i hav a more buttons on my scrool view so if one of them clickrd i just want to highlight the button untill the any of the button clicked again....
so i just want to show the button in clicked mode......
thanks in advance.....
Set the button's highlighted property to YES:
myButton.highlighted = YES;
Use these two lines:
[myButton setBackgroundImage: [UIImage imageNamed:#"myImage.png"]];
myButton.highlighted = YES;
Dont use:
[myButton setImage: [UIImage imageNamed:#"myImage.png"]];
This will hide the highlighting of button.

I'm building a menu as a subclass of UIControl that opens when a user touches it and will close if a user doesn't choose one of its options.
I'm looking for a way to track when a user touches outside so that I can close the menu
Put one view behind your menu that cover whole area of your device with background of clear color. when your menu is open make that view visible. as it has same height and width as your device whenever you click outside the menu you can identify that view using TapGesture or make it UIControl. than call method to hide both your menu and that uiview.
Hope this will help.
What I really like to do is to make a big button that covers the entire view, and have it below the menu, or whatever else I want to touch away from and have something happen.
UIButton *bigBackButton = [[UIButton alloc]initWithFrame:self.view.frame];
[bigBackButton addTarget:self action:#selector(backButtonSelected) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchDown];
[bigBackButton setBackgroundColor:[UIColor colorWithRed:0 green:0 blue:0 alpha:0.5]];
[self.view addSubview:bigBackButton];
}
- (void)backButtonSelected:(UIButton *)button {
//get rid of the button
[button removeFromSuperview];
//do whatever else you need to do
[yourmenu dosomething];
}
on some apps, I'll make the button dark and translucent to highlight the menu, whatever else. Other times I'll make it pretty much invisible, like [UIColor colorWithWhite:1.0 alpha:0.01];
in your menu routine you could add these same routines. You could pass the frame of the parent view, or just look it up in the layoutSubviews routine, if your menu is a sublcass of a UIView.
in your layoutSubviews, add this:
UIButton *bigBackButton = [[UIButton alloc]initWithFrame:self.superview.frame];
[bigBackButton addTarget:self action:#selector(backButtonSelected) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchDown];
[bigBackButton setBackgroundColor:[UIColor colorWithRed:0 green:0 blue:0 alpha:0.5]];
[self.view addSubview:bigBackButton];
and then put the backButtonSelected method in your menu class as well.
Is it possible to make the navigationcontroller title a button? but without a button look to it. I want it to be just text that if you click on it a view/actionsheet pops up from the bottom
If so, can you show me programmatically how I would make it a button?
Thanks
You can set TitleView of navigationItem to set a button as title.
Here is what i tried and got it working:
UIButton*button=[UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect];
button.frame=CGRectMake(0, 0, 30, 20);
[button setTitle:#"Testing" forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(btnAction) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[[self navigationItem] setTitleView:button];
But if you don't want it to look like a button, you have set the buttonWithType to custom and set its backGroundImage property.
in btnAction have your code to show the pop ups.
i have this code in the button click to show selection image when the button is clicked
UIImage *img1 = [UIImage imageNamed:#"settingpress.png"];
[_btnclick setImage:img1 forState:(UIControlStateHighlighted+UIControlStateSelected)];
[img1 release];
but i didn't get the image ,my button is a UIButton in xib with custom button not the Roundrect.what is the error in my code.
thanks in advance.
You have to use background Image and the | separator:
[_btnclick setBAckgroundImage:img1 forState:(UIControlStateHighlighted|UIControlStateSelected)];
I'm trying to add subviews to a UIButton. This is working fine right now. But the button isn't clickable anymore as soon as I add the subviews.
I use the following code:
UIButton * button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
button.frame = CGRectMake(column*100+24, row*80+10, 64, 64);
[button addSubview:asyncImage];
[button addSubview:price];
[button addTarget:self
action:#selector(buttonClicked:)
forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
The button works again if I remove the 2 addSubview: methods. If anyone knows how to fix this it would be great!
