Issue: whenever I try to commit any file that has conflict(showing red), eclipse crashes. I am not able to do any SVN related operation using subclipse. I have to restart eclipse every time. Not sure why this is happening. Let me know if somebody has come across the same issue.
I am using Subclipse 1.8.6. with following eclipse version info.
Eclipse SDK
Version: 4.2.0
Build id: I20120608-1400

Can you try to update to the latest version of subclipse ?
Yes. It works now. I had to reinstall my eclipse. and updated subclipse to 1.10.x. Thanks for your help.

I am beside myself with this error and can't make any progress until I get past this issue.
I have the latest STS (Spring Tool Source) 3.7.1 specifically for Eclipse Mars 4.5.1. I deleted all my old versions of STS, and deleted my old .eclipse file as well since I wanted this to be a fresh install. I also went into my c:\Users\Tom Holmes\AppData folders and removed all traces of 'Spring Tool Suite'.
I installed the new latest STS 3.7.1 for Eclipse (Mars) 4.5.1 and pulled down the latest Subclipse for the Eclipse (Mars) 4.5.1. I opened to my old work space which was fine before, and now whenever I try to use STS to run a maven build I get the error listed below.
Error: Could not find or load main class Holmes.sts-3.7.1.RELEASE.configuration.org.eclipse.osgi.25.0..cp.;.C:.Users.Tom
I have tried everything I can think of to re-loading the projects into a new workspace, to deleting the projects and re-downloading them.
Ultimately I find in the workspace .metadata plugins directory under m2e.eclipse.core there are no lifecycle mappings? Does that matter?
How can I re-create this, or is this more of a maven/sts problem?
So, here is what I found ... Since STS 3.7.1, specifically for Eclipse (Mars) 4.5.1 was the issue ... I tried several other versions of STS.
I tried STS 3.7.0 for Eclipse (Mars) 4.5.1 which does work. When I installed this, I immediately got notified that there was an update ready. The update was specifically for the m2e Maven-Eclipse Integration.
I also tried 3.7.0 for Eclipse (Juno?) 4.2.2 which also does work, and again this was looking for an update, and again was for m2e Maven-Eclipse Integration.
My feeling is that, specifically STS 3.7.1 for Eclipse (Mars) 4.5.1 was broken as far as the m2e plugin. Since the m2e changes are embedded in this latest version, something must not have been right. The other versions that I downloaded and installed all worked fine. For any of these versions, there was this upgrade for the m2e (Maven-Eclipse) integration plugin ... but in this case, the update worked.
You know, I like STS, I think it works great. After updating several times, like anything else, it can get "jinky" and then I decide that maybe I should just download a new fresh copy of the tool which usually works great.
Clearly pulling this update into the latest version just didn't mesh well. But now I am up and running, and hopefully SpringSource will fix this issue.
I really hope this helps someone else out.
I would recommend installing a regular Eclipse distribution and then installing STS as a plugin. There should be plenty of instructions online that explain how to do it. I've been using this approach for years and never had any problems.
I tried to uninstall Subversive within my Eclipse IDE as I updated Subversive yesterday after an Eclipse update was installed that only updated Subversive.
The update whacked all my function keys within Eclipse and therefore the reason to try and uninstall it. Apparently I've done something wrong and it did not uninstall it completely. Here is the info I'm reading when trying to uninstall:
Subversive SVN Team Provider" cannot be fully uninstalled because other installed software requires it. The parts that are not required will be uninstalled.
I still click the uninstall button but it never uninstalls.
I've lost connection to the repository and I've been Googling for a way to reinstall Subversive but cannot find anything to accomplish that.
Any suggestions/direction would be greatly appreciated.

