I am developing an app using Grails and GWT for a client side.
I want to use the same date format both on the client side and on the server side (preferably defined in one file).
So far i've understood that Grails got it's own mechanism for internationalization (grails-app/i18n). I know i can access these messages from any server code using app context.
I can also access any resource file inside web-app directory.
For the client side, i can use ConstantsWithLookup interface and GWT.Create(...) to get an instance of it.
But, i still haven't found good solution to integrate these two together, so i have date format defined in one place. Any ideas or tips?
Thanks,
Sergey
After digging into Grails more, i came to a solution.
I've put constant into .properties file under grails-app/i18n.
Then, i hook to eventCompileEnd and i copy resources from grails-app/i18n to specific package in target\generated-sources.
After this step is completed, i generate google I18N interfaces using copied property files.
I've put this functionality to separate plugin.
_Events.groovy:
includeTargets << new File("${myPluginDir}/scripts/_MyInternal.groovy")
eventCompileEnd = {
internalCopyMessageResources();
}
eventCopyMessageResourcesEnd = {
generateI18NInterface();
}
Now it is possible to access localized data from server side and from client side.

So, I have a Spring-MVC RESTful backend, that is cross-domain enabled. It is unit-tested, I can call my web-services and get back the correct JSON.
I have a SmartGWT 5.1p and GWT 2.7.0 front-end application that works great in SuperDev mode or Classic Dev Mode, either works great. When I do this, I am using the old Firefox 24 browser with the GWT plugin, and I can see my app work just great. My datasources are tied to RESTful web-services, and I can create, retrieve, update, and delete records via my DataSources.
I can compile the whole app via Maven, and get a WAR created just fine. I tried moving this WAR over to a tomcat server, and it deploys correctly. I can see the app running in tomcat with no errors in the logs.
Then when I go to the first page, the app comes up s normal with no errors. The first thing I do is add a username and password into a form, and then it is supposed to call a LoginDataSource which is tied into a LoginCOntroller, or login web-service.
What I can see from firebug is that when I make my call, rather than just calling:
http://mydomain:8080/admin/login/user/myusername/pwd/mypassword
I get:
http://mydomain:8080/admin/login/user/myusername/pwd/mypassword?0{and a whole lotta stuff after this) ... the query string I presume.
When I hit the Submit button, I get a SERVER TRANSPORT error, and that's it, I don't get any more information that that. There is nothing else to report from firebug except that the OPTIONS and GET add a whole lot of query string nonsense after the password.
I can look in the tomcat logs, and I don't see any errors in there at all. I don't even see the URL call to the web-service.
Any help on this would be much appreciated. I've been dealing with SmartGWT for years, and switched to back-end development for a while, and not I am trying to make my SmartGWT front-end work as well. But, I am a little rusty as to what is happening now.
Thanks!
The problem is not the querystring, it's the old base url I have in the datasource. There is a method in each datasource called: getServiceRoot
In getServiceRoot, I was using a hardcoded "localhost:8080", which in client code that doesn't work. That means whoever is running the app in their browser, "localhost" means their machine. So, I had to change the getServiceRoot to do the following:
protected String getServiceRoot()
{
String baseUrl = "http://" + Window.Location.getHostName();
return baseUrl + UrlConstants.SOME_URL_REST_ENDPOINT;
}
Since I have two WAR's on the same machine;
one WAR is a Spring MVC back-end RESTful web-services
the other WAR is the front-end, SmartGWT client application
This is a problem I run into ... I think just because both are on the same machine, that to the front-end, just call the code on the localhost, because it is there. But to the browser, that could be any other machine.
I suppose I could have just hard-coded the public IP address of the machine running tomcat, and then the client-side SmartGWT would then certainly find the RESTful web-services. Or, I could have used a Spring Env Profile to make that happen as well. But the code change I made should work, provided both WARS are on the same machine.
I just got to remember that client-side code in a browser is relevant to the machine the browser is running on.
So, this is fixed. If anyone needs any clarification, please let me know.
I try to create the entity like this:
DatastoreService ds = DatastoreServiceFactory.getDatastoreService();
Entity stock = new Entity("Stock", 1);
stock.setProperty("Stock", "FCB");
ds.put(stock);
but keep getting the error:
No source code is available for type com.google.appengine.api.datastore.DatastoreService; did you forget to inherit a required module?
The error means just what it says, the GWT compiler needs access to the Java source it compiles to Javascript, and obviously DatastoreService is not something that should exist on the frontend - so you have an architecture issue here.
You'll need to write a proxy that can call a server component (Which in turns calls the DatastoreService) and returns DTOs/value objects (that you define and thus have the source for).
Cheers,
No source code is available
GWT transliterate Java to Javascript, reading it's source code and there a limited language support.
What you're trying to achieve is a Server only operation and you're adding this operation within the client code, which will run on a browser. Neither GAE allow this or GWT has the source of these classes nor capability to do so.
Solution
You need to create a request to your server that will access the DatastoreService , the return the output to the client code.
Below a example of a properly architect GWT web application:
Can someone help me out how I would go on about create documents to repository using soap createDocument.
I have a custom content model and and when I add a new document does not have the properties of the content model.
<ns:properties> <ns1:propertyId
propertyDefinitionId="cmis:objectTypeId">
<ns1:value>cmis:document</ns1:value>
<ns1:value>cms:customModel</ns1:value> </ns:properties>
Also I am looking to upload multiple attachments at time but right now I can't
<ns:contentStream>
<ns:mimeType>application/octet-stream</ns:mimeType>
<!-- Optional:-->
<ns:filename></ns:filename>
<ns:stream><xsl:copy-of select="//someelement"></xsl:copy-of></ns:stream>
</ns:contentStream>
any help on how I can get this working is greatly appreciated.
You should use OpenCMIS or a similar CMIS library instead of writing to the WS binding directly.
You appear to be attempting to set two values for cmis:objectTypeId. If you are trying to create an instance of cms:customModel, that should be the only value.
You aren't setting any custom property values in the snippets you provided.
To my knowledge, there is nothing in the spec allows you to provide multiple attachments simultaneously. You should get a single upload working first.
I've started investigating alternatives to my project and a few questions came out that I couldn't answer by myself.
The problem is: I want to create a web page able to access multiple Magento instances installed in the same server. Currently, I have one Magento instance per client and this project will access several Magneto instances to export reports from each one (for example).
The alternatives I thought til this moment are:
Have another Magento instance, create a new module within it that changes its 'database target' before triggering operations/queries;
Questions until this moment:
Can I 'change the database target' of a Magento instance?
How can I access data from a Magento instance without appeal to SOAP/REST?
I want to re-use some components (grids, tabs, forms..) from Magento, that's why I'm not considering an independent project (Zend, for instance) that can access this code from another projects. Does it make sense?
Any other idea?

