I want to apply a class-name like "current" to an actionlink (in the master view) when it points to the current URL, in order to indicate an "on-state" in the UI. How might I do this?
UPDATE: I understand how to apply an attribute, I just need to know how to get the actionlink to know that it is pointing to the current page.
I suspect MVC's ViewContext.RouteData.Values["action"] would be useful for this. The RouteData has a range of key/value pairs (such as the Action mentioned here) that allow you to retrieve information about the current page and "view state" (for want of a better description) you're currently working with.
if it is only for visible use, I would use javascript with jQuery to quickly add a class for the 'current' link
$(document).ready(function() {
$('a.mylinks').each(function(i) {
if ($(this).attr('href') == document.URL) {
$(this).addClass('current');
}
});
});
<ul>
<li>link to current page</li>
<li>link to other page</li>
<li>link to another page</li>
</ul>

I'm implementing a project with Next.js and I've been trying to find out the best way I could achieve the following.
I have a page /home that calls an API with getServerSideProps and receives information that is printed to the page in multiple of this components:
function PlaylistItem({playlistName,id,description,background} : { playlistName : string, id : string, description : string, background : string}) {
return (
<a className='flex-col justify-center flex text-center items-center cursor-pointer mb-6' href='/difficulty'>
<div className=' w-[100px] h-[100px] rounded-full' style={{backgroundImage: `url(${background})`,backgroundPosition:"center",backgroundSize:"cover"}}></div>
<p className='mt-2'>{playlistName}</p>
</a>
)
}
export default PlaylistItem
Depending on which of those components the user clicks, I want to pass the props (id, playlistName, etc) to the next page stated in the anchor tag.
I saw that I could achieve that with dynamic routes and passing the values as queries, but is it really the best way I could to this?
The ideal way to accomplish this is by using dynamic routes, also utilise cookies to save and get into the next page if you don't require share url capability for next page.
dynamic routes the only one way to achieve this
I am using an application (a blog) written using the CodeIgniter framework and would like to search my blog from my browsers location bar by adding a string to the end of my blogs url like this:
http://mysite.com/blog/index.php/search...
As you can see in the example above I am not really sure how to format the rest of the url after the search part so I am hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction.
This is what the form looks like for the search box if that helps at all.
form class="searchform" action="http://mysite.com/blog/index.php/search" method="post">
<input id="searchtext" class="search_input" type="text" value="" name="searchtext">
<input type="submit" value="Search" name="Search">
</form>
Thx,
Mark
Since your form is posting to http://mysite.com/blog/index.php/search, I'm assuming this 'search' controller's default function is the one your are attempting to submit your data to. I think that the easiest way to do this would be to just grab the post data inside of the controller method you're posting to. Example:
function search()
{
$search_params = $this->input->post('search_text');
}
Then you would have whatever the user input stored as $search_params, and you can take actions from there. Am I misunderstanding what you're asking?
It seems like you're kind of discussing two different approaches. If you wanted to make a request to
mysite.com/blog/index.php/search&q=what_I_am_looking_for
This is going to call the search controllers default method (which is index by default). If you wanted to use the URL to pass parameters like that you would go to your function in the search controller and do:
print_r($this->input->get('q'));
This will print out "what_am_I_looking_for".
An easier approach in my opinion would be to:
1. Create a view called "search_view" with the HTML content you pasted above, and have the form "action" http://www.mysite.com/blog/index.php/test/search
Create a controller called "Test" that looks like the following:
class Test extends CI_Controller {
function search()
{
$search = $this->input->post('searchtext');
print_r($search);
}
public function display_search()
{
$this->load->view('search_view');
}
}
Visit http://www.mysite.com/blog/index.php/test/display_search in your browser. This should present you with the form you placed in search_view.php. Once the form is submitted, you should be sent to the search function and print out the variable $search, which will have whatever text you submitted on that form.
If this isn't what you were looking for then I am afraid I do not understand your question.
I have a page that lists content that are contained in a div with a class ad-container. in that container there is a hidden div with the class ad-contact. on the hover of the ad class i want to animate the display of ad-info. since there are multiple ads on a paticular page, i want only the ad-info of the currently hovered ad-container to slide in. my problem is that since there are more than 10 ads a page when you hover over any of the ads, all of the ads-contact divs slideDown and not the one you are hovering over.
