I am trying to install Flash Builder 4.7 Plugin into Eclipse. I have downloaded Flash Builder Premium via Adobe's Creative Cloud. I have also installed Eclipse Indigo (recommended via Adobe). I am running this all on Mac OSX.
According to a tutorial I found I needed to go into the Utilities folder found in the Flash Builder install and run the Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 Plug-in Utility. It seemed to run fine. Afterwards you should be able to see "Flash Builder" in the help menu of Eclipse. However it is not there. You should also be able to set Flash Builder preferences under Window --> Preferences. Flash Builder is also not visible there.
I looked into the installation log and there was only one concerning message.
Move File: Destination: /Applications/eclipse/dropins/fb-4_7-plugin-encoded.link
Status: WARNING
Additional Notes: WARNING - There was a problem moving /Applications/eclipse/dropins/fb-4_7-plugin-encoded.link
I am unsure what this means and Adobe documentation is pretty sparse. However, it seems to be the only problem in the entire installation process. Any ideas or suggestions on what could be causing this error would be great.
EDIT: According the the tutorial there should also be this file "fb-4_7-plugin-encoded.link" created in the "dropins" folder of Eclipse. This file is created. However it is blank.
Here are notes I made trying the plug-in with Eclipse, both Indigo and Juno.
Flash Builder 4.7 works Eclipse Indigo or Juno, either 32-bit or 64-bit. You must use the correct source Flash Builder 4.7 when installing the plug-in – the 32-bit plug-in does not work with 64-bit Eclipse and vice-versa.
One major difference between Flash Builder 4.6 and 4.7 is the removal of Design mode for Flex .mxml files.
To install the plug-in, go to the Flash Builder 4.7 installation directory (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 for the 32-bit version or C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 for the 64-bit version). Run the Plug-in Utility in the utilities directory. The installer will prompt for an Eclipse installation directory.
Alternately, create the file dropins/fb-4_7-plugin-encoded.link with the following contents:
path=C:/Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Adobe Flash Builder 4.7
or
path=C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64 bit)
Adjust the path to the Flash Builder install directory.
Running the Plug-In Utility also creates an uninstall program to remove the plug-in from Eclipse. This is not created when using the link file to install the plug-in.
I have installed Eclipse 4.2.2 (Juno) 64-bit version running on Windows 8 Pro and successfully added ColdFusion Builder 3 (64-bit) to Eclipse (since adding ColdFusion Builder to Flash Builder Standalone no longer works). The Flash Builder plug-in Utility installs correctly and even provides the link file in drop-ins directory of Eclipse correctly. Yet, if it doesn't show any of the Flash Builder content in Eclipse, you will need to uninstall Flash Builder entirely from your computer and then reinstall. Then run the plug-in utility from the utilities directory and it should work.
So the steps would be:
Make sure any version of Flash Builder is completely uninstalled from the computer first!
Install Eclipse and make sure it is the same bit version as the Flash Builder and/or Coldfusion Builder (either 32-bit or 64-bit)
Install ColdFusion Builder and select as plug-in to existing Eclipse
Install Flash Builder
Run Plug-in Utility from Adobe Flash Builder install directory
Open Eclipse and set workspace. You can then add both ColdFusion and Flash perspectives

I have to say that while I love ColdFusion Builder, I hate setting it up. Every time I have to take 4 or 5 installs before I get it right. At the moment I am setting up CFBuilder 2016, 64 bit. I want to set it up as a plugin on this Eclipse setup: Eclipse IDE for JavaScript Web Developers.
I'm using the 64-bit version of both. I extract the Eclipse environment to my desktop. Then go install CFBuilder, specify the folder I extracted to, and install. When it completes and starts up, it runs, but none of the ColdFusion Builder add ins are available. CF is not available as a new project, CFMs aren't available as new files, etc.
Your link implies Eclipse Indigo (3.7). Though CFBuilder installation FAQ at https://helpx.adobe.com/coldfusion/installing-coldfusion-builder.html states Eclipse 3.4.2 or higher, its actual installer insists on 4.3.2/4.4/4.5 (Kepler/Luna/Mars) screenshot. As of Halloween 2016, it doesn't seem to install correctly in 4.6 (Neon) either.
I have recently installed Eclipse Luna and the gwt-eclipse plugin.
I have created Project with the default GWT Aplication generated by the wizard, which I have called "pru".
I can compile and run the Project correctly.
But if I try to use the Design View to modify the interface controls, opening the Pru.java file (with Open With/GWT Designer) I get an error.
It tries to parse the file and then throws an error:
Internal Error
encountered unexpected internal error.
This could be caused by a bug or by a misconfiguration issue, conflict, partial update, etc.
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: com.google.gwt.dev.cfg.ModuleDefLoader.loadFromClassPath(Lcom/google/gwt/core/ext/TreeLogger;Ljava/lang/String;Z)Lcom/google/gwt/dev/cfg/ModuleDef;
I am running in a Surface Pro 3 with Windows 8.1 x64
I have installed Eclipse Luna under c:\Program Files
I have installed Apache Ant 1.9.4 and Java JDK SE 1.8.0_25-b18 64 bits version (I have tried with 32 bit version too, and with jdk 1.7)
I have configuered the PATH, ANT_HOME and JAVA_HOME variables to point to the correct installed directories.
I have used the "install new software" option in eclipse to install the gwt plugins.
I have installed following packages from https://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/4.4:
Google Plugin for Eclipse
GWT Designer for GPE
SDKS (GWT SDK 2.6.0 and Google App Engine Java SDK 1.9.17)
Do you have any idea of what's going on?
Thank you for your help.
I am running the stand alone version of Flash builder. what I am wanting to do is to install an eclipse plugin into it. Is this possible or is it only possible if I install flash builder as an eclipse plugin?
Yes, you definitely can install eclipse plugins into Flash Builder 4.6. The download system works exactly like Eclipse Indigo (which I believe Builder is built upon). This means you can install new software and go to the various Marketplaces in order to get software to download. Everything works exactly as t would with a "regular" eclipse installation (including the annoying dependency messages, which you will tend to get more of because Builder is not a complete Eclipse implementation!).
It does work, though.
I installed the Adobe Flash Builder 4.5 which includes the eclipse plugin.
I want 2 use my existing eclipse, so I copied the contents of plugin and features folder to existing eclipse folder.
I see the Flex features in Eclipse, but trying to open the Flex Builder Path causes eclipse to crash. Error Message is :
"Please uninstall and reinstall the product
If this problem still occurs, please contact Adobe technical support for help, and mention the error code shown at the bottom of this screen.
Error : 1
http://www.adobe.com/support/ "
How do i resolve this?
Copying those folders manually is not the correct approach. Navigate to the "utilities" folder inside the Flash Builder 4.5 installation directory and find a file called "Adobe Flash Builder 4.5 Plug-in Utility.exe" (or similar if on Mac). Double-click that file and it will launch an installer. Simply select the folder where your Eclipse installation resides and you should be good to go.
There are two versions of the Flash Builder installer. Make sure that you downloaded the Plugin version; and not the stand alone version. The plugin version will ask you where you eclipse directory is located.
You can download from the Adobe web site.
You should not have to move any directories manually.
I need to choose a version of eclipse to install the Flash Builder 4 plugin on.
What versions of eclipse are most suitable for the plugin?
Are there any known problems with the latest version? (currently 3.6.1 I believe)
Are there any officially supported versions? / unsupported versions?
I use the latest Eclipse release (Helios 3.6.1) with the Flash Builder 4 plugin. I find Flash Builder 4 to be a little flaky in general, but nothing to stop me delivering my software.
I develop Flex on top of Java, which is why I want the latest version of Eclipse. I develop both Flex and Java in the same Eclipse workspace.
You can install the stand alone, which has eclipse in it.
I use this one and I just install all my plugins in the stand alone.
Hope that helps.
From the installation manual:
Install Flash Builder 4 Plug-in on
Windows: NOTE: Flash Builder 4 is
only supported on Eclipse 3.4 or
3.5. CAUTION: Do not install the plug-in version of Flash Builder 4
into a copy of Eclipse that is already
hosting Flex Builder 3 plug-in. If you
want to continue running Flex Builder
3 plug-in, download a new copy of
Eclipse and use that when installing
Flash Builder 4 plug-in, or choose
bundled Eclipse option in the
installer. In addition, be sure to use
separate Eclipse workspaces for each
installation.
