We are using Redmine. The mysql adapter segfaults in the mornings when the first Redmine operation is attempted, e.g. clicking on the Projects menu. Redmine works perfectly after Webrick is manually restarted.
The problem is that the mysql gem was compiled against MySQL 5.0, but we are using a later MySQL version. This is what I learned on the official Redmine issue tracker. For the moment, I am not going to attempt to recompile against our version.
I have a vbscript script that can restart the server during the very early hours of the morning. The vbscript script runs a batch file containing ruby script/server webrick -e production which can start webrick, but if webrick is already running, the script does not make a difference. I need a command that can stop the server.
I had a similar issue when installed on a windows system - after 8 hours of activity, the mysql adapter would segfault.
The fix was to place an other mysql binary in the ruby\bin.
The issue is described in the forum, and the link to an other dll is provided in the installation manual.
On a side note, but not really related to this issue: The question is tagged webrick, be aware that you should run redmine on mongrel instead of webrick. The above linked wiki page also says:
It is not recommended to use webrick for anything other than
development.

I am attempting to install PgBouncer on my computer with no success. In the installation page, im told that PgBouncer has two dependencies GNU Make 3.81+ and libevent 2.0. Never having used or heard of these two software before, Im completely lost.
I have read a little on both but have yet to find or fully understand what they actually do and how they will help me set up PgBouncer. From what I've read, PgBouncer does not come compiled for windows and I need the other two to compile it. I have searched for tutorials online but it seems that im falling into a black hole of misunderstanding.
Im looking for a simple explanation on how to install PgBouncer or how these software work with one another. Thanks.
If anyone now searches the binaries because http://winpg.jp/~saito/pgbouncer is offline now, check out my page under https://sepppenner.github.io/PgBouncerWinBinaries/. I have all the binaries from the Saito page but didn't yet succeed to build the project on my own. If anyone has ideas, don't hesitate to contact me here or on Github :)
EDIT: I'm now able to build pgbouncer for windows just having some issues with the pandoc thing (Follow https://github.com/pgbouncer/pgbouncer/issues/442). I will provide binaries soon. The instructions are already online under the page listed above :)
Im looking for a simple explanation on how to install PgBouncer
A little late, but if you use the EDB installer for PostgreSQL, as linked on postgresql.org (https://www.postgresql.org/download/windows/), you can install Stack Builder. From inside Stack Builder, PgBouncer can be installed (EDB build).
Unfortunately, it's not the latest version. Now, PgBouncer 1.17.0 is available and Stack Builder provides 1.16.1.
Personally, I don't understand why the PgBouncer project doesn't just offer a Windows build. So everybody would be able to get the latest release.
I have not messed with pgbouncer in years but have had multiple comments on what I did to solve my problem.
In the link bellow is the pgbouncer build I last used on my project. From what I remember, all you would need to do is replace the users in the config/user.txt with yours and go into config/pgbouncer.ini and change the configuration to work with your set up. To start it, just run the run.bat file or pgbouncer.exe config/pgbouncer.iniin the cmd prompt. You want to download everything in the folder.

I read that it was impossible to install yii2 on a standard hosting platform (redhat, centos...) without deleting the AssetManager.
And install is lock with it. Access refused, permission denied.... Despite the rights 777 on the assets folder.
And in default way, hack code, disable control like (is_writable) to allow continued the install process to congratulation, but without css ....
But I can't modify all the code , to use it?
They're a lot of issue about assetmanager.
I tried yii1 few years ago, and it was wonderful framework... But everything is permitted under windows. Someone tried to install it under redhat, fedora, Centos.
There is a specific configuration ... Or yii2 not builted and designed for theses environments ?
Because i found tuto about laravel 5.1, Zend 2 since 2013... But nothing about Yii2, and only one... about Yii1... on this hosting OS.
Yii2 is ready for professionnel standard hosting environnement or is just for hobbist with Wamp under Windows ? (Online tuto is in majority on this OS, with Wamp...).
And maybe for that, it's work fine... like i test under windows
Thank you for the links. I had read
Finally I found the answer, which is never explained in the tutorial above (because often disabled and the module is not present in Ubuntu or Debian)
It's SELinux security. To install Yii2 there are the following commands:
semanage fcontext -a -t httpd_sys_rw_content_t 'each folder writable'
setsebool -P httpd_unified 1
Without this open rignt, you can't install Yii2
All what Yii 2.0 requires is a Web server supporting PHP 5.4 or above.
( currently not PHP 7 due to reserved word conflict that will be solved in future releases )
And yes 5 stables versions ready for production has been released, currently Yii 2.0.5
Here is a quick example about how to install Yii2 with CentOS6 which has nothing different from what is already described in the official docs.
