How do you add a static image (.png) as soon as the iPhone application starts before loading the content of the application. In other words, I want an introduction image. I can't figure out the code required to do this.
Thanks in advance!
Just create an image and name id Default.png. It appears while the app is loading.

I'm building a game for the iphone, and the main window displays an image in the background describing the game, and I have few other layers of images which are the buttons such as Start New Game, Options and Help.
Should the launch image be only the background image describing the game without the extra image layers or should it be image including the other layers which are Start New Game, Option and Help?
Thanks.
The bit covering launch images can be found here. Below is an example launch image (left) provided by Apple.
Their docs specifically site concerns about localization, so it's probably best to do without the text and provide an image that just has your background chrome for the view.
The launch image should give the illusion of a really fast launching of your app. So the better image in your case is an hybrid of your proposal.
You should have the background image describing the game with the extra image layers without the text inside your buttons (Start new game, etc.) If you include the text, the user could think that your app is loaded and would tap on it.
Hope this helps
All the Apple guidelines on launch images are available here (scroll down to "Launch Images" section). It seems like the convention is to show buttons but not table view data, based on the examples show and from observing other Apple apps.
It's probably up to you to determine which looks better. I have seen many apps on the app store that totally ignore all of these things you aren't supposed to do:
An “application entry experience,” such as a splash screen
An About window
Branding elements, unless they are a static part of your application’s first screen
So I don't think it's that important for App Store acceptance, but it is very important for user experience.
I was wondering how to go about creating an image app for the iphone. I know how to create an iphone app. I was just wondering what the best way to make an image app is. I want the user to be able to import an image, and then the app will add an effect to it like blur it or tint it or warp it. How can I do this? I've been searching forever. Please help.
I encourgae you to look into a few image processing libraries for iOS that are out there. A search on Google will return a few options..
Here's one > http://mobileorchard.com/a-simple-iphone-image-processing-library/
You should also look into the sample code provided by Apple on GLImageProcessing > http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#samplecode/GLImageProcessing/Introduction/Intro.html
Regarding importing pictures into your app; there are several examples out there on how to do so through the UIIMagePickerController. Here's one >

iam developing an app in which, images are to be scrolled on touchesmove i.e, swipping left /right.
I also have to display previous and next images beside present image in protrait mode.
I have seen the covertFlow sample, which is very close to my app, but i want it in horizontal mode. Please suggest me how can i acheive it , links related to it can also be helpful for me..
thanks in advance.
Well how about taking the open source CoverFlow implementation and modify it to work in portrait mode?
You can get sample code in this tapku Library
I solved my query and it is working without using any libraries.
I used the concept of lazyloading to download images, and i placed the images in scrollview which helps to scroll the images.
The following link used to load images asynchronously.

I have a fullscreen iphone web app that has a startup screen that works. I am trying to figure out how to get this image looking better on the iP4, but if I change the size from 320x460 it simply will not load.
Anyone find a solution yet?
Thanks,
Peter
You need to have a second image with the ending #2x.
For example, if your startup image is named Default.png, your high-rest image should be named Default#2x.png
