I've older version of iphone SDK OS 3.1.3 and I created an app using that.
I prepared the app and ready for uploading to app store.
In app store, I created new application and provided all the necessary details. Its now showing "Waiting for upload". As my Mac don't have iPhone SDK OS 3.2 and above, apple's "Application Loader" is not installing.
So, I took my friends help and using his Mac which has latest iOS SDK 4.1 and also "Applicaton Loader" is installed on it. Now I copied the app's zip file to my friend's mac, logged into itunes connect account, started application loader. It says that "No eligible applications were found".
How should I upload my app now?
I can't build my app using latest SDk because, I'm using twitter and facebook libraries which are based on iOS 3.1.3, if i've to download them taht are compatible to iOS 4.1, i've to do all the testing again which can mess my code.
Someone please suggest how to upload my app?
Going to ask a few noddy questions, but they're always worth asking:
Have you created the new version of your application in Connect? That error normally means that the app loader can't find any application in iTunes connect that is expecting a binary upload.
Are you sure the application builder isn't using his developer account?
You're also going to hate this advice, but take the plunge and upgrade to 4.1. Yes you'll need to test your applications again, but that's a good thing. In my opinion it's easier to target 4.1 (which represents all future devices and a large portion of installed devices) and ensure it works for older operating systems than it is to fix on an obsolete OS and hope it still works for the latest and greatest.

I have strange problem. I developed app code signed it with Distribution provisioning profile which includes correct devices and sent it to Client. He installed via iTunes and there were no problems. Suddenly iTunes 11 was released and Client told me that he is unable to install app on his devices.
The situations looks like this:
authorizing computer
adding app to iTunes library
selecting app to sync/install on device
start synchronization
Synchronization goes to step 4 where message says thet apps to synchronization are prepared and synchronization ends showing in iTunes that app is installed on device. But on device there is no app. No error or any kind of message, nothing...
To make things more complicated I'm able to install app on my devices (I even borrowed iPad's, iPhones and one iPod touch from friends to check it). Although I'm not able to install it on one iPod Touch 4G. The app is compatible with iOS 5 and 6.
Any ideas?
Same issue i was facing, i don't why iTunes 11 has this strange behaviour. But i managed to sent my .ipa to client using, Diawi. You have to upload your .ipa over here and it'll generate a link which will pass to your client and it'll be download easily. So this is simple and nice solution without interacting with iTunes.
Similar situation to me. iTunes 11 (OSX 10.8) failed to install IPA file. Everything seems all right, but there is no app on device, iPhone4 iOS6.0.1 in this case.
But when I install app via Test Flight, installation works.
When I try to install same application on OSX 10.7, iTunes10, installation works fine.
Maybe is problem in iTunes artwork that has to be 1024x1024, I do not know.
I am trying to simulate an upgrade from version 2.0 to 2.1. I have version 2.0 hosted in testflight, so I did install it in my device. Then I tried running the app from xcode. However what happened is that the app did not get overlapped, instead it created two apps with the same name. How can I make it such that when I run the app from xcode it overlays the old version?
I've made sure that the bundle identifier is the same.
Well the info you can get while updating can be found # this link here.
when user updates an app, Documents folder is stored as is, including
NSUserDefaults (but, sometimes user download app via iTunes and
replace the whole application, crying 'OMG! update killed all my
levels progress!'); Application bundle is erased and replaced by new
one (anyway, it is readonly for user); Re-deployment of new build
version will be enough;
You can't access the appstore inside the simulator because: # link here
It's a simulator not an emulator. Even if there was an App Store in
the Simulator, none of the apps in the store would work since they are
compiled for ARM CPUs while the Simulator runs x86 code.
Another stack overflow # link here states:
Build and install your old version, generate some data, and then
install the new version on top of it.
For testing before submitting to the Appstore I generally download
from the AppStore again the old version, and then install with Xcode
the newer version - for your next update... ;-)
And another stack overflow (that I lost the link for) states:
No, the simulator runs i386 binaries and iPhone appstore apps are ARM
binaries apps.
iOS apps are compiled to machine code, Android apps are run in a
Virtual Machine using byte code and are translated to machine code at
the time they are run.
So no, I don't believe you can run it in the simulator, how ever you can have older projects saved on the iPhone and test both out. And the apple documentation is # this link here.
Read this: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/technotes/tn2285/_index.html
You cannot simulate update in XCode (neither in simulator or connected device). You have to create IPA file and simulate update process via iTunes.
I am beginner to PhoneGap app development. Below are my queries.
1. Is it possible to setup PhoneGap SDK without Xcode installation.
2. If YES then how to do same.
3. If NO then is there any way I can write a iphone application without Xcode installation(I dont want to pay 99$, because I m a begineer).
4. I have a MAC, Windows, Linux PCs. Tell me all the free SWs. Its ok if I am not able to test the application initially.

