I am actually trying to run my application in 4.3 simulator from xCode 4.6. I copy the sdk for simulator 4.3 at the path, it builds successfully but cant run the application in simulator. So now what can I do to solve the problem?
Thank you in advance
If you are using Mac OS 10.7.x and have upgraded to Xcode 4.6, then you could have or download simulator 4.3 version. But, if you are using Mac OS 10.8.x, then you can not have simulator 4.3 version. The reason is 4.3 simulator on Mac OS 10.8.x crashed a lot, so Apple has removed that.
Check this link:- http://iphonedevsdk.com/forum/iphone-sdk-development/111568-what-happened-to-the-ios-4-3-simulator-in-xcode-4-6.html
Go to Xcode -> Preferences -> Downloads and make sure the "Target SDK" you have selected in your project is in fact installed under the Downloads windows. For me this magically was uninstalled. Once i installed the SDK that my app was using, all worked again
Also Check
Xcode>Preferences> click Downloads tab. The supported simulators are in there.
Please try this and let me inform any problem still exists.
Go to Xcode -> Preferences -> Downloads -> Components
There you can see the list of simulators (v4.3 also there). Click on install against the simulator that you want to install.
After Installation, restart Xcode
Go to the project info and set your build target to iOS Version 4.3
Now the simulator version 4.3 will be listed in your schema selector.
Cheers :)
Note: If you are using Mac 10.8, you cannot have 4.3 simulator

I have upgraded my iPhone to iOS 6, however I am currently on Xcode 4.2 (on Snow Leopard). Now I am getting this error message:
The version of iOS on “xxx xxx” does not match any of the versions of
iOS supported for development with this installation of the iOS SDK.
Please restore the device to a version of the iOS listed below, or
update to the latest version of the iOS.
Is it possible to restore my iPhone to older version say 5.1 or some how make my Xcode to support/recognize iOS6?
I followed the following steps, to resolve my issue by making Xcode to support iOS 6:
1.First download Xcode 4.5 .dmg file from Here (You would need developer account).
2.Then mount this image and use "Show Package Contents" from context menu.
3.Then copy the following folder
Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/6.1
(10A403)
to your mac's following folder (This path may differ from mac to mac based on its version. On Snow Leopard you may find the Developer folder in Finder under PLACES section, and probably on Lion, you have to right click the Xcode.app and have to use Show Package Contents):
Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport
4.Similarly copy the iOS 6 SDK folder from following directory:
Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS6.0.sdk
to your mac's following folder
Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs
5.Also copy version.plist from Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform folder to your mac's Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform folder.
6.Re-start Xcode and re-connect the device(s).
Bingo !! now Xcode supports recognizes iOS6 device(s) and even I am able to run and debug my app (built for older SDKs) on my iPhone with iOS6 (I am not sure about iPhone 6.0 simulator though).
However, answer to How to restore iPhone to older version say 5.1 is still pending.
You cant debug iO6 device in Xcode 4.2. iO6 device debugs only in Xcode 4.5 (latest one). And most importent for installing Xcode 4.5, in your machine must have at least Lion Operating System. For efficiently debugging of iOS device, You must upgrade your OS.
I had the exactly same problem !
Downgrading iOS 6 in your iPhone is not officially supported by Apple anymore :
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4533316?start=0&tstart=0
What works for me was to install Lion in an external HD USB, upgrade Xcode to the latest version and upgrade the Provisioning Profiles in my Apple Developer account for this environment.
Upgrade to Xcode 4.5 (and OSX mountain lion). No previous version of Xcode supports iOS 6. You can also check if you can restore your phone using a previous version of iOS by getting the .ipsw file and option-clicking on "restore" button when selecting your device on iTunes.
I'm using XCode's latest version on Mountain Lion and would like to test my Apps for iOS 4.3.
How can I adjust the simulator or install previous versions of XCode to test for iOS 4.3 in stead of testing for 5.1 only?
Within my XCode preference -> Downloads I'm not able to see the 4.3 simulator
EDIT:
I manually copied the folder of the iPhone 4.3 SDK from an old iMac which had an old XCode running to my working computer. Turned out that this fix only worked for device testing and not for testing in the simulator. So I needed to have an old device with iOS 4.3 installed, this eventually worked.
You need to install the 4.3 simulator.
Go to "Preferences" in Xcode and then the "Downloads" tab and you may see this:
I made this screenshot on my 10.7 machine but looking at the (supposedly) identical Xcode install on 10.8, I only see the 5.0 simulator as an installable option. It may be that you have to install the 5.0 simulator before the 4.3 one appears, or 4.3 is only supported on Lion.
