I'm having a problem with my navigation bar. The issue is that I'm trying to overwride the LeftBarButtonItem that the NavigationBar has from the super viewController like this:
"Super ViewController"
UIImageView *logoApp = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImageimageNamed:#"logo.png"]];
[logoApp setFrame:CGRectMake(5, 5, 55, 30)];
UIBarButtonItem *containingLogoApp = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:logoApp];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = containingLogoApp;
Now I'm trying to overwrite it in a different viewControllerB like this:
UIImageView *backImg = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImageimageNamed:#"back.png"]];
[logoApp setFrame:CGRectMake(5, 5, 17, 22)];
UIBarButtonItem *containingBackButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc]initWithCustomView:backImg];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = containingBackButton;
It's the same code, and it works only the first time the app runs. If I run it a second time, it doesn't show the image assigned in ViewControllerB anymore. This happens with every image that I have in my project, it only works the first time I run the app on the simulator, after that first run... it's like nothing happens at all.
How can I overwrite the leftBarButtonItem?
UIButton *backButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[backButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"back.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[backButton addTarget:self action:#selector(backAction) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[backButton setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 50, 30)];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:backButton];
try this code
UIBarButtonItem *backButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc]initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"dynamic_blue_left.png"] style:UIBarButtonItemStyleBordered target:self action:#selector(rightSwipeClicked:)];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = backButton;
It's working fine.. may be usefull for you

I want to remove background of a UIViewController backbutton.
How can I do that?
I tried following code
backButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"back.png"] landscapeImagePhone:nil style:UIBarButtonSystemItemCancel target:self action:nil];
[backButton setBackgroundImage:nil forState:UIControlStateNormal barMetrics:UIBarMetricsDefault];
self.navigationItem.backBarButtonItem = backButton;
But it didn't work!
Dont try to modify UINavigationBar's backbutton image. That's not possible because that comes by default.
Rather put another customize UIButton as UINavigationBar item and then you can customize that as per your needs.
UIButton *btnItem = [[UIButton alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 30, 30)];
[btnItem setTitle:#"title" forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[btnItem addTarget:self action:#selector(btnItem_click:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
self.topItem.leftBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc]initWithCustomView:btnItem];
UINavigation.backBarButtonItem is not used to set the back button of current view controller, it is used to set back button of controller pushed from current view controller.
Say now ViewController1 is showing in UINavigationController, you set backBarButton of ViewController1. The back button won't change, but then you push ViewController2, you'll see the back button of ViewController2 is what you set for ViewController1.
To set back button of ViewController1, either you set it in the ViewController pushing ViewController1, or you user self.navigationItem.leftBarbuttonItem = YourButton, the latter way you need to add event listener on YourButton
This code worked for me
UIImage *backButtonImage = [UIImage imageNamed:#"back.png"];
UIButton *backButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[backButton addTarget:self action:#selector(backButtonPressed) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[backButton setBackgroundImage:backButtonImage forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[backButton setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 30, 30)];
UIBarButtonItem *backBarButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:backButton];
[backBarButton setAction:#selector(backButtonPressed)];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = backBarButton;
-(void)backButtonPressed{
[self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated:YES];
}
I am setting Back and next Button as Navigation Bar item left button and right button.which have code below as
// Back Button
UIBarButtonItem *aBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:aButton];
[aButton addTarget:self action:#selector(navigatehome)forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = aBarButtonItem;
//Next Button
aBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:aButton];
[aButton addTarget:self action:#selector(navigatenext)forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[self.navigationItem setRightBarButtonItem:aBarButtonItem]
And Problem when animated:YES in statement
CSA_info *h1=[[CSA_info alloc]init];
[self.navigationController pushViewController:h1 animated:YES];
It shows as below image
If uses animated:No then showed as below
I am adding a image in as subview in navigation Bar so it hides the buttons.
UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:#"title bar.png"];
UIImageView *imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image];
imageView.frame = CGRectMake(-5, 0, 330, 44);
[self.navigationController.navigationBar insertSubview:imageView atIndex:2];
I required to add that image in navigation.
Why it so, Any Help ?
you need to put title bar image in secondViewcontroller like bellow in ViewDidLoad
UIImage* imageback = [UIImage imageNamed:#"Back_Button.png"];
CGRect frameimgback = CGRectMake(0, 0, 50, 30);
backButton = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:frameimgback];
[backButton setBackgroundImage:imageback forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[backButton addTarget:self action:#selector(Back)
forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:#"titileBar.png"];
[self.navigationController.navigationBar setBackgroundImage:image forBarMetrics:UIBarMetricsDefault];
UIBarButtonItem *btn = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc]initWithCustomView:backButton];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = btn;
If I understood you problem properly then following solution should work,
You need to add the code in viewDidLoad method of the view controller. Please refer the below code
UIButton *backButton = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:kButtonFrame];
[backButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:kBackButtonImage] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[backButton addTarget:self action:#selector(navigatehome)forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
UIBarButtonItem *aBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:backButton];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = aBarButtonItem;
UIButton *nextButton = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:kButtonFrame];
[nextButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:kNextButtonImage] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[nextButton addTarget:self action:#selector(navigatenext)forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
UIBarButtonItem *aBarButtonItemRight = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:nextButton];
[self.navigationItem setRightBarButtonItem:aBarButtonItemRight];
This should work fine even you animated while pushing the view controller.
i have UITableView based application, and i can't set backBarButtonItem properly.
