How do I export my code into an app file? (iPhone) - iphone

I followed some simple "make your first iPhone app" guide.
I tried it in a emulator, and it worked fine, but how can I create the .app (or whatever the extension is) file?

You can either build it for distribution, or archive it, open the Organizer, and share it with the .ipa extension. I don't think .app is possible.

Xcode will automatically make the app for you. Look under products

Running .app file on iPhone Simulator

So I built my project and I have a .app file from my BUILD location. How can I run this on my simulator without using Xcode ?
I dont not wish to grab the .app file from iPhone Simulator files and pass it to another person. What I require is that, as soon as my .app file is built, I wish to use it to run in the iPhone simulator.
Any tricks ??
The excellent tool ios-sim does exactly what you want.
What I did is, put the .app file in the Users/Library/iPhoneSimulator.. directory and place it similar to the other apps present there.
Close and open the simulator again, and you will be able to see the app on the springboard.

How to get ipa file from build folder in iphone sdk 4.3

I need to share distribution build to my client. When I used Xcode 4.0 it was very easy to find it. But now I am not able to see where the build folder places in the application folder. Now I am using Xcode 4.3. And it is little confusing for me. Can you guys please tell me the steps to find it out.
Thank you,
Chandra.
Connect your device
and
select XCode-->product-->archive then ipa file is generated in organizer then select your file and click on share and save, your ipa file is saved.
You should check your build settings in the xCode preferences.
In Xcode 3, you build the binary with Ad Hoc code signing settings and navigate to ~ProjectPath/build/AdHoc.ProjectName.
In Xcode 4, you have to "Archive" your binary. Then, open the organizer and select your app from the Archives menu. Once you've done that, choose the build of the app that ou want to share and click the "Share" button. Xcode 4 will prompt you to choose a codesigning certificate. This must match the one in your scheme. Once that is done, Xcode will ask you where to put it. Choose a location and then you will have answered your own question: The build is wherever you left it.

Not loading all content of ipa file into device while using itunes

i developed an app which is meant to read books(pdf book reader).i loaded 25 books(total size of 320MB) into the app using absolute path.all the books are been seen in the simulator and also i can load all the books into my device through xcode(build and run).
my requirement:
when i loaded the above obtained ipa file into the same device or other device which are in ad-hoc distribution using itunes , it is strange that only few books are being seen in the device.
note: i made sure that all the books are present in the .ipa file,i deleted old app in the device which i run via xcode. the device is in ad-hoc distribution.
while code signing i used the iphone developer certificate.
is it necessary to use distribution certificate instead iphone developer certificate which i feel that might be one reason for my problem?
plz anyone suggest me with exact solution to the scenario.
tnx in advance
I know I have seen problems going from simulator to live device. The simulator is not case sensitive, but the device is. Recheck all your actual files in bundle vs what you are requesting when you open the file. They need to match exactly for device, but not so much for simulator.
I would also try seting the apps-Info.plst to have "Application supports iTunes file sharing" on so you could see what is in the documents folder (this is if your moving files in that area).
One problem might be as RAZ suggested that iPhone is case sensitive, but there could be other problems.
For starters I would check the that ipa does contain everything you think should be there. Take the ipa, change the extension to zip and open it. You'll get a folder containing you're app. Right click the .app and choose show package. You'll now see all the files/resources included in your app. If the files that won't load in the app are there then you'll need to provide more information about the problem.
If they're not you need to make sure xCode knows to copy them to the app resources.
You might have resources that you haven't copied into the project, and you're only referencing the files on your hard disk. Then when you make the .ipa file it's not included. Try re-importing all your resources and select "copy to project".

which files are need to create .ipa for my application which is done in xcode

I am creating a simple application in xcode
Now i need to create ipa for that file.
By google i found some info regarding this.
create a folder named Payload and copy the app file,Zip the fine and rename zip to .ipa.
But i have a doubt in the this path users/username/library/application support/iphone simulator/4.1/Applications
i found a folder named with random alphabets and numbers.
In that i found documents, library, tmp folders along with my application.app.
is i need to copy all the 3 folders into payload or just my application.app is enough.
And i did n't get my icon in over the .ipa.
How can i get it.
can any one pls help me.
Thank u in advance.
If you go to Build and Archive in Xcode, it will package your app into an .ipa for you.
When in Organizer, click on your app, then click on the Share... button, then choose Save to Disk...
Also, I wouldnt suggest manually creating your .ipa files.
Apart from using Build and Archive, you can also try dragging and dropping your .app file onto iTunes. Then when you do 'reveal in finder' for the app, you'd see the IPA.

How do I change my iPhone App binary filename

I get the following error when I try to upload the application on iTunes Connect:
"Binary file names cannot contain a space. Please rename your binary file and try again."
If I try to Validate the Application in XCode, I get:
"My Application.ipa: filename may not contain whitespace"
So I guess I have to find a way to rename this .ipa file. I don't want to change my product name which has to stay "My Application". How can I do that?
Thanks!
This works very well (taken from here: http://developer.appcelerator.com/question/82971/filename-may-not-contain-whitespace-in-xcode-325-is-back):
1) In Xcode Organizer right click on the build date of the app and select "Reveal Archived App in Finder"
2) Open ArchiveInfo.plist in a text editor (i used Coda)
3) For me at line 12 it was creating the application with a space:
<key>XCApplicationName</key>
<string>Example Name</string>
Change that to ExampleName and save the file.
4) Once you get back to Xcode Organizer, you should be able to go through fine.
Since Xcode or the Application Loader is the only way to submit apps now, renaming the file before using the web interface isn't an option.
However, there is a workaround. From Xcode Organizer, choose Save to Disk, pick a file name without a space, and then use Application Loader (not the Xcode Organizer) to send the archive to Apple.
I ran into this and another issue when I wanted to submit an app with whitespace and a + in the name.
Application Loader did not work well for me - cryptic errors that required deleting the IPA and rebuilding.
My final solution was to set the PRODUCT_NAME to something sane, e.g. instead of My App+ it was MyAppPro. Then I set CFBundleDisplayName in Info.plist to the name I wanted, e.g. My App+.
This is in my opinion a better solution than renaming the IPA every time and using Application Loader.
I just had to rename the zip file before uploading it in the web interface. This is really silly...
Use Xcode 4.
The problem is solved in this version.
There's no need to change anything in XCode. Just rename the resulting .zip File from "My Application.zip" to "My_Application.zip". This does not affect your application name its just a way to bypass the Application Loader filename checks (which do not allow whitespaces in the uploaded zip filename).
My_Application.zip should be fine
I was able to use the Organizer, select Share, Save to disk. The went to the file and told Finder to open it with Application Loader v1.4. This is with XCode 3.2.5. I've previously used Application Loader to upload apps to the Mac app store.
