GWT is used and the application is deployed on WebLogic using HTTPS.
The performance is poor and with F12 Developer Tools, we could see that blank.html is downloaded multiple times. This is clearly related to GWT but we have not been able to figure out why.

This is actually from GXT.java.
This is used in a few cases when creating an <iframe> element, so that IE won't give errors if your site is hosted from SSL. I can actually only find one case (as of GXT 3.1.1) which uses this, in Layer.java. Only IE pages loaded from https urls will make use of this.
The Layer class uses this as a "shim", a way to prop up some DOM elements above overs, and work around some browser bugs (typically plugin or iframe related). Menus and popup dialogs use this to ensure that they don't appear "underneath" content that they should be "above".
This file is very small - just enough HTML to convince IE than the iframe has correctly loaded, and no more. It never changes, and should load nearly instantly.
As far as performance goes, this should only happen when a Menu or Window/Dialog/Tooltip is shown - these shouldn't be happening on app startup usually, at least not more than a window or two. Additionally, the browser should recognize that it is loading the same element and cache it correctly, and not load it multiple times (though it might be listed several times as hitting the cache). If the server has instructed the browser to never cache the file, that is something you should look at changing.
In short, this is very unlikely to be the cause of any performance issues, at least in GXT itself. If somehow you have the shim enabled on every single widget in your project, this should not be required. If the file is loading slowly, something may be very wrong with your server configuration.

I have a panel used in multiple pages in an app we're developing. In this panel is a FileUploadField that uses AjaxFormSubmitBehavior (extended as FileUploadBehavior) on "change" to upload a file, which I then add to a list via ajax, update the view, clear the FileUploadField, and then allow them to select another file. And this is in fact exactly what happens in one of the pages using the panel...but not in another. In the non-working page, the first file selected is repeated over and over regardless of what file is picked after the first.
In the onSubmit of the behavior, we get the the FileUpload object which is supposed to be different between requests. I can see in the debugger that the FileUpload is the exact same object as the previous request, not merely carrying the same payload.
I'm scrutinizing the usage of the panel on the two pages and see no material differences. I can see the file control on the page DOES show the changed file name while I sit at my breakpoint on the server (so I suspect whatever is going wrong is on the java side). But I can't figure out why they behave differently or see where it's going wrong. The panels and pages are large and complex, so here's snippets of the relevant pieces.

I have a break right after this line and can see the first file gets repeated. The code that instantiates the field and behavior in the panel looks like:

I feel like the fact that it works in one page and not in another leads me to think the problem is outside the panel. The fact that the control in the browser shows the 2nd filename during test leads me to think it's on the java side. But nothing about the file event or definition happens outside the panel itself. The form elements are declared identically, and both have multipart enctypes when the pages render. Both successfully upload their first file. I'm kind of not even sure where to look for why wicket is re-using the FileUpload object in one page but not in another.
I should mention that we use Apache Wicket 6.26.
update: I looked into the source of FileUploadField, and it has an explicit check on whether FileUploads is null in it's internal property, and if so returns it without checking the actual request. I don't see any way to clear this value between requests. clearInput() doesn't affect it from what I see. I'm more confused by how this is working in one page than why it's not in the one where it doesn't now. I also don't know how to make the class 'reset' between requests.
Okay, figured this out. As martin-g pointed out, the fileUploads is set null in onDetach(), which I discovered about an hour after my update. The problem is that the onDetach() first tries to null out the model object. But that method was blowing up because there was no method 'fileUploadField' on the model attached to the form which was a compound property model. The page that worked does NOT use a compound property model for the form. For some reason, when this error occurred, it was being swallowed somewhere in the call stack and did not end up in my console log.
My solution was to provide a local model to the fileUploadField since that's not how I'm interacting with the control anyway (I'm using ajax and getting the FileUpload directly each time). That fixed it. It now works everywhere.
I maintain a vb.net website. A button on a page shows an AjaxControlToolkit.dll ModalPopupExtender. When I click the button, the page reloads, but no popup appears.
My tests below cover the scenarios I can think of. Please help me diagnose and fix.
This ModalPopupExtender succeeded in the past. The error might have started when we moved to a new server, or when we implemented https, or a browser update, or at some other time since then.
Tried Chrome (latest) and Firefox.
I RDPed into the server and opened the page in Chrome there. ModalPopupExtender succeeded. Same Chrome version as my PC. So, unlikely to be a code issue.
A different page on the same site uses ModalPopupExtender successfully. So, unlikely to be local PC settings.
I put lines of test code immediately before and after ModalPopupExtender.Show(). Both succeed.
Aha - found it!
Solution
The ASPX/HTML referred to http://ajax.googleapis.com. Changing the references to https made ModalPopupExtender.Show() work correctly for me.
Explanation/Diagnosis (if you can clarify further, please comment)
When I checked the html served to my browser, I noticed it defined a javascript function called fn(). The definition for fn() didn't appear in the html served to the server's browser. After the https change, fn() no longer appears in the html I receive. The other page, where ModalPopupExtender worked, didn't have any reference to googleapis.com.
I assume that using http instead of https caused ajax.googleapis.com to provide fn() and that fn() in some way interfered with the normal operation of my ModalPopupExtender.

