During a conversation about a site (with a forum) I am about to launch, a friend raised the point that Facebook and its ways have more or less killed off forums.
Probably "killed off" is too harsh in explaining it, but he did have a point. I have heard many people saying that they would rather go to a Facebook page than visit a different website. Especially the young crowds (whom my site is more or less aimed at).
I was wondering what alternative ways of involving users are out there (aside from Facebook Connect and OpenLike and the sort).
Topic sites (such as this one). Wiki sites. Social sites with voting/commenting such as Digg / Slashdot
You're just behind on the "scene" man, I hate it too, but Facebook IS "the computer" or "the internet" to most kids these days.

I did some google search on cars and the next day i started getting advertisement on cars on Facebook. Do Google and Facebook share browsing data, if so how.
Since they are concurrents, this would seem unlikely. You might however have left some clue that you were searching about cars on Facebook. The algorithm bases itself on pages you've visited. Also, many webpages contain a tracker from Facebook, generally bundled in the "Login with Facebook" button or "Like this page" button. It lets Facebook know you were there. That's probably what happened.

Generally, which would customers prefer? To remain on my site or be transferred to paypal to complete a purchase?
Do customers prefer the security of a paypal branded page? or would users prefer to remain on my site and process payments through the api?
In all honesty it's probably worth sending them off to paypal. Most 'buyers' online wont have a preference as they don't quite understand it. Yet, some will be re-assured that they're interacting with a familiar brand.
I've had this with some sites that I've written. Some people wont even register on the site for fear of people stealing their information. The funny thing is, these people will then phone the store and happily give all important information over the phone. It's madness! :)
I guess it all comes down to the individual, but redirecting to Paypal and having them complete it there is probably the easiest option. HTH!

I was researching for retargeting ad companies and I visited xxxx company at their own website (outside Facebook) and about 30 minutes later when I was checking my facebook account I started seeing ads from that company (which I am sure I have never seen before). Also I am not a "fan" of the company or have liked the page on Facebook so I am pretty sure it has to do with me visiting their URL.
Is it possible to target people who have visited my/any URL outside facebook? Till now I thought the only way of targeting people on Facebook was using their graph data.
Thanks!
That sounds like Facebook Exchange.

I'm looking for an authoritative source on which browsers people browse facebook with. Specifically, I'm curious what percent IE6 and IE7 are at.
I constantly run into issues with IE7 on Facebook, and am trying to determine if it's worth my time to search for solutions.
I doubt if Facebook would release that private information.
You could use your own web server's log files (the server that hosts your facebook app) and get stats from those files. But I presume, you don't have access to those. So you might be able to make a guess by checking out the global stats here: http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php or http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp
EDIT
Some information from a hosting company about its Facebook stats. However, this information is from 2009. :|

Facebook has announced they are dropping support for IE7 (they already no longer support IE6). They have not announced numbers as far as I know. I doubt it will be worth it for you to support it as well for your Facebook app.

I am looking for an iPhone developer for a consulting job. The job is a single project and will have a well defined set of requirements. The problem is I don't know where to go to post for something like this. The developer would of course have a contract and get paid.
What are some sites i can post a job description to for iPhone developers?
37Signals has an iPhone specific job board category.
http://jobs.37signals.com/categories/6/jobs
I also see lots of iPhone developer jobs posted over at ArsTechnica:

I think an interesting way to hire an iPhone dev would be to sponsor DaringFireball.net. You would probably get a lot of decent iPhone developers at least seeing the ad.
