If u want to run any application of previous version of xcode in new version then click on project tab and select edit project settings. You get new window in which u change the base sdk type and select latest know ios. After that you again click on project tab then click on edit target settings and again change base sdk settings and set as latest known ios. After that in editor windoe change base sdk simulator.
It will work .

I am actually trying to run my application in 4.3 simulator from xCode 4.6. I copy the sdk for simulator 4.3 at the path, it builds successfully but cant run the application in simulator. So now what can I do to solve the problem?
Thank you in advance
If you are using Mac OS 10.7.x and have upgraded to Xcode 4.6, then you could have or download simulator 4.3 version. But, if you are using Mac OS 10.8.x, then you can not have simulator 4.3 version. The reason is 4.3 simulator on Mac OS 10.8.x crashed a lot, so Apple has removed that.
Check this link:- http://iphonedevsdk.com/forum/iphone-sdk-development/111568-what-happened-to-the-ios-4-3-simulator-in-xcode-4-6.html
Go to Xcode -> Preferences -> Downloads and make sure the "Target SDK" you have selected in your project is in fact installed under the Downloads windows. For me this magically was uninstalled. Once i installed the SDK that my app was using, all worked again
Also Check
Xcode>Preferences> click Downloads tab. The supported simulators are in there.
Please try this and let me inform any problem still exists.
Go to Xcode -> Preferences -> Downloads -> Components
There you can see the list of simulators (v4.3 also there). Click on install against the simulator that you want to install.
After Installation, restart Xcode
Go to the project info and set your build target to iOS Version 4.3
Now the simulator version 4.3 will be listed in your schema selector.
Cheers :)
Note: If you are using Mac 10.8, you cannot have 4.3 simulator
When I click my iPhone into the USB port, I hear the clicking sound and on my project it shows checking dd symbols and a little progress bar appears. But, when I click on the drop down list, upper right hand corner, my device does not show up, still says any iOS device. When I click debug, a box comes up saying xcode cannot run using using the selected device.
"No provisioned iOS devices are available with a compatible iOS version. Connect an iOS device with a recent enough version of iOS to run your application or choose an iOS simulator as the destination"
I checked to see what sdk version my project was using, it is 5.1.
On the organizer it says my iPhone is using software version 5.0.1.1,
Questions,
Do I have to upgrade my iPhone to 5.1?
I went to iTunes to upgrade it and they only had a option for 5.1.1, if I upgrade it to 5.1.1, will it still work with my xcode which has sdk 5.1 not 5.1.1
Any idea how to get my iPhone to work with the new projects created?
Also, the old projects are using sdk 5.1 and they run fine, could it be a different problem?
Just set the "Deployment Target" for targets and project to your device version.
To do this, click the project in the navigator -> info for project and summary for targets. There you find the deployment target.
Hope this helps
Try run a any XCode 3. And open him Organizer. Then will show a question about Collecting device. Press and reconnect a device. Must help. This helps in my case :)
I installed Xcode 4.2 and it only has iOS SDK version 5 under /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS5.0.sdk. However, my iOS Deployment Target is specified as iOS 4.0. The problem is that I cannot launch my app in the iOS Simulator if the version of the Simulator is lower than 5.0. That is, the program crashes under those:
iPhone 4.0 Simulator
iPhone 4.1 Simulator
iPhone 4.2 Simulator
iPhone 4.3 Simulator
Before I had Xcode 4.0 and everything worked correctly under all of the above simulators. Now the only working version is iPhone 5.0 Simulator.
Am I doing something wrong? How do I test my app on older iOS versions? Is it even possible with Xcode 4.2?
UPDATE: It all started working after I changed the compiler from LLVM GCC 4.2 to Apple LLVM compiler 3.0. But I'm still interested if anyone knows how to fix the stuff with the old compiler.
You must download in Components : iOS 4.0 and 4.1 Debugging Support and iOS Simulator for 4.x
You can update Deployment Target to iOS 5 because it's a later version of SDK that "knows" all about 4-version. Keep in mind that if no debug build if SDK < OS.
Yes it is possible you can install the older version of IOS SDK
Download xcode_3.2.6_and_ios_sdk_4.3.dmg
Mount the .dmg file Inside the disk image there is an invisible "Packages" folder.
To open it select "Go to folder..." command from Finder menu bar and digit the path "/Volumes/Xcode and iOS SDK/Packages/"
Now double-click "iPhoneSimulatorSDK4_2.pkg"
Click into the destination disk and a button "Select folder..." will be revealed
Click the above button and select your "Developer" folder
Install and Restart Xcode.
This will install the Simulator 4.2 SDK (both iPad and iPhone) inside the folder "/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/"
Now inside XCode 4.2 you can select this simulator from the menu.
I got this from following link and it works for me..

I have iOs version 3.2.3 version. now i have installed 4.2 version in my system but when i open my xcode it shows the previous version of iOs...
Even when i go and edit the project settings, i dont get the 3.2.5 version in the drop down to select.
why this happening...
please help me out
That version number is actually the Xcode version number, not the iOS version number. Select "About Xcode" from the Xcode dropdown, and you'll see 3.2.5.
If you want to change the iOS version to the new one (I'm guessing 4.2?) try opening up the Target Info (or the Project Settings), and setting the Base SDK to the version you want. (You can also set the Deployment Target to the minimum version you want to support, as discussed here.
Once you do this, select the new SDK from the dropdown menu at the top left, and you should be good to go.
Please open Xcode then from
Xcode-> About Xcode ->Version 3.2.5 (Check out the version here)
If its still not showing please check out whether the xcode setup is successfully done. Try rebooting your mac.
P.S: For Installing Xcode 3.2.5 you need to update your Mac OS to 10.6.5
Also iOS version number will be 4.2 and not 3.2.5 i.e your iPhone/iPAd version whether be device or simulator.. So in dropdown if you see 4.2 then your setup is done successfully..
hAPPY iCODING...
Looks like you have two installations of SDK and XCode on your machine. This can happen if you have changed the installation location while installing the SDK. Hope that helps.
I have installed the new 3.0 SDK, but when I start up Xcode, I don't see an option to build for "Device - iPhone OS 3.0" or "Simulator - iPhone OS 3.0"
The Xcode About box says I am running: 3.1.2
Is there something else I have to do?
I think you need to upgrade to Xcode 3.1.3. I have the latest version and that's what my About box reads.
If you are sure you downloaded the latest version, perhaps you installed in to a different location?
If you are using an existing project you may have to tell your project to build to the 3.0 targets. I didn't have to do this for any of my projects but ...
Under the Deployment section of your project properties you should see:
iPhone OS Deployment Target - (change this to use iPhone OS 3.0)
You can also check that the Architectures section has the Base SDK set to 3.0.
This happens quite often when downloading Apple's sample code projects which are targeted for iOS 3.x but you've got iOS 4.x.
To show Simulator option go to Project Info window -> General tab -> Base SDK for All Configurations - choose Latest iOS.
If it doesn't appear straight away, close and reopen Xcode.
This is what worked for me:
I clicked on the box (where I expected iPhone Simulator to be shown), right clicked manage scheme. After that deleted all schemes, and in similar way, created a new scheme. It automatically produced all simulators including the ones for devices.