Note: the http also included another javascript function related to the ModalPopupExtender. But there was a similar one on the working page, and in the working version served to the server's browser, and in my fixed version. So, I assume that function is correct.
I have an single page application created in MVVM and knockout,typescript technology.
I am using knockout templating for creating different views within a Page.
The application Page has a view which shows a list of tasks user can start,pause,resume tasks.accordingly status changes using knockout.The database is getting updated but the UI doesnt reflect changes.
This application works fine in chrome but in IE the page doesn't get refreshed.In IE when from settings i choose request for new version of stored pages everytime.It works fine in IE also.
can any one help me out with a solution for this problem
It seems that your problem with the non-refreshing UI is a json caching problem.
Try to disable jquery ajax caching
$.ajaxSetup({ cache: false });
globally or just temporarily for the request which causes the problem.
IE is caching JSON responses, you wil find your response as a .json file in the temporary internet files folder :)

I have a GWT application which is secured by Spring Security. I have a Main.html which serves the application and Login.html for login. For most part everything works fine everytime. But sometimes after restarting my application I can still access Main.html - although most of the widgets on the page are unusable. I can see the Login.html's HTML in the console being printed as exception. On refreshing, it takes me to login page. Has anyone ran into similar issue? Is this some kind of caching issue? How can this be avoided?
It seems that in your case your bootstrap file is beining cached and thus a wrong version of your app is being loaded.
You have to make sure that your bootstrap file (the one which is named nocache) is never cached. See here for more details.
You can check if your bootstrap file is cached by using Firebug and looking at the HTTP requests for your scripts. You can check two things:
If the correct <md5>.cache.html are loaded (compare it to the ones in your gwt output folder).
The response type of your .nocache. file is not 304 or so.
Adding meta tag on top of my Main.html - helped me resolve my issue for now.

We've got an Eclipse RAP application that's behaving a bit strangely in Firefox - two distinct problems.
When you browse around, you can click on a button in one part of the system. This opens a popup window like so:

where the URL is another servlet in the application. This servlet is in the same runtime, but has nothing to do with RAP - it takes a binary blob from in-memory storage and dumps it in the output stream.
Problem 1: This causes the HTTP session to die in firefox, and shows the "session expired" RAP error page with a link to restart the session.
Problem 2: Now, when you click on the link to restart the session, it shows the application's dialog again, but the session expired error is shown again the moment you do anything. This prevents the user from using the system again, unless Firefox is closed down completely and restarted. A quick peek with FireBug reveals that the JSESSIONID passed by Firefox does not change.
Has anyone seen this before?
How long is the dumping of the stream to the output? May it cause a timeout? As RAP uses Javascript calls, it might be much shorter than the normal timeout time.
For problem 2: Firefox caches a lot of things; and if the Javascript execution hangs, it might cause such problems.
Are these problems present in other browsers? It might be a good idea to check with the internal browser (or any other browser with a different rendering engine).
It turns out that if a RAP application opens a popup window pointing to a servlet in the application itself, inside the current HTTP servlet context, the session is killed. Fixed by creating a dummy HTTP context for the servlet in question.
If you need to deliver content from within the same application, you should use a service handler instead. See this FAQ:
