Can someone provide instructions on how to install eclipse + DLTK 3.0 on windows? I can only find 2.0 in the Help/Install New Software... area, and installing it manually is confusing.
If you are only seeing version 2.0, you may be using Eclipse 3.6 or earlier version. The latest release, Eclipse Indigo, has access to DLTK 3.0 in the install manager.
The update site adress is http://download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo
Once you connect to that update site, you will find the DLTK components in the list. I turned off "Group items by category" and scrolled down to "Dynamic languages ..", then just add the ones you are intrested in.
So a step-by-step instruction in case you are new to Eclipse:
Go to "window" -> "install new software."
In the new dialog, click add button.
Enter location = "http://download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo", click ok.
Select the new update site from the drop down menu and select the features you need.
Note the dependencies listed on the DLTK webpage, you must install those components first.
Not entirely sure what problems you were having, but this should help you get started. Let me know if you are still having issues.

I am trying to install pydev through update site and eclipse marketplace but that's impossible.
When trying to install I receive the following message:
Unable to read repository at https://dl.bintray.com/fabioz/pydev/latest/content.xml.
Looks like this file does not exist anymore on the repository.
Did somebody found a solution about that ?

I've run into the same issue. I found out that the link at the PyDev site http://www.pydev.org/updates is redirecting to https://dl.bintray.com/fabioz/pydev/6.4.1. Using this link doesn't work for me, in Eclipse 4.7.3a.
However, changing this link to http://dl.bintray.com/fabioz/pydev/6.4.1 solves my problems. Apparently, there is an issue with the SSL redirection at the distribution site, or the https downloads in Eclipse.
The Error Message
I am note sure why you are getting an error message about content.xml, the real file that Eclipse should be reading is content.jar which is there.
Try one of the solutions below and please post more details if you can.

I am trying to install Findbugs plugin for MyEclipse 6.0.1 using follwing steps:
In Eclipse, click on Help -> Software Update -> Find and Install...
Choose the Search for new features to install option, and click Next.
Click New Remote Site.
Enter the following:
Name: FindBugs update site
URL: one of the following (note: no final slash on the url)
http://findbugs.cs.umd.edu/eclipse for official releases and click OK.
"FindBugs update site" should appear under Sites to include in search.
Click the checkbox next to it to select it, and click Finish.
As soon as I click Finish eclipse shows me error saying "No features found on selected sites".
Can anyone plz tell me how should I proceed for Findbugs plugin inatallation in MyEclipse v6.0.1.
MyEclipse 6.6 is based on eclipse 3.3, so I assume 6.0 is also based on eclipse 3.3. That version of MyEclipse is now unsupported. However, you might be able to download the Findbugs plugin from here (which also list several update sites) and install it manually. I don't recall how to add plugins manually to eclipse 3.3 but there is probably a section in the help that comes with MyEclipse.
I'm installing EPIC within eclipse but always get an error:
Unable to read repository at http://e-p-i-c.sf.net/updates/testing/content.xml
I tried the second answer in this post which is:
1) add the line in eclipse.ini: -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack = true
2) delete eclipse/p2/org.eclipse.equinox.p2.repository/cache directory
But still get the error. However I can install CDT correctly.

