Hey guys
Our application runs on Jboss/Apache Tomcat and the app is build on Java.
I was wondering if theres a free app out there that let us monitor our log files which are in text format whenever a Jboss exceptions shows up in the log???
At the moment we are using a tail (called BareTail) application that highlights the errors for us and someone has to keep an eye on it.
Any help appreciated thanks.

Since you're using JBoss you also want to take a look at monitoring with JBoss Operations Network (JON) or RHQ the community equivalent to JON.
Some other log monitoring tools/solutions are Chainsaw, Graylog2, Scribe, Lilith, Syslog-ng and Clarity.

Check this free opensource monitoring tool Hyperic.
Among many things it does, log monitoring is one thing.
You can install agents on the servers and configure them and this Log server will collect the information and the logs can be viewed using a webbrowser.
Other tools are Splunk, Tivoli Log Monitoring

I recently noticed that mi dashDB entry plan under a dedicated ibm cloud environment has been sunset. I read an article that said that, but i had not been informed previously, so i lost my two databases (production, and testing).
Does anyone know what i should do in this case? I have a lot of sensible data inside them, and i didn´t have any problem about changing the plan, but i don´t know how to do it because i cannot get inside the console (it doesn´t work anymore). Is there any way to recover my databases? Thanks.

I am a beginner in programming and I decided to take the Stanford online Intro to Programming Methodology course (cs106a). I followed the instructions and unzipped the Eclipse files onto my computer. When I tried to open it, it said "An error has occurred, see log file. " I am not sure how to fix this and I really want to learn this program. I searched other similar questions and only one was found and the suggested solution was to set environmental variables. Unfortunately, I don't know how to do that.
How can I get Eclipse running?
There could be numerous possibilities.
But first start with these.
(1) Are you using a 32 or 64 bit computer? Then you must use the Eclipse that is designed for your system.
(2) Do you have JDK installed? It's on Oracle website.
(3) Is your OS in good shape? As in did you or other programs mess around registry?
Hope this helps.

Message from wepage popups in my yahoo email account. I need to x the box several times to unfreeze my computer. Then, it keeps popping up. And this occcurs before I even open any mail. exact message: "message from webp, then hi, then 40401508, then 1"
Any suggestion to get ride of it?
Run any anti-virus or anti-malware utility of your choosing on your computer. Follow any instructions that it provides on how to clean and remove whatever cruft is causing this. There are lots of free versions available online, but you should consider purchasing a subscription to a well-regarded utility from a reputable company. These days, browsing the Internet without protection is just asking for trouble!
If that doesn't work, the next step is backing up your important data, erasing your computer's disk, and re-installing your operating system from scratch. It sounds drastic, but it's really not all that bad. Plus, it will fix any other problems you've been having and probably speed up your machine noticeably.

I have a ubuntu server which handles mail via postfix. The server has recently been caned by spam emails and the mail logs are really large as a consequence. The logs are stored with timestamps and I was just wondering if I can just clear out the old logs without consequence to recover some disk space?
Also, being none-too-clever about such things, I am struggling to see where to change the settings for log rotation and deletion... any clues from more knowledgable folks?
Is this a question for serverfault.com ? If not, try logrotate.
According to man logrotate:
logrotate is designed to ease administration of systems that generate large
numbers of log files. It allows automatic rotation, compression, removal, and
mailing of log files. Each log file may be handled daily, weekly, monthly, or
when it grows too large.

I'm looking to run a Jabber server on a Windows 2003 server(web farm) and like some practical advice from anyone who has run a live environment with ~500 concurrent users.
Criteria for comment:
Performance
Capacity (ie ~number of concurrent users)
Stability
OpenFire is a good gpl java implementation of a jabber server.
It has plenty of option plugins you can use and it can intergrate quite well with Active Directory OpenFire
I think you're going to need to be a bit more explicit - you looking for server configurations, or software e.g. Jabber Server?
If you're thinking Jabber server, EJabberD is probably the most stable, flexible, capable of being clustered etc.
Really useful comparison of Open Source servers here...
