I'm starting to feel stupid. I'm following the Facebook-Connect demo "The Run Around".
At the point when I navigate to http://www.[mysite].com/testing/register_feed_forms.php to register the one-line story, I get the following error:
Error while setting up application:
You need to configure your callback URL in the Facebook Developers App
However, when I edit my app settings in the http://www.facebook.com/developers/apps.php page, I CAN'T FIND ANY BOX TO PUT THE CALLBACK URL !!
Where is it?
What is it that I'm missing? I have found many references that it should be in the "Basic" tab of my App Settings, but I can't find it! Is it the Connect Callback URL?
To be more specific, this is the content I see in 'Basic':
Essential Information
Application Name
Application ID
API Key
Secret
Basic Information
Description
Icon
Logo
Language
Developers
Contact Information
Developer Contact Email
User Support Email
User-Facing URLs
Help URL
Privacy URL
Terms of Service URL
Thank you... Either docs are obsolete or I'm becoming slow...
A "Connect URL" and a "Callback URL" are two different things, though they often contain the same url value. Does that make sense?
And yes, the documentation is BEYOND horrible and completely unacceptable. What's worse is that because it is so outdated, it often suggests things that will BREAK an already working app.
Just horrible...
Here's how to set your connect url.
Login as you to facebook.
Go to facebook.com/developers
You'll see somthing along the right side that says "my applications". Click on your app.
Then click "edit settings."
You'll be taken to a new inteface that has tabs running vertically along left side. Click the tab that says (surprise) "Connect"
The connect url text input box will be the very first at the top.
If the 'callback url' you're talking about is the same as the 'Canvas Callback URL' that I'm thinking about, which is the only callback url that I know about, then it's the second text field in the 'Canvas' tab of the editor. This is mine:
Canvas Callback URL: http://localhost/ Facebook pulls the content for your application's canvas pages from this URL.

I`m a developer of Facebook login app for website. When I'm trying to save changes in my Facebook web-application settings, getting this error "Site URL has been been identified as malicious and/or abusive." I can't save anything while field "Site URL" contains my domain name. What am I supposed to do?
Go to facebook.com . Try to share the url. You will get a dialog saying the url is bad and in the button there will be a link if you don't agree and you want to report it.
simple solution is to disable facebook button, so that facebvook change their aggressive globalism political tactic of changing their ways for developers constantly forcing to change their code, like google does with google login.
Other solution is to, according to:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/caroltice/2013/03/15/when-facebook-calls-you-abusive-reclaim-your-reputation/
First go to:
https://global.sitesafety.trendmicro.com/
and check if your URL appears as non safe or as Untested
Click on reclassify --> url reclassification request
Then select the option SAFE
Suggest a category
Add your email
click the button to proceed, then go to yuour email and click the link that trendmicro sent to you, then wait

Hi I wan't to create a facebook app to use it for the auth in my new site locally installed(my machine),but from yesterday I don't succeed to install it and use it, all time I have this very strange error when I wan't write a domain in the "App Domains" :
This must be derived from Canvas URL, Secure Canvas URL, Site URL, Mobile Site URL, Page Tab URL or Secure Page Tab URL. Check and correct the following domains
the domain of my application is http://localhost/project/app_dev.php/ it dosn't work I change it by a real url such as : http://www.exemple.com/,but I had the same error, and just I notice that I see this error when I create an app with new look of facebook (yesterday)...
In my case the problem was I hadn't completed the "+ Add Platform > Website" section. Once I did that the contents of App Domains became valid and the error went away.
I had this same problem yesterday, the stackoverflow answers that helped me the most were
Make local development work with Facebook/Google APIs and Canvas URL / Secure Canvas URL error message ( Also checkout How to handle OmniAuth callbacks in multiple environments?)
The Facebook developer UI has changed a bit. I'm writing this answer to consolidate all the info that helped me.
1. Make local.host Point to Your Computer
First thing you need to do is (as answered in the first link), facebook won't take localhost as a valid callback site, because it confuses localhost with a top level domain (com org etc.) in other words there is not dot . in your domain name. So change your /etc/hosts to add the entry
127.0.0.1 local.host
Now youcan access your app at http://local.host/... (this will take effect as soon as you save /etc/hosts file, no need to restart anything)
2. Add local.host as the Site URL on the facebook Dev Console
The second thing you need to do is add local.host as the site url on the facebook page
Now don't use your production app. Add a dummy app on your https://developers.facebook.com account Because your production app will have to set the site URL to your production URL and not local.host
Configure the dummy app as shown in the screenshot. But that website section(shown in the screenshot) won't be visible on the Basic settings page from the beginning.