No.

XCode is free. It's in the AppStore. The $99 is to give you the ability to distribute applications in the AppStore and run it on a device. You will still be able to develop and run applications in an emulator for free.
I you don't want to install the dev environment, you can use their cloud service to build native apps written in HTML+CSS+Javascript. It's free and allows you to target all the supported platforms.
https://build.phonegap.com/
You only have to upload your finished app and get a compiled, native app.
As the the Question asks,
I currently sport xcode 3.2.3 with iOS 4.0.1 but I want to test on my iPhone which is stuck on 4.0.2
Thus I cannot do so until the SDK for 4.0.2 is accessible from xcode.
Where can I download a patch update from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 because the iPhone members page seems to only link me to the package including xcode 3.2.3 with iOS4.0.2 SDK
I don't want to download the whole thing because it's > 2.5 gigs and my New Zealand internet Connection is shizenhouzen.
I can't restore to a previous version, because for some reason I only have a previous back up of the iPhone on my now defunct windows PC.
I'm afraid you have to download the entire SDK - Apple do not provide 'patches' (4.0.1 to 4.02, for example) AFAIK, and I'd be nervous about downloading anything that claims it is a patch.
It's a common grumble, twitter is a fun place when apple push these .1 SDK updates out :)
You do have to download the whole thing to upgrade. It really sucks. :-(
I wish I could remember to download the SDK before upgrading my devices.
You can still build adhoc releases of your app and install them using itunes if you're in a real bind - it's just the debugger, console viewing and automatic installation of builds that won't work at all.
I've been putting off installing the 3.0 beta SDK in case I can't make apps to target 2.0. If I install 3.0 on my computer and iPhone, will I still be able to submit apps to the app store for users with 2.0 iPhones to download? Will I have to wait until 3.0 is released to submit more apps?
Actually, I suggest testing on OS 3.0 as it's a requirement your app doesn't break on the new OS.
"New iPhone applications will be
rejected unless they are ready for
Apple's forthcoming iPhone 3.0
firmware upgrade, developers have been
informed."
You can still build for 2.* but I can see how testing on only one device can make you nervous. There is no way to rollback to a previous OS once 3.0 has been installed. So, if this device is also your everyday cell phone, make sure you accept possible bugs. (though I haven't heard of any seriuous problems. OS 3.0 is worth it)
As for the issue you address. Apple says:
"iPhone SDK for iPhone 3.0 can not be
used for submitting iPhone OS 2.2.1
applications to the App Store."
I think they didn't express themselves too well. While technically spoken, they are right, you just have to select SDK for 2.2.1, and you're good to go.
Yes you can build 2.* apps. No you can't submit pre 3.0 apps to the app store. I can't paste the link for you since I am considered a new user, so just google "iPhone 3.0 app submit".
I understand that you wrote this a while ago and you've already accepted an answer, but I have some more advice:
You should install two copies of the SDK, the latest stable version (in "/Developer") and the latest beta version (in "/Developer Beta" or similar), as per these instructions.
For building 2.x applications, you set your "Base SDK" to 3.0 and your "iPhone OS Deployment Target" to 2.2.1, as per these instructions.
You can get it free or roll back if you do not like the new software at http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
download then follow these steps
1.) after it downloads open itunes and plugin your ipod/iphone
2.) Hold shift if on windows (Option key on mac) and then click resotre
3.) Select the ipod file and then wait for restore
4.) you will need to set up as new ipod (it will be slow if you restore from backup
The installation of the 3.0 SDK mentions weaklinked frameworks --
The Xcode UI now allows you to
designate a library or framework as
weaklinked, to support building with
newer SDKs while targeting older OS
versions.
I have yet to accomplish this, but will update once figured out.
