how to expose hashicorp vault on ec2 instance - hashicorp-vault

I am getting this error using command "vault status"
: Error checking seal status: Get https://127.0.0.1:8200/v1/sys/seal-status: http: server gave HTTP response to HTTPS client
please help me out to solve this issue.
config.json
{
"listener": [{
"tcp": {
"address" : "0.0.0.0:8200",
"tls_disable" : 1
}
}],
"api_addr": "http://<public ip of EC2>:8200",
"storage": {
"file": {
"path" : "/vault-data"
}
}

Need to set VAULT_ADDR environment variable before using "vault" command:
export VAULT_ADDR=http://127.0.0.1:8200
Please watch learn.hashicorp.com for more info.

why does hashicorp vault json config fail with "Error initializing listener of type listener"?

When using hashicorp vault version 1.0.2 and the following JSON configuration file in config.json:
{
"listener": [
{
"tcp": [
{
"address": "0.0.0.0:8300",
"tls_disable": 1
}
]
}
],
"storage": {
"file": {
"path": "/tmp/foobar"
}
}
}
vault server -config config.json fails with Error initializing listener of type listener: unknown listener type: "listener".
However, with the same configuration in config.hcl
listener tcp {
address = "0.0.0.0:8300"
tls_disable = 1
}
storage file {
path = "/tmp/foobar"
}
vault server -config config.hcl works as expected:
==> Vault server configuration:
Cgo: disabled
Listener 1: tcp (addr: "0.0.0.0:8300", cluster address: "0.0.0.0:8301", max_request_duration: "1m30s", max_request_size: "33554432", tls: "disabled")
Log Level: (not set)
Mlock: supported: true, enabled: true
Storage: file
Version: Vault v1.0.2
Version Sha: 37a1dc9c477c1c68c022d2084550f25bf20cac33
==> Vault server started! Log data will stream in below:
...
What am I missing?
The JSON seems to be correct, try removing the square brakets:
{
"listener":
{
"tcp":
{
"address": "0.0.0.0:8300",
"tls_disable": 1
}
},
"storage": {
"file": {
"path": "/tmp/foobar"
}
}
}

keycloak and postgresql on openshift

I tried to deploy keycloak with POSTGRESQL on openshift. I used this image, jboss/keycloak-openshift image for keycloak and rhscl/postgresql-95-rhel7 for postgresql.
I then I added environment variables in keycloak deployment
DB_DATABASE : keycloak
DB_USER : postgresl-secret-database-user
DB_PASSWORD : postgresl-secret-database-password
DB_VENDOR : POSTGRES
I thought this is what I needed to do to make keycloak work with postgresql. These are the errors and warning I am seeing in the pod logs.
IOException occurred while connecting to postgres:5432: java.net.UnknownHostException: postgres
Connection error: : org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: The connection attempt failed.
But it is not working this way. The keycloak pod fails. Do I need to do anything else as well?
What is the name of your database service?
If not the default of postgres that Keycloak expects, you need to set DB_ADDR. I use the following in my template:
{
"name": "KEYCLOAK_USER",
"value": "${KEYCLOAK_USER}"
},
{
"name": "KEYCLOAK_PASSWORD",
"value": "${KEYCLOAK_PASSWORD}"
},
{
"name": "DB_VENDOR",
"value": "postgres"
},
{
"name": "DB_ADDR",
"value": "${KEYCLOAK_NAME}-db"
},
{
"name": "DB_PORT",
"value": "5432"
},
{
"name": "DB_DATABASE",
"value": "keycloak"
},
{
"name": "DB_USER",
"value": "keycloak"
},
{
"name": "DB_PASSWORD",
"value": "${DATABASE_PASSWORD}"
},
Suggest setting them all.

Where do you find the Config info for IBM Cloud Storage API for Javascript

Going through the tutorial for the Cloud Storage Api Javascript API (https://console.bluemix.net/docs/services/cloud-object-storage/libraries/node.html#node-js) and it ask your to fill out the config file
var config = {
endpoint: '<endpoint>',
apiKeyId: '<api-key>',
ibmAuthEndpoint: 'https://iam.ng.bluemix.net/oidc/token',
serviceInstanceId: '<resource-instance-id>',
};
I think apiKeyId is found in the certification
"cloud-object-storage": [
{
"credentials": {
"apikey": "**HERE**",
"endpoints": "",
"iam_apikey_description": "",
"iam_apikey_name": "",
"iam_role_crn": "",
"iam_serviceid_crn": "",
"resource_instance_id": ""
},
"syslog_drain_url": null,
"volume_mounts": [],
"label": "cloud-object-storage",
"provider": null,
"plan": "Lite",
"name": "Cloud Object Storage-bn",
"tags": [
"Lite",
"storage",
"ibm_release",
"ibm_created",
"rc_compatible"
]
}
]
I think endpoint is found at
https://console.bluemix.net/services/cloud-object-storage/
Under EndPoints an example would be (s3-api.us-geo.objectstorage.softlayer.net)
I have no idea where serviceInstanceId is found in the IBM Cloud.
I believe you can retrieve the resource_instance_id you need using the following Cloud CLI commands:
bx resource service-instances -r global
bx resource service-instance "SERVICE NAME FROM PREVIOUS COMMAND" -r all --id
serviceInstanceId is the "resource_instance_id" from the credential. Something like:
crn:v1:bluemix:public:cloud-object-storage:global:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"resource_instance_id": ""
The endpoint is really one like "s3-api.us-geo.objectstorage.softlayer.net" and not the endpoint informed on the credential.