There are 2 ways to install EPIC in Eclipse:
Way One:
Open Eclipse
Go to Help -> Install New Software and click Add button
Enter Name as EPIC and Location as follows:
http://e-p-i-c.sf.net/updates (for the stable 0.5.x, older version of EPIC)
http://e-p-i-c.sf.net/updates/testing (for the most recent 0.6.x version)
Follow the instruction of eclipse pop up
After successful installation go to Window -> Preferences and observe the list as "Perl EPIC" at
left side panel
Way Two:
Open Eclipse
Go to Help -> Eclipse Marketplace
Type EPIC at Find text box and click Go button
Click Install button at "EPIC - Eclipse Perl Integration" area
Follow the instruction of eclipse pop up
After successful installation go to Window -> Preferences and observe the list as "Perl EPIC" at
left side panel
This is another posible answer, besides the ones already provided.
I just hit this, and it was a firewall rule the issue.
In fact the file content.xml doesn't exist on the plugin update (it has instead a site.xml) but that is what the error says when it cannot reach outside world
Solution would be to just open ports 80 and 443 to Eclipse
PS: this happened to me while installing a new version of Eclipse which was not whitelisted in the firewall rules
Remove the site from your "Available Software Sites".
1) Go to "Help" > "Install New Software" > "Available Software Sites"
Find the URL you mentioned in the list and delete it.
Note: Then install EPIC from marketplace if required.
I have an eclipse installation from the "Eclipse for PHP Developers" package and I want to "extend" it to have in addition to the PHP components all the components of "Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers".
but the Feature Lists in the above links do not match the items I am presented when I choose "Install new software..." from the eclipse help menu.
Is there anything I can do about this?
the result of copying plugins/features into that folder is not that predictable and hence not safe. Eclipse adviced to install plugins via "Install new Software" - it will tell you about conflicts (like different plugins use different version of another plugin" etc; or you need to install another plugin etc.) Otherwise I had situations when it didn't work and I got no idea why (had to read logs to figure it out).
Well, to install new plugin you have few possibilities:
1) "Install new Software" - you already tried it. Take into account that the list of plugins by default is limited here. But below the button "Add..." you can see "Available Software Sites" - this list is enhanced, and some of plugins you can find here". UPDATE: the process of installation is described here
2) With new Eclipse (Helios) you got new way to add plugins, so called Eclipse Marketplace (Help/Eclipse Marketplace...). This is recommended way to look and install new plugins.
Back to your problem - I think it is much more easier to download Java IDE for Java EE Developers, and install PHP Development Tools there. In Marketplace I selected Yoxos as source, typed "pdt" and found plugins related to PDTs (although I'm not sure there are all parts of it)
I am having issues installing the BlackBerry JDE plugin. I have downloaded and installed the plugin from the BlackBerry site. The installation ran smoothly and completed. However when I open Eclipse the option for BlackBerry is not showing.
I don't know what the problem is exactly. I tried many things but I am heading nowhere. I want to know how to add the plugin and get started on BlackBerry development.
The default download of the BlackBerry Java Plug-in for Eclipse is a combination of Eclipse and the BlackBerry Eclipse plugin. For version 1.3 and 1.5, the install directory will contain a full Eclipse Helios installation, along with the BlackBerry plugin. You should start eclipse from that directory.
From the download page, one of the new features for version 1.5 is:
Ability to download and install the BlackBerry Plug-in into an existing Eclipse environment by providing the BlackBerry Plug-in through an Eclipse update site.
So to take advantage of that, follow the instructions on "BlackBerry Java Plug-in for Eclipse Update Site" which explain how to add the site to your existing Eclipse setup, and then install the plugin from the site.
There are 2 options, as noted above.
The blackberry way: you download the full plugin (the name is misleading, since it's a full eclipse install including the plugin) from here.
The eclipse way: you install a 32-bit Java 6 SDK (64-bit is not supported and Java 7 has known problems with the code signing tool), then download the 32-bit Eclipse (I use version 3.7 "Indigo"), and install the plugin from Eclipse (Menu Help->Install new software, type the url "http://www.blackberry.com/go/eclipseupdate/3.6/java" inside the "Work with" box, then you need to select the plugin and at least a Blackberry SDK from the list)
If everything works, you should see the blackberry icon in the "About" box.
You should also see a Blackberry perspective (under Window->Open Perspective), a Blackberry menu item under "Project"), and a Blackberry section if you create a new project.
There is no such thing as a "Blackberry tab". The Blackberry development tools are integrated with the environment.
you could have done some mistakes while the installation. I am also using in windows 7 only. Its working perfectly for me. Please delete the current eclipse and try to install as shown in this tutorial.
I have installed it on my new laptop just yesterday. Simple, follow the steps and you will be done. Note that the latest eclipse is Indigo and not Helios; I am using Indigo and I advocate it.
Go grab your Indigo
Unzip into ANY dammed directory. You must see a folder with "eclipse" created.
Double click the Violet eclipse Icon. You must now be seeing eclipse smiling at you.
Select the menu Help->Install New Software
Select a hyperlink present at label "Find more software by working with the "Available Software Sites" preferences"
Now select Preferences and the select the button "Add".
Fill up Name and Location values with the following
Name:BlackBerry Java Plug-in Update Site, Value: "http://www.blackberry.com/go/eclipseUpdate/3.6/java"
Select OK.
That's it!