First you will have to click + Add Platform button at the bottom, and select Website.
Notice I added http://local.host:3000/. That's where my ruby server runs in dev mode.
Also, be sure to use App Id and App Secret for the dummy app when running your webapp in dev mode.
HTH.
My problem was that logging in with facebook wasn't working for my app.
It turned out that I just needed to fill in the "Valid OAuth redirect URIs" field on the "Advanced" tab.
e.g. http://example.com/auth/google/callback
I'd a similar problem, Facebook have changed now on left pane file login (After selecting you app from top left corner) -> Valid OAuth redirect URIs
If you work on desktop app like WPF or winforms and use a WebBrowser Control to log in with the Facebook SDK.
You have to set to yes the Embedded Browser OAuth Login in Advance Tab of your facebook apps setting.
hope I help
Chose "Add platform" at the bottom and give your localhost url. "http://localhost:port/".
After this step. Facebook allows you to add localhost:port as your domain url.
After these 2 steps you can test "login with facebook" without any trouble.
We are developing an app that makes posts on behalf of our users to Facebook. Within those posts, we want to put links to external (non-Facebook) websites.
Looking at the links in the status bar of the browser (usually Chrome), the correct URL is displayed. However, Facebook seems to wrap the actually-clicked link into some extra bells-and-whistles. Usually, this works correctly.
Sometimes, however, this URL wrapping ends up sending the click to a URL like:
http: //spywaresite.info/0/go.php?sid=2
(added space to make it non-browsable!) which generates Chromes severe warning message:
This happens very occasionally on Chrome, but very much more often in the iOS browser on the iPhone.
Does anyone have any pointers as to how to deal with this?
EDIT
For example, the URLs we put in the link is
http://www.example.com/some/full/path/somewhere
but the URL that actually gets clicked is:
http://platform.ak.fbcdn.net/www/app_full_proxy.php?app=374274329267054&v=1&size=z&cksum=fc1c17ed464a92bc53caae79e5413481&src=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.example.com%2Fsome%2Ffull%2Fpath%2Fsomewhere
There seems to be some JavaScript goodness in the page that unscrambles that and usually redirects correctly.
EDIT2
The links above are put on the image and the blue text to the right of the image in the screenshot below.
Mousing over the links (or the image) in the browser shows the correct link. Right-clicking on the link and selecting "Copy Link Address" gets the fbcdn.net link above (or one like it). Actually clicking on the link seems to set off some JavaScript processing of the fbcdn.net link into the right one... but sometimes that processing fails.
I'm not 100% sure what you're asking here, but i'll tell you what I know:- are you referring to this screen on Facebook?
(or rather, the variation of that screen which doesn't allow clickthrough?)
If you manually send a user to facebook.com/l.php?u=something they'll always see that message - it's a measure to prevent an open redirector
if your users are submitting such links, including the l.php link, you'll need to extract the destination URL (in the 'u' parameter)
If you're seeing the l.php URLs come back from the API this is probably a bug.
If links clicked on facebook.com end up on the screen it's because facebook have detected the link as suspicious (e.g. for URL redirector sites - the screen will allow clickthrough but warn the user first) or malicious/spammy (will not allow clickthrough)
In your app you won't be able to post links to the latter (an error will come back saying the URL is blocked), and the former may throw a captcha sometimes (if you're using the Feed dialog, this should be transparent to the app code, the user will enter the captcha and the dialog will return as normal)
If this isn't exactly what you were asking about please clarify and i'll update my answer
Rather than add to the question, I thought I'd put more details here.
It looks like the Facebook mention in the original title was mis-directed, so I've removed it.
We still haven't got to the bottom of the issue.
However, we used both Wireshark and Fiddler to look at the HTTP traffic between the Chrome browser (on the PC) and Facebook. Both showed that Facebook was returning the correct URL refresh.
Here's what Wireshark showed:
What we saw on Fiddler was that our server is issuing a redirect to the spywaresite.info site:
We are working with our ISP to figure out what is happening here.
Whats the best way to develop a tab on facebook in a facebook page with content inside it? Would it just be html within that tab?
Easiest way is to install a 3rd party iframe App on your Facebook Page. You can find these Apps by searching for "iframe" in Facebook's search. Once you have one of these Apps installed, you can customize the HTML/CSS/JS of the iframe, which will then be reflected on you Page Tab. Alternatively, you could create your own Facebook App and install it as an iframe in your Facebook Page. This will achieve the same thing, and may give you more control, but you will have to host the html/css/js files yourself and it will be more work.
I recently have the same need.
To just place a facebook tab containing just a static html with text and image.
Here are the steps. It can be quite a nightmare to review the documentation of Facebook since it is always in change.
In the home page, click in the settings button. There is a link "Create application". You have to be sure to be in the Facebook development section
In the Create Application home page. In the upper menu there is the button "Applications". Here will be listed all your applications. If this is the first time, again the button "Create a new app"
3.Enter the information requested. Name of the application, an identifier (I prefer the same display name without spaces) and choose a category.
As a security step, a captcha is shown. Just fill with the characters in the screen.
Since your tab is an html. You have to host this file in your own server in order to have a path. The first tricky thing here is to convert this file into a php, asp, or similar extension. since Facebook uses GET or POST protocol to send information. You have to ensure that your file understands this requests. So, your server must accept the corresponding programming language. Even if your tab doesn't have any real code.
The configuration of your app is shown in screen. In the left menu, the option "configuration" displays the options to activate your tab.
click "Add plattform" button and select Facebook tab
fill the information required with the corresponding URLs. Note: Facebook always requires secured URLs so make sure that your server or hosting service has the SSL certificate validated.
Upload the image of your tab to be shown in the home of your profile in your tab section.
ok, so far we are good. Now. This was a long search. There is no longer the "Add to my webpage" link anywhere. So use this link to access to that hidden link. here Basically you enter the facebook app id and the URL of the hosted file.
Then you select the facebook page where you want to link this tab. And that's it!
note: the alternative to the link is this: (https://www.facebook.com/dialog/pagetab?app_id=YOUR_APP_ID&next=YOUR_URL )
Hope this helps. It was a waste of time when I have to search for the details so I want to share this.
I'm working on a Facebook app tab and would like to use the signed request bundle as documented here:
http://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/462/
I'm trying to use their example code to unpackage the signed request which is supposedly passed to the tab, however, $_POST, $_GET, and $_REQUEST are always all empty.
The exact code works on the canvas page and I am able to parse the signed request.
Is there something that I'm missing in their recent announcement?
By the way, the app is not published to the marketplace, and the fanpage my tab is installed on is private. Will that make a difference?
-Seth
Okay, figured it out!
When configuring the app, I had filled in the "Tab URL" to be "tab/"
This made the full url to the tab page "http://www.example.com/myfacebookapp/tab/"
This made sense to me.
Apparently, Facebook doesn't like this. After changing my "Tab URL" to 'tab/index.php", the signed request started to show up in the app tab!
Essentially, the problem is that your webserver is performing a redirect when it receives the request. In your case, it's redirecting from http://www.example.com/myfacebookapp/tab/ to http://www.example.com/myfacebookapp/tab/index.php; in my case it was redirecting from http://www.example.com/myfacebookapp/tab to http://www.example.com/myfacebookapp/tab/ (my app is built in .Net MVC, so has no filenames, but needs that trailing slash, apparently).
So the canonical solution is to make sure that the path in the Tab URL field is the actual URL, not one that the webserver will redirect to. If the webserver has to make a redirect, then the real page is fetched by GET (not POST) and no signed_request postdata is provided to your script.
Very frustrating; I just spend an hour and a half debugging why my test app worked and the production one didn't. To make things worse, I knew this answer, it just didn't register that this was what the problem was. Very irritating!
Thanks Seth I was having the same problem. I could get a signed request on the app canvas page but not of my page tab. For clarification
go to www.facebook.com/developers/
click on edit settings for your app
click the Facebook Integration tab
at the bottom in the Page Tabs section in the Tab URL field enter in the path to the index.php page for your facebook landing page
ex. if your page is located at www.foobar.com/facebook/tab/index.php you need to put "tab/index.php" (without the quotes) rather than just "tab/"
Been trying to figure this out for days!
I found a solution:
Just put a "/" at the end of the tab url.
Like: "http://domain.us/facebook/tab/"
It worked for me, let us know if it also works for you!
Once you are Authenticate with Application you will get the signed_request data,
Authenticated as like in the below URLs