Thanks by the tips and sorry by my ignorance. The comments let me believe that I'm able to execute something like this:
// File myScript.php
require '/home/DOMAIN1/app/Mage.php';
Mage::app('default');
// get some products from DOMAIN1
require '/home/DOMAIN2/app/Mage.php';
Mage::app('default');
// get some products from DOMAIN2
Is it right? Can I execute require twice (and override things from first require)?

I'm still trying to connect to several Magento instances from a single third party file. Is there any tip? I'm facing several/different errors at this moment.
The only thing I know is that I can still rely on SOAP to get the information I need, but this will be expensive.
Thanks!
The easiest way would be to include Mage.php from each shop instance. You would need to use namespaces or some other trickery to be able to load more then one.
Or if that doesn't work - make your own API in a separate file to get what you want from one shop, and combine the results in the PHP-file that calls the API.
Here's a sample on how to use Magento functionality outside of Magento:
require 'app/Mage.php';
if (!Mage::isInstalled()) {
echo "Application is not installed yet, please complete install wizard first.";
exit;
}
Mage::app()->setCurrentStore(Mage_Core_Model_App::ADMIN_STORE_ID);
// your custom code here, for example, get the product model..
$productModel = Mage::getModel('catalog/product');
My problem:
I have web project which implements NServicebus and should listen to messages.
Trying to keep my solution tidy I set up a different project for all my messagehandlers.
I now find that these messagehandlers do not get "hit" with messages.
To my understanding NServicebus scans all dll's in the debug folder of the web project to find any classes implementing IHandleMessages<>.
I referenced the messagehandlers class library project in my webproject and it appears in my debug folder, however it does not seem to get hit.
What does work
In a console sample project the inclusion of a referenced project which contains messagehandlers works as expected.
In my web app it works when I move my
messaghandlers to the web app project itself.
Reading through the website http://docs.particular.net/nservicebus/hosting/nservicebus-host/ I found that there are overloads for the Configure.With() method.
However:
I do not know if I need them. They text only seem to suggest that
this will limit the places where NServicebus looks for the
implementations of the interface.
these overloads do not exist in the Configure.WithWeb method which I'm using.
I can solve my problem by moving all the messagehandlers to my web project, but this does not seem like the best solution.
Am I missing something here?
When using NServiceBus in a web project, use NServiceBus.Configure.WithWeb() instead of NServiceBus.Configure.With().
Also, in order to load message handlers in a web application, you need to include the .LoadMessageHandlers() line after .UnicastBus() as described in Hosting NServiceBus in your own Process. Otherwise any IHandleMessages<T> implementations are not loaded and your web application operates as a send-only endpoint.
