Callout within UITableView - iphone

I am looking for a iOS Music app style Callout functionality. What I mean with that is that I want to get the same kind of callout "bubble" you get when press-and-hold within the Music app on iOS5.
I have been searching for a good solution for this, but can't find it.
The closest to what I need is: Use UITableView bubble/callout like iPod app However, this user didn't share what solution he had.
The libs I have looked at are:

All of these have one this in common: They are useless.
The problem with these are that they all use a static callout view using PNG images, not one with a pointer beneath. Also, they do not adapt to the size of the screen; thus the bubble gets outside of the screen.
Any suggestions on a good library which I can use to implements this within my app?

iOS - How to show hints for gestures for iOS app?

I have seen some apps where when you launch them for the first time after downloading (e.g. Chrome app on iPhone), it shows you a list of animated gestures on the screen, kind of giving you a tour of the app.
How do I build one something like that? And how does the app know to launch only for the first time after download and not since then? For the second question, I am guessing a "shown=TRUE" value can be saved inside a PList file and checking the value each time when the app finished launching. But I am more curious about the mechanism involved in creating a guided app tour.
You can use transparent and semi-transparent images with a UIImageView, so you can make up an image with arrows and notes and put over the whole screen. You could fade it out when the user taps.
To know if it's the first time running the app, you should use NSUserDefaults instead of a plist; it's much easier, and you should be app to find a quick tutorial on that fairly easily.
Also, you could check around on this site for controls like this one. I haven't used any of them myself, so I'm not sure how much they differ from a regular UIImageView. They look nice though.

iPhone SDK - Expanding Buttons like in the camera app

I am curious as to whether or not there is an open source solution to replicate the flash button in the iOS camera applicaiton.
I have seem many other apps use this, but there doesn't seem to be a native way, so I assume there is a common source out there.
It is possible to get the flash button by using UIImagePickerController class, but most of the camera apps out there don't seem to be using this (or perhaps they subclass it, which is against apple's terms).
I am looking for a way to replicate the expanding behavior of the button. Any thoughts?
It doesn't sound too hard.
The way I'd do it is to separate the right curve of the button (as images), and make a UIView that has the left part of the button and the right curve as subviews.
When it's tapped, slide the right curve and animate the extra buttons in.
You could use a stretchable UIImage (see UIImage documentation) and then just animate the frame changing.
In the Apple 2010 WWDC Sample code (downloadable via iTunes, otherwise I'd post it here), there are several sample applications which use this control. They call the class ExpandyButton. I realize I'm answering my question, but hopefully someone out there can find this useful.
While looking for a similar solution to this problem I came across this code which was extremely helpful. Similar to ExpandyButton it fit my needs better.

Creating a tableview in the form of a 'film strip'

I am developing an RSS-reader-type application. I am toying with the possibility of using a normal TableView application but showing the articles as a film-strip. I am mainly thinking for an iPad application (but possible it works on the smaller iPhone as well).
The idea is to have the cells passing/scrolling across the screen using swipe touches (but horizontal, and not vertical as with the normal TableView). They will be some-kind of miniatures of the full article, and when tapped (or with multi-touch zoom to have better control) can be enlarged to read. Then can then just be be moved on as soon as the user has seen enough of it.
Does anybody know if there is an easy way of accomplishing something like that?
The most obvious solution that springs to mind would be to use a UIScrollView, as this will provide the inertial effects, etc. for free - all you'd have to do it populate it with the relevant sub-views. (UITableView's actually use a UIScrollView.)

What is the name of the UIView used at the "home" screen of iPhone?

First of all, the question is very simple, but I have tried to look around on the Internet and I couldn't find a name for this. Several applications such as "Ping Lite" have used this view in their application. It allows you to have submodules/applications as icons and you can scroll the page around just like when you are at "home" screen.
Can somebody tells me what is the name of the class that is used there?
This kind of view is not available in the iPhone SDK. It is written by Apple and it's not included in the UIKit framework. It's only available in SpringBoard.app, the application responsible for many features of the OS (kind of Finder.app).
However, you can write it yourself of course, using a UIScrollView. This will take some time but luckily we have the Three20 project, which implements the TTLauncherView class
AFAIK the standard sdk has no such a class. You can check third-party libraries(three20, for example) or customize UIScrollView behaviour
The UIView used at the “home” screen of iPhone is a UIScrollView alongwith UIPageControl.
Check the PageControl sample code from Apple and you will learn how it works.

How do you implement swipe-able image stacks like the Photo app using the iPhone SDK?

I would like to take a stack of images (or potentially an array of URLs to download images) and display them in full screen, one at a time, using user swipes to smoothly animate the next image in the stack, using the iPhone SDK. Apple's Photo.app seems to do this. Additionally, if the image has not been retrieved yet, I'd like to display the progress indicator.
Can you point me to example code and explain how this technique would be implemented?
You need to use UIScrollview's page control mechanism. Apple has plenty of sample code, including one called, strangely enough, Page Control:

If you want any behavior beyond that, you'll have to roll it yourself.
