I'm looking for a commercial option for managing email distribution groups through a website. Members need to be able to subscribe and unsubscribe from distribution lists, but crucially, they need to be able to send emails to the group themseleves (unlike newsletter signups like constant contact).
I understand this kind of thing is possible through open source options such as mailman, LISTSERV, ecartis, majordomo etc. However, I'm not keen on installing python scripts, working with beta, unsupported versions etc.
I'm after a commercial, hosted solution which gives me an API that I can plug my website into. The API would need options to set up new groups and subscribe to and from them.
Any suggestions welcome.

I receive emails from a couple of Azure DevOps environments, my company system and a suppliers system. I had rules for the email notifications to move them based on the From address, which was different. Now all the emails come from azuredevops#microsoft.com.
Does anyone know if there is any way to easily distinguish where the email has come from ?
Is it possible to change the From address used by DevOps? I don't believe it is possible to customise the body, and basing the filter on the body is too much maintenance

The answer is No. The notification from could not be modified by users.
But, I can get what you are suffering. While have the notification emails comes from several organizations, its too messy to know exactly where they come from.
Now, for build or release notification emails, you can create filter subject rules to distinguish them. Because in the subject of email which about build or release, it contains the info of organization name.
But, unfortunately, until now, the org info just displayed in build and release notification. And also you could not customize the email content of notification.
You can raise the demand to Microsoft Developer Community, follow and vote it.
When there are enough communities vote and add comments for this feedback, the product team member will take this feedback seriously.
I have found a work around in order to filter my emails, in case anyone else has the same issue.
The emails contain links to take you to the work item or other DevOps page that the email is related to. I've been able to create a filter based on the Url that the link is pointing to, so I'm looking for the specific DevOps URL in the Body of the message, as filing the email based on that. It seems to work for my requirements at least.

I think that correctly modified WordPress would do the trick.
You will have to extend it's functionality with plugins. There are some nice ones for PayPal subscription and advanced Q forms making. Built in functionality will allow you to manage users and additional plugins of either your or others authorship will allow you to easily connect with JSON POST/GET requests depending what your specific needs are.
WordPress is very neat, has a great developing community, and you may create beautiful designs with it.
But system like Joomla is also very "customizable", with enough time spent you will have the features you need.
I'm sorry if that's not what you were looking for, but there will never be a 100% match to features you have specified.
I have built a Custom B2B app for one of our clients. My question is how to automate the distribution of the redemption codes.
I have already looked at some of the MDM providers. Their solutions are too expensive and all we really need is a way to distribute the app from a webserver, not manage a bunch of mobile devices.
As you probably already know, when a client buys a Custom B2B app through the Apple VPP program, they get a spreadsheet with valid redemption codes for the number of licenses they have built. This spreadsheet has 2 columns: 1) redemption code 2) URL to redeem the code
I want to provide my client with a URL where they can send their users to download the app. They just don't have the expertise/infrastructure to distribute the app themselves. And emailing clients is not going to work.
I'm not a web guy, but it seems to me that we could write a webpage that would look at the spreadsheet for the next available activation code and then redirect the user to the associated URL. I'm not concerned with the number of licenses they distribute since I have another way of auditing the real number of users (Flurry). So I want this to be as painless as possible.
In fact, I have multiple clients and want to provide them each with their own URL for their clients. It seems like this shouldn't be too difficult to code.
The problem is, I'm not the guy to write that code. Any ideas on how best to do this?
Assuming that you don't want to show the user a website you should be able to do this with an online service like parse.com and the features it offers.
From a user POV you would supply them with a link which directed them to parse.com with a path and parameters indicating the action to be taken (get app) and what account is associated. This would redirect the users browser to the appropriate destination.
The main issue (and this applies to any solution) is knowing if the user actually followed through and used the code. i.e. should it be removed from the DB so it isn't offered to another user in future. Then you would update the DB each time you get a new spreadsheet.
Anyway, this could be achieved with a little javascript in parse.com, specifically, by using cloud code which can interrogate and modify the DB and then redirect the user.
Obviously if you need user authentication of some kind or other restrictions then you would need to start adding some web interface on top of this in order to collect the details.
I work for a large company, which uses MS Exchange for Email. We have a distribution list for people to post questions, where anyone can answer. I am looking for a way to maintain a copy of this distribution list so that anyone can search it. Ideally, this would be searchable from within Outlook as well as by going to a webpage, but I will take either one. Someone has proposed to create a dummy email account, which just gets the distribution list traffic. Everyone interested in this distribution list could then attach this account. While this may work, there are several challenges with this approach:
1) It becomes problematic when you have several hundred people attaching a single email Inbox/account.
2). I need this account to be read-only, so someone doesn't accidentally delete an email from this account, thinking that it is in their personal account.
3). Our company has an auto-archive policy. This account would need to be exempt from that policy.
Any ideas?

The dummy mailbox is not a bad idea. You can give the people appropiate permissions to the Inbox folder of that mailbox.
To work around the permission issue you could either
1) create a transport agent which monitors the mailflow and dumps all messages to a database or CMS/SharePoint/whatever.
2) Create the dummy mailbox and setup a service which monitors this mailbox using push/pull/streaming notifications and dump the messages to a database/CMS/SharePoint/whatever.
The SharePoint solution would make the search option a piece of cake. But if you don't already have a SharePoint instance up and running this might be overkill.