Back button is button, which appears when i select any item, call second view with method didSelectRowAtIndexPath. When i try to set it like this:
UIButton *back1=[UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[back1 setFrame:CGRectMake(10.0, 2.0, 45.0, 40.0)];
[back1 addTarget:nil action:NULL forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[back1 setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"back_button.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
UIBarButtonItem *back = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc]initWithCustomView:back1];
self.navigationItem.backBarButtonItem = back;
There is just back button with default style and somehow with title of my TableView controller window.
When i set it like this:
UIBarButtonItem *backButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc]
initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"back_button.png"]
style:UIBarButtonItemStyleBordered
target:nil
action:nil];
self.navigationItem.backBarButtonItem = backButton;
There is an image, but, it look like "inserted" in default back button, doesn't look nice at all.
Please help me.. i tried many ways to solve this, but, in many cases there is just default Back button with title "Products" (there is title which appears on top of navigation bar in my UITableView). Any help would be appreciated!
UIImage *buttonImage = [UIImage imageNamed:#"back_button.png"];
UIButton *backButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[backButton setBackgroundImage:buttonImage forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[backButton setTitle:#"Back" forState:UIControlStateNormal];
backButton.font = [UIFont boldSystemFontOfSize:12];
backButton.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, buttonImage.size.width, buttonImage.size.height);
[backButton addTarget:self action:#selector(showMeter)
forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc]
initWithCustomView:backButton];
//Create resizable images
UIImage *myButton = [[UIImage imageNamed:#"yourButton"]
resizableImageWithCapInsets:UIEdgeInsetsMake(0, 5, 0, 5)];
//Set the background image for *all* UIBackBarButtons
[[UIBarButtonItem appearance] setBackgroundImage:myButton forState:UIControlStateNormal
barMetrics:UIBarMetricsDefault];
You should assign it to self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem.
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = backButton;
In IB I can select a UIBarButtonItem, set it to Plain, Custom and apply an Image and it looks fine in a UIToolbar or UINavigationBar.
When I try to do this in code, I get a border:
backButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"arrowBack"]
style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain
target:self
action:#selector(backButtonClicked:)];
How can I get a UIBarButtonItem without a border? I want it to be Plain and Custom
This works for me (example for the leftButton):
UIButton *bt=[UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[bt setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 15, 30)];
[bt setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"backBT"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[bt addTarget:self action:#selector(popViewController:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
UIBarButtonItem *leftButton=[[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:bt];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem=leftButton;
Here is my code. This is adding image but images are being appeared in navigation bar.
UIToolbar* toolbartop = [[UIToolbar alloc]
initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 100, 45)];
[toolbar setBarStyle: UIBarStyleBlackOpaque];
// create an array for the buttons
NSMutableArray* buttonstop = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithCapacity:5];
UIBarButtonItem *remainderButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc]
initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"home.png"]
style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain
target:self
action:#selector(LoadOption:)];
[buttonstop addObject:remainderButton];
[remainderButton release];
UIBarButtonItem *faveButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"home.png"]
style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain
target:self
action:#selector(homeAction)];
[buttonstop addObject:faveButton];
[faveButton release];
// put the buttons in the toolbar and release them
[toolbartop setItems:buttonstop animated:NO];
[buttonstop release];
// place the toolbar into the navigation bar
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:toolbartop];
But this code is showing image in navigation right bar.
UIBarButtonItem *settingButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"home.png"]
style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain
target:self
action:#selector(homeAction)];
self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = settingButton;
Why left navigation bar button is not showing images?
[toolbartop release];
You can add the image to your left BarButtonItem as follows:
UIButton *button1 = [[UIButton alloc] init];
button1.frame=CGRectMake(0,0,105,30);
[button1 setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed: #"image1.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button1 addTarget:appDelegate action:#selector(Open_Link1) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
UIButton *button2 = [[UIButton alloc] init];
button2.frame=CGRectMake(105,0,105,30);
[button2 setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed: #"image2.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button2 addTarget:appDelegate action:#selector(Open_Link2) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
UIView *viewButtons = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 210, 30)];
[viewButtons addSubview:button1];
[viewButtons addSubview:button2];
[button1 release];
[button2 release];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc]initWithCustomView:viewButtons];
[viewButtons release];
Here please make sure that the methods "Open_Link1" and "Open_Link2" must exists in the code as follows:
-(void)Open_Link1
{
// Write your logic
}
-(void)Open_Link2
{
// Write your logic
}
Let me know if you want more help.
The left bar button item is automatically used by the framework for showing a "Back" button. You can't put anything here, at least not when your navigation bar is managed by a UINavigationController. For this to work you have to handle the UINavigationBar yourself.
Edit:
in your leftBarButtonItem, try putting a UISegmentedControl instead of a UIToolbar for toolbartop.
You are adding a button to toolbar but you aren't adding your toolbar to any view. Try to set the button directly using
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:buttonStop];
