the signature. This happens when you chose no file extension or ask excel to write a file which can't be encoded into csv. I assume it's some character which causes the problems, try to isolate the critical line writing only parts of the cell.
Regarding your warning, not having the actual input I could only guess what's wrong. Again, I can only give some advices to debug the problem yourself. Run this code:

if ~isempty(lastwarn)
keyboard
lastwarn('')

end

This will launch the debugger when a warning is raised, allowing you to check the content of current{m,n}
It is mentionned in the documentation of strrep that :
The strrep function does not find empty strings for replacement. That is, when origStr and oldSubstr both contain the empty string (''), strrep does not replace '' with the contents of newSubstr.
You can use this user function substr like this :
for m = 1:currentsize(1)
for n = 1:currentsize(2)
replacement{m,n} = substr(current{m,n}, 2, -1);
end
end
Please use xlswrite function like this :
[status,message] = xlswrite(___)
and check the status if it is zero, that means the function did not succeed and an error message is generated in message as string.

perl sequence extraction loop

I have an existing perl one-liner (from the Edwards lab) that works wonderfully to read a text file (named ids.file) that contains one column of IDs and searches a second, specially formatted text file (named fasta.file in this example - in "fasta" format for those who know bioinformatics) and returns sequences that match the ID from the first file. I was hoping to expand this script to do two additional things:
The current perl one-liner only seems to work if the ids.file contains one column of data. I would like it to work on a file that contains two columns (separated by spaces), and act on the second column of data (well, really any column of data, but I assume that it will be obvious enough to adapt it if someone can give an example using a second column)
I would like to append the any results returned from the output of the search to a third column, instead of just to a new file.
If someone is kind enough to offer an example but only has time or inclination to work on one of these, I would prefer that you try to solve #2 - I have come close to solving #1 with a for loop that uses awk to only use the Perl code on the second column - I haven't gotten it yet, but am close, so #2 seems like the harder one to me.
The perl one liner is as follows:
