Using a Search Bar - iphone

I need to add a search bar to my project, which I call the server passing as parameters words entered into the search bar.
All the examples I have found look on a TableView that contains data on which search is made but this is not what I want.
I thought of doing with a TextField but would like to know first if I could do with a SearchBar.
ps: sorry for my english ;)

Here If you get all the data from the server using Web Services then here no meaning to use searchbar. you can do same thing with the textField also.
But if if you want it to look as search bar then you can use the photoshop designed UI. and validate text filed as search-bar.

How to have suggestions come up when filling in TextField?

I am new to IOS development. I am trying to add simple TextField for entering Occupation. I would like to show the user some matching suggestions as they user type (from a set of occupations that I already have). This is a very common usecase. Is there a idiomatic ways of doing this? In Android there is an AutoCompleteTextView in the standard view library which takes in an array of suggestions during initalization. I could not find anything similar in IOS.
You can use some 3rd party libraries available for Auto complete text field
but
the best and easy approach from my perspective is to use UITextField and at bottom add UITableview. So the concept is when you type any character in textfield you need to filter some data from tableview and reload tableview

How to create two input text field inside UISearchBar

I want to create UISearchbar with two input fields one for keyword and the other for location like Yelp application , how i can do something like this , please advice
I don't think you can have two search parameters in the same UISearchbar. You will have to create your search component for that, maybe a view with two UItextField and a Search Button and you can use UITextFieldDelegates to perform the various search operations.
Refer to Customizing Appearance of UISearchBar from Apple.

Search Bar in Native Meassage App in iPhone

I need to know that what type of VIEW is used in the search bar of Create Message Screen. The bar searches , adds tabs as per the contacts selected and and also gives the option of selecting contacts form contact list througha button.
I am not able to understand whether it is a UITextView ot a UIView with variable size of UITextView.
Can Anyone please help me out in this regard.
Thsnks in advance!!
Since no one has yet answered my problem, and I have found the solution so will answer my own problem.
Yes, the search bar used in the native application is a UIScrollview with variable sized UITextView that converts the selected name into Number.
Thanks

Best approach for adding non-web links to UITextView

I am creating a dictionary-style app that presents a tableview full of words, and when a word is selected, a UITextView is displayed that shows the definition of the word. What I would like to do is add a line that says "See also: synonym1, synonym2" where synonym1 and synonym2 are links that will take the user to the definition for the synonym that is touched.
What is the best way to add these dynamic links? Buttons? Somehow add a small UIWebView a UItable on the fly?
Thanks!
I would replace your UITextView with a UIWebView and use that contain your description text and your links. It's fairly trivial to generate HTML on the fly for something like that.
You could register a custom URL scheme for your app, or you could intercept links as they're clicked.
If your links are always grouped together there's no reason why you couldn't use a bunch of UIButtons inside a custom view, but then you'd have to handle layout and wrapping on your own. It seems a lot easier to do it in HTML.

How do I create a dictionary-style scroll bar for iPhone (like in the Contacts list)?

I am creating an iPhone app which I would like to have a similar interface to the iPhone's native contact picker view, i.e. an alphabetical list which you can scroll through, with a search bar up top which narrows down the list. Particularly, I'd like to be able to show the letters of the alphabet down the side so that as you scroll through the list, you see your position in the alphabet in the scrollbar. The problem is that my data basically consists of key-value pairs, not contact data, so I can't easily use the native contact picker.
As far as I can see, I have two options to achieve what I want:
Use the ABPeoplePickerNavigationController class and hack it to use an address book which I fill myself with non-address type data. The problem with this is that, by default, the address book will fill up with the contacts from the iPhone so that each time the app opened, I'd have to flush those contacts and build my own list. (Not to mention other problems associated with using an interface which is bound to a particular data structure)
Use a UISearchBar and UIScrollView. This would be fine, but I'm not sure how to do anything to the scroll bar except change its colour - I can't see how to override its contents.
Any advice on which is the simplest way? What are the pitfalls (particularly of 1)?
To get the letters down the side, you can just provide a -sectionIndexTitlesForTableView: method in your table view datasource. As for searching, there's a bit more work there, and it's very dependent on your data. A UISearchBar is the place to start, however.
For a search bar, have a look at TTSearchBar in the Three20 library.
Everything else can be easily implemented using UITableView.