Error when deploying business network to HSBN in bluemix

Using Hyperledger Composer v0.7.4 (on Ubuntu 16.04) I have tried deploying a business network to a HSBN in Bluemix, but I get the following error:
Error: Error: REQUEST_TIMEOUT
Had a friend try it on a Mac on my same business network with the same connection profile and it worked. Tried reinstalling everything (even reinstalled Ubuntu) and still no luck.
Here is my connection profile:

Any idea why I'm getting this error?
Solved it by setting my DNS to 8.8.8.8
Take a look at this question How do I set my DNS when resolv.conf is being overwritten?

Grant access to RDS layer using Cloudformation for app layer

I have an RDS database that I bring up using Cloudformation. Now I have a Cloudformation document that brings up my app server tier. How can I grant my app servers access to the RDS instance?
If the RDS instance was created by my Cloudformation document, I know I could do this:
"DBSecurityGroup": {
"Type": "AWS::RDS::DBSecurityGroup",
"Properties": {
"EC2VpcId" : { "Ref" : "VpcId" },
"DBSecurityGroupIngress": { "EC2SecurityGroupId": { "Fn::GetAtt": [ "AppServerSecurityGroup", "GroupId" ]} },
"GroupDescription" : "Frontend Access"
}
}
But the DBSecurityGroup will already exist by the time I run my app cloudformation. How can I update it?
Update Following what huelbois pointed out to me below, I understood that I could just create an AWS::EC2::SecurityGroupIngress in my app Cloudformation. As I am using a VPC and the code huelbois posted is for classic, I can confirm that this works:
In RDS Cloudformation:
"DbVpcSecurityGroup" : {
"Type" : "AWS::EC2::SecurityGroup",
"Properties" : {
"GroupDescription" : "Enable JDBC access on the configured port",
"VpcId" : { "Ref" : "VpcId" },
"SecurityGroupIngress" : [ ]
}
}
And in app Cloudformation:
"specialRDSRule" : {
"Type": "AWS::EC2::SecurityGroupIngress",
"Properties" : {
"IpProtocol": "tcp",
"FromPort": 5432,
"ToPort": 5432,
"GroupId": {"Ref": "DbSecurityGroupId"},
"SourceSecurityGroupId": {"Ref": "InstanceSecurityGroup"}
}
}
where DbSecurityGroupId is the id of the group setup above (something like sg-27324c43) and is a parameter to the app Cloudformation document.
When you want to use already existing resources in a CloudFormation template, you can use the previously created ids, instead of Ref or GetAtt.
In your example, you can use:
{ "EC2SecurityGroupId": "sg-xxxNNN" }
where "sg-xxxNNN" is the id of your DB SecurityGroup (not sure of the DB SecurityGroup prefix, since we don't use EC2-classic but VPC).
I would recommend using a parameter for your SecurityGroup in your template.
*** update **
For your specific setup, I would use a "DBSecurityGroupIngress" resource, to add a new sg to your RDS instance.
In your first stack (RDS), you create an empty DBSecurityGroup like this:
"DBSecurityGroup": {
"Type": "AWS::RDS::DBSecurityGroup",
"Properties": {
"EC2VpcId" : { "Ref" : "VpcId" },
"DBSecurityGroupIngress": [],
"GroupDescription" : "Frontend Access"
}
}
This DBSecurityGroup is refered to by the DBInstance. (I guess you have specific requisites for using DBSecurityGroup instead of VPCSecurityGroup).
In your App stack, you create a DBSecurityGroupIngress resource, which is a child of the DBSecurityGroup your created in the first stack:
"specialRDSRule" : {
"Type":"AWS::RDS::DBSecurityGroupIngress",
"Properties" : {
"DBSecurityGroupName": "<the arn of the DBSecurityGroup>",
"CIDRIP": String,
"EC2SecurityGroupId": String,
"EC2SecurityGroupName": String,
"EC2SecurityGroupOwnerId": String
}
}
You need the arn of the DBSecurityGroup, which is "arn:aws:rds:::secgrp:". The other parameters come from your App stack, not sure if you need everything (I don't do EC2-classic security groups, only VPC).
Reference : http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSCloudFormation/latest/UserGuide/aws-resource-rds-security-group-ingress.html
We use the same mechanism with VPC SecurityGroups, with Ingress & Egress rules, so we can have two SG reference each-other.
