So , I've made an setup and after running it , it creates me a folder where my VSTO plugin is in . Then I need to run the VSTO file manually for my plugin to be loaded in outlook . I want that , after running the setup, when the user opens Outlook , the vsto installer to pop up . How can I make that?
In order for your user being prompted to install the Outlook Addin on (first) Application startup you can distribute the according registry key by means of a Group Policy.
The key and its values should look like this:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\YOUR_ADDIN_NAME]
#=""
"Manifest"="file:///C:\FULL\PATH\TO\YOUR_ADDIN_NAME.vsto"
"LoadBehavior"=dword:00000003
"FriendlyName"="YOUR_ADDIN_NAME"
"Description"="Your Addin description here."
However this can result in your users being prompted to re-install the Addin every time Outlook is started because the according registry key is not persisted due to security permissions.

I am in the process of updating our currently existing Chrome distribution so that when a user downloads a .pdf file, the file is opened automatically.
As a first step, I was able to prevent Chrome from opening the pdf in its internal pdf viewer and could do a registry entry by using AlwaysOpenPdfExternally. This way it was downloading the file immediately and not opening it in the Chrome viewer.
I'd like to use Adobe to view the file automatically after download.
Unfortunately I was not able to find a registry entry. Nor was I able to find a GPO entry to be changed for Chrome.
I had found the following PowerShell script to be started upon logon of the user. However, testing it did not give me the result I was looking for.
The given entry extensions_to_open was not existing even after starting the script.
The current version of Chrome used is 66.255.
I would be happy for any help.
Edit: I am able to get the file to be opened automatically by inserting the given line here:
Is there any way to programatically force "Always open files of this type" for a specific file type in Chrome?
however, I am unsure of how to distribute the line of code into every PC in my network.
Edit: Chrome offers Group Policy Templates which should be importet into the active directory of your Windows Server. Once imported into your GPO, Chrome offers the setting: "Always open Pdf files externally". Once you check this feature, file should not automatically open in the internal PDF viewer.
See second edit: import the latest group policy templates into the GPO (will be stored on the active directory). After that, go into the GPO policies for "Google Chrome" and check the feature "Always open PDF files externally".
i know that the default profile name when i installed websphere was Appsrv01, I want to create my own AppSrv02 but the location of my IBM Websphere was in C: and i dont have any write permission, i dont have any admin rights also..
using COMMAND-LINE, I want to make my profile folder to be writable, so that my newly created AppSrv02 will be list down in the profile names in my RAD.
Please help me. Thanks
So that's your problem. In order to have a usable profile in WAS, your user must have write permissions. See this link from WAS ND infocenter, it applies to WAS standalone too.
http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSAW57_8.5.5/com.ibm.websphere.installation.nd.doc/ae/tpro_manage_nonroot.html
If you cannot change the write permissions to this profile, you'll need to create your own. For this, you can either use WAS Profile Management Tool, WAS CLI or you can create your profile using the Configure profiles... link in the WAS server creation wizard you posted. I'd use the RAD way because RAD validates, within the IDE, the proper permissions that you need to create and use the profile within RAD.
First check whether you have admin rights or not if your using User/Guest profile, by creating any new folder in C drive where IBM WAS is installed.
If you have Admin rights, than right click on RAD run as administrator. It should work fine.
If Profile doesnt show up in drop down, Configure new profile and try checking that way.
If you dont have Admin rights better install RAD in any local drive other than C
Running Eclipse with Admin rights and removing the read-only tick for the AppServXX folder/WAS folder couldn't help me... cause I copied the WAS server from another PC :). So for those of you who want to move / migrate your development environment:
I did a search inside the copied WAS, Eclipse and the project's workspace folder for their old paths (with Total Commander, feed the results into a list) and dragged all the files (except the log ones) into my editor (NotePad++) and did a replace in all open documents for the new paths. It's a bit lucrative, but it took only 10 minutes for me and afterwards the WAS server in Eclipse showed the correct profile and it also did start up well.
I have developed an add-in (xlam) for Excel 2013 (some users have 2010) that contains half a dozen macros.
I used to load it from UNC path on the server and that worked great, but every time I need to update it, all the users have to quit excel because it's locked. There are now too many users in multiple buildings, so this is approach is no longer viable. I need to find a way to deploy new version of the macro-enabled workbook and the add-in, so that it works on local PC's.
We use Microsoft SCCM at work, so I figured, no problems, I'll just deploy the add-in to the users' local add-in directory (%APPDATA%/Microst/Addins). This works fine. The problem is when I send them an updated version of the macro enabled worksheet that uses the add-in (which changes fairly frequently), %appdata% has been expanded to my user name and of course the path to the add-in is not valid on someone else's machine.
I figured, no problems, I'll make a common dir on everyone's machine (C:\Program Files\CompanyName\Addins) and install the add-in there, so that the path is valid on all machines. I open my workbook, load the add-in and test it. Works great.
I have a DisplayVersions macro that shows the correct version and the path I just loaded the addin from (C:\Program Files\CompanyName\Addins) as the Addin path.
I save the worksheet, quit Excel. Next time I open it, it's trying to load it from my %appdata%/Microsoft/Addins directory and of course it doesn't exist there. It never asked me if I wanted to copy it there.
This is driving me mad. There HAS to be a way to deploy an add-in and a worksheet, so it will work from all local PC's
Anyone got any suggestions
Regards
Mark
I've just installed Teamsite on Linux CentOS 6.5. I've used Silent Installer and mostly default properties (install.properties), I logged in as a root user and everything seems to be good but the problem occurs when I'm trying to create New site or New page. I click as a usual File -> ... and there is only New File, New Branch etc. but there is no New Page or New Site button. Do you know what could went wrong during the installation or what can I do to "restore" this buttons and create sites/pages? Thx.
Ensure you are under a Workarea. Create a workarea under a branch and give it a try.
If you are already under a Workarea, then this would the issue with your license. Have you generated right licence from the official license website from HP Autonomy.
The Features are tied to License what you have. Just to cross verify if you do not see SiteMap TAB next to Content and Workflow ( just above file menu ) that indicated you are missing a full licence.
Please generate new licence and try deleting old and start Teamsite server issuing iwreset -a command.
Let me know if this helps.
I have been trying to install sql server 2008 r2 at my local machine and at the end of the installation i got this error "Wait on the database engine recovery handle failed". The Wizard shows progress in which some of the components including Database Engine could be not be installed.
I need some help related to this.
This issue can pop up for a few different scenarios. Do check the logs for error.
One of the scenario when this error can occur if a Microsoft® system folder is either missing or lacking the correct permissions.
Please use the following steps:
1.Click the Windows® Start button and click Run.
2.Type %appdata% and click OK.
3.Browse to the Microsoft folder.
4.Locate the Protect folder to assign the correct permissions:
Note: If the Protect folder is missing from the Microsoft folder, you will need to create it in this location by right-clicking and selecting Folder. Ensure to name the folder "Protect."
1.Right-click on the Protect folder and select Properties.
2.Click on the Security tab. Ensure the System and your logged on Windows User account is listed and both have Full Control.
3.Click Add to begin adding the accounts. For Windows Vista®/Windows 7, you will need to click Edit first.
4.In the "Enter the object names to select" box, type the word System, and press Enter on your keyboard. The System account should be listed
now. Select System from the user names list and select Full Control
under the Allow column. Click Apply .
5.Follow steps 3-4 to find, add and assign Full Control permissions also for you logged on Windows User account.
6.Click OK
.
Attempt to install SQL Server 2008 R2.
Even if this does not solve your problem, you take a look at the msdn blog that provides a workaround for the install scenario and see if this fixes it?
