My LCD rotates. The software that comes with my ATI card to rotate the desktop just crashes (I've uninstalled, reinstalled and rolled them back, still crashes). Is there any other way to rotate a Windows XP Desktop by 90 degree increments? I am looking for either software or code (any language is fine.) I know I have seen 3rd party support for this before, but I can't find it now.
I realize this may not be a strictly software development related question, but it is programmer productivity related. If I can get an answer that involves how to write a program to do this, even better!

IRotate: http://www.entechtaiwan.net/util/irotate.shtm.
Have not used it but heard good things.
Same people that make Powerstrip http://www.entechtaiwan.net/util/ps.shtm.
Which gets rave reviews from the HTPC crowd.
Was looking at these recently while researching stuff for an HTPC.
Both are try before buy shareware.

I hate to give you the answer you probably already know, but yeah this is a video card driver software thing and if the ATI software crashes then it's either corrupted or buggy or your Windows install has gone rotten.
I've done this before on my NVidia-based cards without issue. I've never owned an ATI card.

iRotate worked great, and it is free for personal use. Very quick and painless install. Thanks seanb. My only complaint is it binds hot keys to CTRL+ALT+[arrows], so I have to close it after I rotate. It seems to stay rotated, but I guess I will see what happens when I reboot.

XP with SP3 has a known issue with ATI video cards where it will not rotate the desktop.
I'm thinking I might go back to SP2 to get that back.

Right-click on Desktop
-> Graphics Properties...
-> Display Settings
-> Enable Rotation
-> 90 degrees
Well, it works on my laptop (XP Professional, SP3).

Laptop Model: Sony, Vaio SVE141D11L
Hi! I have two problem. first is when I turn on my laptop I see this Operation System Not Found, and the second problem is, I can't boot bios page, because my keyboard is not working. so, now how can I fix my problem? I mean how can I get into the bios page?
not sure why your keyboard is not working, could use more information - best way to access bios would be to plug in a basic USB keyboard and press key as says on bios screen.
Wireless keyboards/dongle keyboards most likely will not work.
Some other easier things you could try:
It sounds like your memory device(HDD/SSD/M2) might still be working but OS is corrupt so insert an OS installation media (usb, cd etc) if your on Microsoft windows you can get an windows iso tool online, as your computer cant detect OS it should boot into any bootable media.
open up your laptop remove cmos battery for over a minute which should reset your bios in-case keyboard is messed up due to settings
remove your internal media device and plug it into another computer to check if its readable.
Hope this helps

I am trying to install Raspbian on Pi 3 but when I connect it to my monitor using Hdmi the screen is just all black and it doesn't say anything. I've tried searching online but all the answers I found I got confused, since most involve connecting using ssh or something while I can't even get it to turn on to connect it to wifi.
Look for a flash of green near the power led after you plug in the power, that should indicate its booting up okay. I'd suggest verifying the install on your sd card, flash another card and try that. Ensure the power plug you have is good quality and supplying the correct voltage.
Pre-answer: you might want to verify the install on the SD before spending too much time with blind boots.
Easy answer: use a wired usb adapter (preferably with an alternate source of power), then ssh and run raspi-config as I'm sure you've already read.
Moderate answer: stick the SD card in an adapter and edit the /boot/config.txt file. See here for syntax.
Advanced: Edit files as in moderate answer above, but this time target crontab to add a script hook that connects to wifi, thus allowing ssh.

I have just started trying to set up my new Raspberry Pi. I have installed NOOBS and it is now asking which operating system I would like to use. It is recommending 'raspbian'. could anybody tell me why raspbian is the best one to use?
Raspbian is perfect for beginners to the raspberry pi.
It is easy to set-up and use
There is lots of support available on-line for it, as most people are using it.
It is based on Debian which is a widley used OS.
It is specifically designed to run on the raspberry pi.
However it all depends on what you want to use your Pi for, raspbian is great for general use. But if you were looking to do something more specific, like set up a media centre you might want to use RaspBMC
Just to amplify Matthew's view, you'll also find most of the standard starter's printed documentation assumes Raspbian. You will also be amazed how easy it is to get the Pi going, getting network and internet connectivity and starting off with the applications built in.
For such as very very basic system, Pi/Raspbian does an awful lot for minimal effort.
You could do what I did and install NOOBS it comes preloaded with python 3, python 2, scratch, and a bunch more.(plus Raspbian).

I am an experienced C/C++ programmer and have worked with assembly and many other programing language and I want to start a project as a learning process. I want to try and run a simple custom os on the iphone or ipad. What knowledge would I need to do this, and how does the iphone or ipad bootloader load the os and how could I modify it to load a custom os?
Im not really sure what to ask here so I really just need to get as much information as possible so I could ask some more informed questions to get my project started
Thanks
The first objective is to find a way to launch custom code on the iphone/ipad. Unfortunately for you this is virtually impossible. Although some jailbreaks exist for the iphone, the flaws that allowed people to put their own custom code onto the phone have mostly been closed. It's possible to do it still but it creates a tethered jailbreak, which means upon resetting your device, you will lose any custom code you managed to get onto the phone/ipad.
I would suggest finding a different device to use for your experimentation.
Take a look at the iphonelinux project. It's in a very early stage and uses the same exploits that allow jailbreaking.

When developing web apps for the iphone on a mac you can test your app in either Iphoney or the apple supplied simulator; bot of them are excellent for the task but are only available for macs. So I have to ask, are windows alternative for these iphone simulators?
So far I could only find this one.
For a roundup of mobile sims see here. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/464089/simulators-emulators-for-mobile-browser-testing
Specifically http://www.testiphone.com/ (but I'm not sure of the quality of the results from this).
I've also got a Firefox plugin, but its only really good for size.
Your other option, all-be-it naughty and long winded is to run OSX - either on a hackintosh or there are blogs showing how to run it in VMWare player.
You can also try iBBDemo. I relatively new at it, but so far it's the robustest free windows iPhone emulator I had tried yet.
There is also MobiOne which looks like the most promising of all.This is a windows only emulator with lots of features (setup file is 130mb). However even if its not clear right now, I believe at some point you would require to buy a license for it (considering its made by the same company that makes myEclipse, but I might be wrong).Any way its worth the download time
Hope this helps