For a long time my subversion client was working just fine, and I used it for a while out of sts, but one day sts crashed and I rolled back to eclipse for a while and during that time I used subclipse to update a project of mine. Now STS is up and running again, but for some reason now if I ever try to update or commit from sts I get the following error:
The path '{pathname}' appears to be part of a Subversion 1.7 or greater
working copy. Please upgrade your Subversion client to use this
working copy.
There is not actually an available update for subclipse and sts still recognizes the most recently installed subclipse from the dashboard. Any ideas on how to fix this one?
You should be able to install Subclipse 1.8.x in STS. The update site URL is:
http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.8.x
That release includes Subversion 1.7 client so you should be all set once you do this.
Subclipse the JavaHL library to do SVN connections. On Windows, if you have the most recent Subclipse it looks like you should automatically have that installed, but if not they have a variety of installation instructions (alas system dependent).
even though there was no error when installing Subclipse in Eclipse. I won't see the SVN perspective at all?
I have tried with "Eclipse Classic 3.5.1" and with "Eclipse for PHP Developers".
After downloading and unzipping the packages I used Eclipse's "Install Software" mechanism to install Subclipse 1.6.x. I followed the steps described here: http://www3.math.tu-berlin.de/jreality/mediawiki/index.php/Subclipse_installation_in_eclipse_galileo.
But after Eclipse re-starts I don't get any SVN Repository perspective? I have tried to un-install/re-install all the software components many times now. Finally after 3 hours of trying I am giving up. Does anyone have any hint what I am missing?

I had the same problem. I use Windows 7 64 bits OS. I clean read-only flag of eclipse folder in C:\Program Files (x86) and give full access right to all users on my PC. I reinstalled it from update site and it works.

EDIT For anyone keeping track of this, it looks like Eclipse Helios SR1 may have fixed the issue. I haven't tested it myself yet, but by the sounds of the discussion at https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=322929 it should now be working.
I just had this same issue with Ubuntu. It turned out to be permissions. Once I gave write permissions to everywhere in my eclipse installation and then reinstalled subclipse, its views and so forth appeared, just like magic.
I don't know what you are looking for. But after installing the Subclipse plugin, you should have a new entry in the File | New | Project dialog. Something along the lines of "Checkout project from SVN"
Then when you hit continue, you can enter your SVN repository details, check the branch you are interested in, etc. After checking out a project, you can right click on it and go to the "Team" submenu to get the features provided by Subclipse like check in code, diff, merge, etc.
I ran into the exact same problem too. I installed both Subclipse and GWT/GAE plugins and couldn't find any evidence of them after installation.
I'm on Windows 7 and had installed Eclipse 3.5 SR2 into C:\Program Files (x86)\eclipse-3.5. I also put my workspace in C:\Program Files (x86)\eclipse-3.5\workspace. When I was checking things I noticed there was a lock icon on the C:\Program Files (x86)\eclipse-3.5\workspace.
I reinstalled Eclipse to C:\dev\eclipse and the workspace to C:\dev\eclipse\workspace. After that the installation of the plugins went without a hitch and I could see the SVN Repository Exploring perspective (no idea why some of the other posters claim this perspective doesn't exist). I suspect it was some sort of permissions problem on the directories.
Another way to check and see if the whole thing was installed correctly is to go to the SVN Repositories view. Go to Window -> Show View -> Other, and then search for SVN. If you see a bunch of SVN views like "Repositories," Subclipse is installed.
I had this problem due to some kind of incompatibility between Subclipse and Android ADT plugins. One answer suggested yoxos which gives you all your eclipse plugins from one central repository.
Had the same problem. I work on Linux, and when I installed eclipse in /usr/local/eclipse, Subclipse did not show up. The solution was to install Eclipse locally, e.g. in /home/user/eclipse. Now Subclipse (and other plugins too) worked!
Edit: guess it could be the same on Windows.
I think this is due to some incompatibilities between the packages of subclipse and the gwt 2.x plugin and android... as this started happen to me after I upgrade to v 2.0 of gwt back in the day.
The same issue repeats both on Mac and Windows... and it seems no fix has been released.
Now the only way I've found to move on with my work is to remove subclipse and install the latest subversive plugin instead.

It means the installation did not complete successfully.
Could you check your logs (Windows / Show Views / Error logs) to see what gone wrong?
It seams the problem is related to a (fedora?)eclipse bug, and issues with permissions to the plugin folder.
I solved it by uninstalling hgeclipse, starting eclipse as root, installing hgeclipse, and then restarting as my normal user again.
