I recently downloaded this new app called Track My Coupon and the one cool feature that I like is the ability to access a site off of the iPhone. The way they have it is the user has their iPhone connected to a wifi network that their computer is on and browse to the iPhone ip. What I am trying to get to is how did they do this? Is their an API to do this?

Am writing an application for iphone to run as mobile web server by assigning one IP address to it.How can we deploy mobile web server in iphone without using servers man application?
You can use a framework like Robbie Hanson's CocoaHTTPServer to respond to web requests in an iPhone app. However I think you are trying to ask whether it's possible to to run a web server in the background, without having an app running.
The answer is that it's not possible, unless you have a jailbroken device.
I have tried looking for some answers but could not get anything concrete from the other questions in here.
I am looking for an answer to these two questions:
Using PhoneGap, if I create an iPhone web app, can I use it as
plain web app (i.e. without using iTunes to deploy it)? Just via a
web url?
Using PhoneGap, can an iPhone web app check for wifi
connectivity? i.e. If wifi/3g is available, if wifi is available,
can it scan for ssids.
Thanks for any help in advance.
You can create host the web app on your own server (or local). Then it is accessible via web url. If you want to use it as a normal app (there are differences - phonegap uses few native plugins for better experience), then you must have a developer license from apple and then deploy it to your device. Otherwise you can only use the simulator. You can also use Safari + USB to debug your app using the browser.
It is possible but limited. Only certain functionalities are available. Check out the following plugin for cordova (phonegap):
cordova-plugin-wifi
Good luck!
I am trying to do an enterprise application which need to list all the installed apps in iPhone and also should allow the user to delete some apps from current application.I know this is not possible using any direct API's.But I found that using MDM API's it is possible. I had gone through the documents about this in apple's website http://images.apple.com/iphone/business/docs/iPhone_OTA_Enrollment_Configuration.pdf
But I am not sure where I need to start. What are the steps I need to follow to access these APIs in the iPhone side. Do I need to perform all these steps programatically when I open the app or else these will be handled by server.
Please share your ideas about how to implement this from a developer point of view.
Thanks in advance.
Apps are not able to do any MDM, it can only be done by the server, that is managing the device.
Apple has a session video from WWDC 2010 that shows how this is done.
I am new to iPhone world.
I have developed an application, which I would like to send to all the iphones come under the vicinity of a particular wi-fi access point. (It is meant for a shopping mall)
With my limited knowledge in this, I understand, I cannot distribute the application through my webserver. I even cant use the 'Ad hoc mode' suggested by Apple, as registering of all the mobile phones is impractical.
I would like to know whether the only solution is 'distribution through appstore'? Or any other solution available?
Expecting your help.
Thanks.
If you mean that the application would automatically be loaded onto phones when they move into a certain shopping mall, then yes, I can see that you are new to iPhone development! :)
For security reasons, the user has to specifically choose to download the app.
If the app is not iPhone-specific but simply a web page made up to look like an app, then you could use SMS to send a URL to the phone. But that would require you to know the phone number, which is also not made available through any kind of local wireless communication, again for obvious security reasons.
The simplest approach would be to put a poster up in the mall, telling iPhone users that they can find the mall's app on the iTunes App Store.
Another possible solution is to make a web app instead of a native app.
Is there a way I can connect to the iTunes library on Mac from my iPhone app. The functionality which is available in Remote app from apple. I beleive this is something to do with bonjour programming.
Can anyone provide me any head start and point me in the right direction to look for?
Thanks
You can't. iTunes uses a protocol called DAAP. While DAAP itself has been reverse engineered, the current version of iTunes uses an authentication mechanism that is not public and has not been reverse engineered.
What that means is while people can implement unauthenticated servers that iTunes can connect to, no one but Apple can currently implement clients that connect to iTunes itself.
This is a good place to start. He's the guy who wrote the Android remote, after reverse-engineering DACP.
What about installing software like Accesstunes on your computer, then use the IP in your browser !? I used to do it with my Nokia N95-8G..! I will try with the iphone in a bit to see !