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.ad-container').hover(
function(){
$(".ad-contact").slideDown(1000);
},
function(){
$(".ad-contact").slideUp(1000);
});
});
i think, (this) is used here but im not sure. and this would really shed the light for me.
<div class="ad-container">
<div class="ad-title">title<span class="ad-title-img">(pic)</span></div>
<div class="ad-description">texttext</div>
<div class="ad-contact" style="display:none">contact poster</div>
<div class="ad-sellerinfo" style="display:none">* Verified ***-****<br />
Paid Member</div>
</div>
The jQuery constructor accepts a 2nd parameter which can be used to override the context of the selection. Something like this should work:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.ad-container').hover(
function(){
$(".ad-contact", this).slideDown(1000);
},
function(){
$(".ad-contact", this).slideUp(1000);
});
});
Also, worth mentioning, $(".ad-contact", this) is internally converted into: $(this).find(".ad-contact") so you can use this one instead, it might be slightly faster.
You could use the .children() selector:
$(this).children(".ad-contact").slideDown(1000);
This way you will only act on the class ad-contact if its a child of the object in context (which is the object currently being hovered)
See a working demo here
You should use event to handle this,
First you need like
ad-container.hover(function(event){
event.target.children();
})
and then this.show().delay(1000).hide();
the code sample provide may not work when copy paste you have to write your own code in editor.
I am rather new to MVC applications, and one thing I am trying to accomplish is enabling or disabling stylesheets based on a Session value.
I have stylesheets referenced in my Site.Master page in this manner:
<%=Html.Stylesheet("~/styles/main.css", "string")%>
<%=Html.Stylesheet("~/styles/additions.css", "string")%>
Right now, for testing, I have been putting an if statement around the Html.Stylesheet tags saying:
<% if (Session["cssRule"] = "enableCss") { %>
<%=Html.Stylesheet("~/styles/main.css", "screen")%>
<%=Html.Stylesheet("~/styles/additions.css", "screen")%>
<%} %>
So if the 'cssRule' Session value is null, no CSS loads. Currently this is working fine, but it is not exactly what I am looking for. Right now I set the Session value in the Controller when the user logs in, but ultimately I need to set the value of the Session variable depending on if a user clicks the enable or disable button. Since I have been primarily using webforms for the past year and a half, I just want to drop a hyperlink and set an event for it, but alas, this is the future of MVC so I need to figure out how I can do something like this..
So my real question is how can I set the Session of the "cssRule" value by clicking a link using MVC?
I'll assume you want to use a standard link (not ajax) and that your main view is Index
Just add a method in your controller (pseudocode)
public ActionResult ToggleCSS()
{
if (Session["cssRule"] != null && Session["cssRule"] == "enableCSS")
{
Session["cssRule"] = "disableCSS";
}
else
{
Session["cssRule"] = "enableCSS";
}
return View("Index");
}
Then in your view, use
<%= Html.ActionLink("ToggleCSS", "ControllerName") %>
You can use lots of fancy different methods to obtain the same result; use ajax and relaod the page, or not, or redirect to a page listing css files to apply, etc... but this one should work :)
Is it possible to create Ajax.ActionLink which has instead of text, the whole DIV?
I'd like to map div on Ajax.ActionLink
I don't think that this will work using the standard MVC Ajax scripts. I believe that the MVC javascript is created to use an <a> element by default. On a different note, embedding a div tag within an <a> is not valid XHTML. What are you trying to achieve?
Using Jquery is probably the easiet way you want to go. As an example:
<div onclick="SomeAjaxFunction()">some div content</div>
function SomeAjaxFunction()
{
$.get('<%= Url.Action("SomeAction", "InSomeController") %>', function(data) {
$('.result').html(data); // assuming a partial view
alert('Load was performed.');
});
}
However, if you are dead set on using MS Ajax, to work with divs, you need to possibly look at the Sys.Mvc.MvcHelpers._asyncRequest function and do some of your own re-wrapping to make it usable. I have not tried or tested this, so use at your own risk. (Stick with the Jquery, there is far better help and support available.)