I found a quick solutions. I needed to set the asyncImageView to the following:
asyncImage.userInteractionEnabled = NO;
asyncImage.exclusiveTouch = NO;
After this, it worked!
try:
[UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
instead of:
[UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonControlType];
The important thing here is to make sure that userInteractionEnabled will be set to NO. Fortunately it works immediately for UIImageView and UILabel (maybe for other subclasses of a UIView but those are the most popular subviews added to button) because by default for this classes it is set to NO by default. Unfortunately it is set to YES in UIView so make sure to change it in that case. Messing around with any other flags shouldn't be necessary. The nature of problem is that many people do not know that default value of this flag is different in subclasses.
Have you tried to put:
[asyncImage setUserInteractionEnabled:YES];
in the same sitiation i make this action:
inherit from UIButton and add all labels and imageview's of button to self, finally put new button to view as last subview and add targets of self button to this last button(also set backgroundColor to clearColor for transparent). now it will be clickable and works fine.
In Swift, test that is you have your UIButton blocked
uibtn.userInteractionEnabled = false
uibtn.exclusiveTouch = false
I added a label to the subview button.
For a very long time I was looking for why my text in the button is not clickable. Solution in this thread:
myLable.isUserInteractionEnabled = false
I have a UIBarButtonItem on a navigation bar. I'd like to make it arrow shaped. By that I mean I want it to be square except for a pointy side. Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks!
I wrestled with several approaches on this one and finally figured it out using all the answers from several sources. There are a couple of tricks; this snippet will show it all (I was creating a custom rightNavButton, but you can adapt this easily for any UIBarButtonItem):
// Produces a nice "right arrow" style button that mirrors the back arrow
// automatically added by the navController
//
UIImage *buttonImage = [UIImage imageNamed:#"forwardButton.png"];
UIButton *forwardButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[forwardButton setBackgroundImage:buttonImage forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[forwardButton setTitle:#"Meter" forState:UIControlStateNormal];
forwardButton.font = [UIFont boldSystemFontOfSize:12];
forwardButton.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, buttonImage.size.width, buttonImage.size.height);
[forwardButton addTarget:self action:#selector(showMeter)
forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc]
initWithCustomView:forwardButton];
Note: it turns out that if you try to set the target and action directly on the button item after assigning a custom view using a UIButton that it won't take - you have to set the target and action on the button itself - apparently the navBar uses the button provided verbatim.
This is the image I was using on the opaque black navBar (you can use anything, obviously): http://raretiger.com/images/forwardbutton.png
Make a custom background. See Creating a left-arrow button (like UINavigationBar's "back" style) on a UIToolbar for how.
You may -pushNavigationItem:animated: to make the built-in back button appear, although you cannot assign custom actions to it.
For undocumented methods, you may use
UIButton* backButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:101];
to create a back "button".
You could create an UIImageView or an UIButton with the required image then use:
[[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView: arrowButton];
Hope this helps.
continuing on #Plamen Dragozov's idea: i noticed if you leave the uibutton as is, it would trigger a picture adjustment when touched and that is quite the opposite what a normal navigation back button does. So what I did was to uncheck "highlighted adjusts Image" and it works like a charm.
hope this helps newbies like me.
More elegant solution:
UIBarButtonItem * backButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:#"Title" style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:self action:#selector(back:)];
[backButtonItem setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"back.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal barMetrics:UIBarMetricsDefault];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = backButtonItem;
My problem was renaming the back button that appears on the pushed view controller. I found a dirty workaround and if you ignore the non-ideal animation problem, you'll get a back button with the title you want.
The trick is to change the title of the first VC in viewWillDisappear and re-set it of course in viewWillAppear
(Needless to say, by default, if there is no leftBarButtonItem set, UINavigationController will show a back button with the title of the VC that pushed the current VC)
In the VC where you push your current VC, do
-(void) viewWillDisappear:(BOOL) animated {
[super viewWillDisappear:animated];
self.title = #"Back";
}
-(void) viewWillAppear:(BOOL) animated {
[super viewWillAppear:animated];
self.title = #"Original Title";
}