I am currently on Xcode 4.2.1 and I am running an IPad 1 using 5.0.1. However, I am getting this error message:
The version of iOS on “Personal iPad” does not match any of the
versions of iOS supported for development with this installation of
the iOS SDK. Please restore the device to a version of the OS listed
below, or update to the latest version of the iOS SDK; which is
available here.

5.0.1 (9A405)
Xcode Supported iOS Versions
That's right! It is giving me absolutely no supported iOS versions. I have seen other posts about this for older versions of Xcode/IOS, but they also had supported versions.
Edit: I can run the program just fine in the iOS device simulator. It runs in IOS 5. Also, my provisioning profiles are listed under the device and they have matched my certificate in the KeyChain.
Ok! I downloaded the installer program for XCode. Uninstalled XCode and reinstalled it through the installer program and it works like a charm.
So, I ran this to uninstall it:
sudo /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools –mode=all
Then I just used the installer from the App Store and now it works just fine with my iPad.
Thanks.
I didn't need to uninstall xcode.
just start the installer and press "update"...
For those who wan't to avoid upgrading Xcode, do the following:
Download the Xcode version dmg containing the iOS SDK you need
Make sure Xcode is not running
Double click the downloaded Xcode dmg, right click the Xcode.app icon, choose "Show Package Content"
Copy Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/ to /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs (on you local machine)
Copy Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/ to /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer (on you local machine)
Copy Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/ to /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport (on you local machine)
Right click Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/, choose "Make Alias", rename the alias to "Latest"
Start Xcode
I installed Xcode 4.2 and it only has iOS SDK version 5 under /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS5.0.sdk. However, my iOS Deployment Target is specified as iOS 4.0. The problem is that I cannot launch my app in the iOS Simulator if the version of the Simulator is lower than 5.0. That is, the program crashes under those:
iPhone 4.0 Simulator
iPhone 4.1 Simulator
iPhone 4.2 Simulator
iPhone 4.3 Simulator
Before I had Xcode 4.0 and everything worked correctly under all of the above simulators. Now the only working version is iPhone 5.0 Simulator.
Am I doing something wrong? How do I test my app on older iOS versions? Is it even possible with Xcode 4.2?
UPDATE: It all started working after I changed the compiler from LLVM GCC 4.2 to Apple LLVM compiler 3.0. But I'm still interested if anyone knows how to fix the stuff with the old compiler.
You must download in Components : iOS 4.0 and 4.1 Debugging Support and iOS Simulator for 4.x
You can update Deployment Target to iOS 5 because it's a later version of SDK that "knows" all about 4-version. Keep in mind that if no debug build if SDK < OS.
Yes it is possible you can install the older version of IOS SDK
Download xcode_3.2.6_and_ios_sdk_4.3.dmg
Mount the .dmg file Inside the disk image there is an invisible "Packages" folder.
To open it select "Go to folder..." command from Finder menu bar and digit the path "/Volumes/Xcode and iOS SDK/Packages/"
Now double-click "iPhoneSimulatorSDK4_2.pkg"
Click into the destination disk and a button "Select folder..." will be revealed
Click the above button and select your "Developer" folder
Install and Restart Xcode.
This will install the Simulator 4.2 SDK (both iPad and iPhone) inside the folder "/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/"
Now inside XCode 4.2 you can select this simulator from the menu.
I got this from following link and it works for me..
https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/31412/how-can-i-install-iphone-simulator-4-2-on-xcode-4-2
I have a project build to work with iPhone 3* and 4. Base SDK is set to 4. Target OS is set to 3. I have an iPhone 3GS with 3.1.3.
Xcode 3.2.3 refuses to install the app on this iPhone. It refuses also to run the simulator.
WHen I try to debug on the device I get "Failed to upload". When I try to debug on the simulator I get a message telling me that "simulator could not find the sdk"...
Any clues?
thanks
I have resolved partially the issue changing the compiler from GCC 4.2 to LLVM GCC 4.2.
Don't ask me why, but now I can install the application on my 3GS running 3.1.3.
The question is: why GCC 4.2 is not working.
At least the solution for this question is this.
To expand on Jason Coco's answer: If
you go to the Project Info screen and
click Build, you can choose what Base
SDK to use (4.0) and then scroll down
to iPhone OS Deployment Target version
and set it to 3.1.3 or whatever.
However, you also have to go to the
Targets section under Groups & Files
(red bullseye) select your target and
get the Info build page, and set your
iPhone OS Deployment Target there too.
Did you do that also? (from the link posted)
