I am attempting to install PyDev in Eclipse for Mac (OSX version 10.8.3). After installing PyDev I go to preferences to configure it for use, and it does not appear on the list. If I go back to help > install new software and click "What is already installed?" PyDev does not appear on the list. I have attempted reinstalling PyDev (many times), restarting Eclipse, restarting my Mac, and have searched for any problems similar to mine, but have come up with nothing. I have Python 3.3 installed, and also Python 2.6 (installed 2.6 when a guide told me 2.6 is the build used by the project).

I think I just solved the problem.
I tried to install PyDev, got a long way through to a dialog with a progress bar that seemed to be about the last step.
A dialog box asking me to approve a certificate popped up behind the progress-bar dialog, when it was about half-way along. I clicked OK and both dialogs immediately disappeared.
PyDev was not installed.
I did it again, but this time looked at the certificate dialog. You have to tick the certificate, and then click OK. Installation continued.
Now I have PyDev.

I just installed a new version of eclipse IDE(2020-12) and tried to install the plugins I had on the older version but had no success.
As shown in the picture, when I find the plugin in the Eclipse marketplace and click install, "install pending" shows up and nothing happens. I neither get any pop-ups that ask me to proceed with the installation nor see any progress at the bottom right of the eclipse window. For the older version(2019-06), I can install without any changes in preferences or some other sort of settings. I wonder what could cause this issue?

From Eclipse menu open: Help->Install New Software and paste the link.
I think the problem is with Editbox but I can't figure out what exactly is wrong (I'm the author of the plugin).
I accidentally installed CodeMix malware when installing Anguar IDE plugin to my Eclipse4.6. Now everytime I open a JS file it shows CodeMix registration window and I am unable to open JS files if I don't provide my email account. I tried 3 times of unstalling CodeMix and then restarting Eclipse, but failed 3 times. Every time Eclipse says successfully uninstalled. However The virus/malware CodeMix is still there asking for my email account. It is a Windows10.
Question 1: How can I completely remove CodeMix?
Question 2: Is it a crime to develop something like CodeMix in US?
The best way to uninstall software installed from the Eclipse Marketplace is by using the Marketplace client itself. Simply go to Help > Eclipse Marketplace... entry, and then the Installed tab where you can click Uninstall.
Uninstalling software in Eclipse can be difficult if you try to do it from the Help > Installation Details approach as you either need to roll back all changes you've made by using a Revert to a previous point of the installation or find all plugins that you installed from the marketplace. If you miss some plugins when doing the manual approach, Eclipse won't fully remove it.
In this case, CodeMix is not actually "reinstalling" itself as your question reads like. It was just never removed by Eclipse itself.
The installation of mistakenly installed plug-ins can be undone as follows:
In Help > About Eclipse IDE hit the Installation Details button
In the Installation Details dialog, in the tab Installation History select the installation point before the mistaken installation and hit the Revert button
Please note that this does not delete files created by the plug-in itself. As far as I know, this plug-in creates a subdirectory in the user's home directory occupying a lot of disk space.
To the second question: As far as I know, not the development but the distribution can be illegal in the US, for example when spying without the user's consent or when licenses (including open source licenses) are violated.
There are about 6~7 CodeMix plugins including Angular, CodeMix Essentials and 3 more. I had to search by 'mix' and then remove everything in the search results. It is gone now.
As a work around I just went and removed everything it was trying to be the preferred editor for (CodeMix/Editors/Preferred Editors). It seems to have made it less of a problem.
I don't know if this applies to you, but in my installation Groovy Development Tools was interfering with adding and removing plugins. After removing that, I have been able to add and remove other things without difficulty.

I installed CodeMix when I was looking for an editor for Go files. They definitely have an aggressive model when it comes to trying to monetize Eclipse plugins. I think it is a shame that they went so overboard on the marketing, because the product itself shows a lot of work, and I would have been willing to pay for something less intrusive.
That said, they now have a pretty good uninstaller built into the product. Just go to (in the Eclipse menu) Help > CodeMix > Uninstall CodeMix. This seems to have cleared it all out for me.
I recently updated my ports on my FreeBSD 9.0 release machine and I think eclipse was upgraded due to a port upstream forced Eclipse to be rebuilt. Now Pydev is gone. I tried uninstalling then reinstalling Eclipse, then installing Pydev using pydev.org/updates inside Eclipse. It appears to install ok but I can't create a Pydev project or use the Pydev view. I tried removing my ~/.eclipse folder to force the creation of a new one, and reinstalling Eclipse and Pydev to no avail. What am I doing wrong? I'm running Eclipse Indigo version 3.7.1 build id: R3_7_1
This question was most similar to mine, but the solution didn't work for me. I also tried pointing my install site as: http://update-production-pydev.s3.amazonaws.com/pydev/updates/site.xml per another question on StackOverflow, to no avail.
After some more testing I finally got the newest FreeBSD port to work. I had to launch and install the plugins as root. It didn't work another time I ran it but, this great troubleshooting document helped out. I methodically went through each step one by one, and the logs indicated there was an error on my /usr/local/lib file it was trying to unzip. My user doesn't have write access to that directory but root does. I don't know why it didn't work the last time I ran it as root, perhaps I didn't install the plug-in as root. It works now, so I'm happy. Thanks Fabio, for your input.
I'm not sure how FreeBSD packages things, so, maybe an easy way out would be getting Eclipse from Eclipse.org and installing PyDev on that fresh install (or if you're also doing web stuff, I'd suggest grabbing Aptana Studio 3, which comes with PyDev preinstalled, so, you don't have to worry about configuring it).

I'm trying to uninstall Tasktop from my Eclipse IDE, but when I select it the uninstall button keeps being disabled (maybe because of some dependent plugin I can't find)
Has anyone had a similar experience? I could use some pointers on how to get this plugin uninstalled.
I had other problem with the task top plugin. I followed the conventional way to uninstall the plugin. Help -> About Eclipse -> Installed Software. The plugin was removed from the list of installed software, but still existed as a plugin, Even after resets.
As a last option I manually removed all com.tasktop.* jars and directories from the eclipse\plugin directory. That seems to do the work without any side effect damage for now.
Of course you will have to close eclipse prior to the above action.
Where are you going for the uninstall? If you go to Help -> About Eclipse -> Installed Software, you should be able to uninstall any top-level feature there. Is this not your experience?
i tried fedora12 yesterday, but i find eclipse doesn't work. at first i thought this problem is related to SELinux, but after i turn off selinux, i still can't
create a project, i press the "next" or "finish" button, there is no response. well the "cancel" button works. there is no error popup, or error logs.
i tried eclipse -debug -console; but there is no log output when i click the button. it is so weird, is this happened to anyone before?

This is a bug due to a change introduced in GTK 2.18, see Bug 291257. The current workaround is to export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=true before to run Eclipse. I actually use the following startup script:

export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=true

I can't install plugins from update sites, either.
In a blank eclipse install, adding a new update site (es: jboss tools) using the keyboard works; also, it's possible to select a release to install from the available software list.
The new plugin gets installed, but won't appear in perspectives (es: jboss devel) after restart.
After that, adding new update sites and trying to install their releases won't work, the available software list remains empty.
Using Fedora 12 Eclipse 3.5..
By the way, "Fedora Eclipse" rpm is screwed at the moment, it won't install a single file

There seems to be an incompatability with gtk/gdk shipped with F12. You can tell eclipse to use the native GDK and it should correct these problems:
GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 ./eclipse
You can also add -DGDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 to your eclipse.ini file. That should help if you switch workspaces.