If you know any CentOS related issue please post them and we will discuss answers, because sincerely i just did few searches and didn't found any besides few wrong apache or nginx configurations or missing packages like this CentoOS7 case. Otherwise if you need a pre-configured & working VM with Yii2 and CentOS 7, then you may check this vagrant repo.
I've made a Go app and when I run the exe locally it works fine. Where would I upload this to on my VPS? public_html/domain.com/somefolder ? or /usr/somefolder with SSH?
I have my app, my .exe and src-files, but what do I do with it when I deploy online on my VPS? I haven't been able to find a tutorial about this, so I hope you can help me.
do I upload all files in my src folder including the binaries from when I've written "go build"?
upload to where on my VPS? using ssh or cpanel / ftp program or what?
What are the steps from "go build" on your own local windows 8 computer to uploading and running it online on a linux server?
Ps.
Additionally will CentOS 5.1.1 although not supported https://golang.org/doc/install - allow for me to run an already linux compiled go program on my VPS, and does it only mean that I cannot install Go and do compilation on the CentOS 5.x server? Would CentOS 5.1.1 explain the "segmentation fault" error shh gives me when running the command "./[filename]"?
Well, usually, you would:
Copy the binary you created + all resource files (html, css, images, ...)
(optionally the source code as well)
Have a way to ensure the program keeps running
crontab can be used to check if your program is alive, but a simple monitoring program would suffice as well (which you can write yourself)
Run the binary as a non-privileged user
(you can also combine it with something like Docker if you want)
It does not make sense to put it inside public_html/domain.com/somefolder, as it is not public html code. You'd want your files somewhere they cannot be accessed unless using the application/binary you created.
My apologies for not having neat source links to my story. However, this does seem like the best thing to do.
Another important note:
Even though your VPS may run Windows, you can also deploy linux binaries to a Linux VPS (which are drastically cheaper) - looking at this SO question.
A short note I wrote on writing golang app on osx and deploying on Linux server: http://kumargaurav.co/2016/08/10/deploy-go-lang-app-linux-server/
I've developed a OSGi application on my windows machine that is just lovely. How ever I need it to run on my Linux server and this is where I run into problems.
My application has no GUI. It simple works with a console and is command line driven.
My first attempt at deployment I built a product based on my existing run target. It exported fine to a Windows .exe so I added the required delta packs for Linux. The problem with this is it has only two options Linux (GTK) and Linux (MOTIF). My linux server runs on CentOS with no GUI as it is a hosted machine so when I try and deploy it I get a segmentation fault.
I have been searching around as to what to do but I'm not coming up with any answers.
Any help would be much appreciated. I have been banging my head on this one for over a week
Cheers
The google keyword you need is 'xvfb' - it acts like an X server, but ignores everything sent to it, so you don't need any graphics hardware. Try firing that up (make sure you set DISPLAY appropriately).
A cleaner solution would be to figure out why the library is demanding an X server if it works without - perhaps you could update the question with more details.
I'm trying to install PGSQL 8.3 (and 8.4 and 9.0) on my work laptop. At the end of the installation, the installer complains it can't init the cluster. Investigating more, I noticed that the service is not even installed. I did use the "OneClick Installer", not the pgAdmin stand alone install. I tried installing as Administrator and as a regular user. In all the cases, the pgsql system account is created and the files copied, but the service is not.
I successfully installed PGSQL many times on my home PC. Both the laptop and desktop use Windows 7 64 bits (former is Professional, later is Ultimate). The only differences I can think of are that the laptop is part of an Active Directory and uses McAfee, while the desktop is only on a workgroup and uses Windows Security Essentials.
Are you sure the postgres user is allowed to create files in the data directory? The installer defaults to putting the data directory where the binaries are installed (e.g. c:\Program Files) which is usually not writeable by a regular user (and I never understood why the installer contains such an idiotic default).
McAffee could be an issue though. I have heard several stories about virus scanners infering with the Postgres (or other DBMS). Can you turn McAffee off - at least for the data directory?
Another problem could be that the installer is not able to create the postgres windows user (that is used to run the service).
If you are a local administrator on that machine, try to create the user before the installer does it. The installer will then not try to create the user account.
As a last ressort, you could install PostgreSQL without the installer (this is what I usually do).
Download the ZIP file from http://www.enterprisedb.com/products-services-training/pgbindownload
Unzip it into a convenient location
Run initdb (make sure you do that using the postgres user account - the one that is used to run the service later!)
run pg_ctlr register to create the Windows service
If any of those steps fails you'll see a proper error message which is not always the case with the installer.
Anti-virus is a well known issue:
http://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/Running_&_Installing_PostgreSQL_On_Native_Windows#Antivirus_software
PostgreSQL connection problems
(answer is from one the core developers)
Postgresql 8.4 and BitDefender 11
With earlier versions of PostgreSQL, I found I had to delete the user "postgres" before reinstalling would work. Not sure what versions had that problem, though.
