I'm working with FusionCharts (specifically a column chart). The chart is created from a rest endpoint that outputs chart xml. The endpoint also encodes xml-urls into the chart for drill-down. I want to capture these urls in order to change the contents of the surrounding form (to make it appear the parameters chosen generated that chart).
The problem I'm running into is that the BeforeLinkedItemOpen and LinkedItemOpened events do not contain the url the chart is pulling its xml from.
The LinkedChartInvoked event does contain this information - its just only called navigating the first level of the drill-down.
I have five levels of drill-down, so that won't work. Anyone know of a way to get the information I'm looking for?
I never did find an answer for this. It appears that FusionCharts simply does not report this information and I could not do what I was trying to do.

I am sampling data twice a day and sending it via IFTTT to Google Sheets. All working well but ideally I would like the date format on the chart to be different to that in the sheet and I can't see an obvious way to do that other than to create another column in the sheet. See attached, is it possible to have the date without the time on the chart?
Thanks!
This is possible using Google Charts, or the Charts Service of Apps Script.
The documentation on Google Visualizations has many examples, its not straight forward at first, but with a couple of examples you'll get the hang of it and tailor your chart to your desired output.
In your case, the hint is to modify the horizontal axis format.
See this example to start with: https://developers.google.com/chart/interactive/docs/datesandtimes#formatting-axis,-gridline,-and-tick-labels
I've been using import functions a lot in my sports modeling, but I've never been able to figure out how to get past the issue of pulling information that is dynamically imported from another source.
For example, i'm trying to use importxml to pull the money line values in this link here: https://www.sportsbookreview.com/betting-odds/nfl-football/money-line/
I can get the information in the left columns up until "PINNACLE", and after research i now understand I can't get the rest of the information because it's not static on the page and I need to go to the source... how do I find the source of this information so I can pull it from there?
I tried inspecting the page, clicking on "network", clicking on "XHR", refreshing the page and previewing the results, but nothing seemed to match.
Am I looking in the wrong place?
The page uses websockets to download the data, so I don't think you could simulate it in Google spreadsheets using formulas (maybe it could be possible in a script). However in this particular case there is a 'classic view' variant of the page which includes all the data in its source:

I'm using the Charts library (Charts) and I want to display a message on the chart if there's no data to display - something like this:
I've read the documentation, searched the code base, and searched the issues on Github and the only thing I could find is an old issue that suggests ChartViewBase has a property called noDataTextDescription. As far as I can tell, that's not in the Charts 3.1.1 code.
There is a chartDescription property, but that only shows a description in the bottom right corner of the chart. Is this intended to be used for a message like 'There's no data to display`?
In newer version after 3.X many properties name updated and as per your requirement for No Data Text you can use below property for the same.
lineChartView.noDataText = "<Your custom Text>"
Hope this will help to show Message while there is no data.
Let's say I have a visualization that is displaying production line output over time. There are 6 production lines and I only want to display one production line on the visualization at a time. I can add a Production Line filter to accommodate this.
I want to create a dashboard view for each production line. So I want to create 6 dashboard views each with the same visualization filtered for a different value. However, I do not know how to do this without creating a copy of the visualization and dictating the exact Production Line filter.
Reasons for doing this:
I want to publish the specific dashboards and be able to embed the view into a SharePoint site (that is Production Line specific) and not require the user to filter the view each time
If I make a change to visualization, I want it to be transferred to all dashboard views for all Production Lines and do not want to make the same change to 6 visualizations.
Is this possible?
You can't do it with a dashboard. Try doing it with stories though. Create one story point for each production line. You can drop a single copy of your viz onto multiple story points, each with filters independent of each other, and any changes to the worksheet will be reflected in all six story points.
Yes it is possible. You could use a story as Sam M says, with 6 views of your dashboard each with a different filter setting,
Another choice that works in the embedded viz use case is to create a single dashboard, and apply a filter to all the worksheets on that dashboard. When using Tableau Server, you can supply the filter value as a query parameter in the URL (see the documentation)
After you test it out and are happy with the result, you can remove the filter control from the dashboard so it is no longer visible. You can still control the filter setting via the URL (or via the JavaScript API)
This allows you to adjust the viz that users see in your embedded view without making them manually select the filter setting, and also without creating six nearly identical dashboards.
I would like to use a javascript function link such as 'link:j-myJS-data' for drill down type charts. I have everything working great to drill down but cannot figure out how to incorporate the overlayButton through the configureLink when drilling down. At present, I can drill down but cannot go back. Can anyone provide a basic example of how I may go about this? Is it even possible?
I thought I could add my own "Back" button to hande this as one option. I do not want to use a jsonURL as there is a lot of data and many paramertes need to be passed resutling in a long links and a lot of extra data in the JSON.
Thanks in advance.
There are multiple options available to create a drill-down chart with FusionCharts XT. Here is a table which explains all of them, with each one's syntax.
The method that you've used is the JavaScript function link. Using this one, you won't get an overlay button to go back to the parent chart.
The overlay button is available only when a LinkedChart is created.
So there are 2 ways that you could go about:
You could change all your charts to use the LinkedCharts technique. Here is a blog post detailing how LinkedCharts can be created using PHP + MySQL. If you aren't using PHP, the general idea shown still applies to any server-side environment.
You could create a separate button sitting near the chart, and this button would re-create the parent chart for you.
The button (which we call "overlay-button") can be made automatically visible using LinkedCharts alone.
However the overlay-button can be internally invoked using the charts' private API. Since these APIs are private, it may change between implementations and may not work as desired under certain circumstances. I would not recommend you to use this. If you are still interested in knowing more on this API, put in a comment and I will update this post.
