I followed the gcc compiler installation tutorial for windows from the vscode website: https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/cpp/config-mingw
And the bin folder (C:\msys64\mingw64\bin) is empty, so i'm not able to run the "g++ --version" by adding this path to the Windows path environment variable.
My alternative to it was to use the codeblocks compiler to run my code in vscode, by adding this path: (C:\Program Files\CodeBlocks\MinGW\bin) to the "path" selection in the windows environment variables.
I want to make the MSYS2 compiler work properly in my vscode.

MSYS2 comes with a package manager pacman that you should use to install any components you need.
In your case, open the MSYS2 shell (by running mingw64.exe) and run the following commands:
pacman -Syu --noconfirm
pacman -S mingw-w64-x86_64-toolchain
The first command will tell the package manager to update it's database, the second command will get the MinGW-w64 64-bit GCC compiler.
If you don't really need MSYS2 (e.g. because you dan't plan to use the MSYS2 shell) you could also consider getting a standalone MinGW-w64 build from https://winlibs.com/
I've seen some other stakoverflow question like this one:

But it's not quite the same problem.
My problem is that only my gdb.exe is not found by Clion. I can compile and run programs without problem, but when i need to debug the program tell me that only the debbuger is incorrect.
The problem is that my gbd.exe is present in my cygwin/bin folder
and i have it also in my PATH (system variable)
What i've done so far:
delete, shutdown and reinstall cygwin from scratch.
Install Netbeans and try to run with cygwin config (and debugger) -> everthing is working and i can debug my program. I also try to select it manualy.
So the real question is why Clion think my gdb is not present?
An how can i make it work?

My settings:
Short answer: check what versions of gcc, g++ and gdb you have installed. They should be of the same major version.
Long answer:
Try to launch gdb.exe from cygwin terminal. You will probably get something like this (I'm using mingw64 from msys2 so folder will be different):
$ gdb
C:/msys64/mingw64/bin/gdb.exe: error while loading shared libraries: libgcc_s_seh-1.dll:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
But you have gcc installed so you will have this DLL inside C:/msys64/mingw64/bin (in your case folder is different). The problem is that your gdb and gcc are of different major versions. I got this problem when installed mingw-w64-x86_64-gcc-7.3.0-2 with mingw-w64-x86_64-gdb-8.2.1-1. That's why gdb was not able to launch and CLion was not able to check GDB version thus outputting "Not found" error.
If this is the case - remove gdb and install it again. Now with correct major version (same as gcc). Since you're using cygwin, launch cygwin setup again, search for gdb package (don't forget to change view to full) and change version to be the same as gcc. Or, alternatively, you can change gcc version to be the same as gdb (in my case this wasn't possible).

I added this to my settings.json file, accessed through preferences > Workspace Settings :
"typescript.tsdk": "node_modules/typescript/lib"
now I no longer receive this error and in the bottom right corner of my screen it shows the current version of Typescript that I have installed.
[UPDATE] VS Code 1.6 now ships with TypeScript 2.0.3.
I just installed the latest Typescript, currently v.2.0.3, and installed VS Code v.1.5.3 on macOS Sierra. For some reason, exactly following the official doc didn't work for me.
Here's how I made it work:
After having installed the latest version globally:
npm i -g typescript, I added the following line to my settings.json file (opened by cmd + ,):
"typescript.tsdk": "/usr/local/lib/node_modules/typescript/lib",

If you want to use a newer version of TypeScript, you can define the typescript.tsdk setting (File > Preferences > User/Workspace Settings) pointing to a directory containing the TypeScript tsserver.js file.
You can find the installation location using npm list typescript, tsserver.js is usually under the lib folder.

This error was being generated because I had a reference to an older installation of TypeScript in my System Path variable:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\TypeScript\1.0\
The Visual Studio Code error was resolved when I removed this entry.
However, my TypeScript files then failed to transpile as the build action couldn't find the tsc.exe file.
When the SDK is installed (through Visual Studio or via a manual *.visx install), a tsc.exe file is installed and the PATH environment variable is updated to reference the folder that this file resides in (see above).
There is another way to transpile your files on a Windows environment by using node.js:
Install node.js. Installation packages can be found here.
Use npm to install TypeScript:
npm install -g typescript
This will add the TypeScript files to your profile AppData folder:
C:\Users\{your_user_name}\AppData\Roaming\npm\node_modules\typescript\lib
Configure your Visual Studio Code user settings.json file to reference this folder:

None of the solutions above worked for me - first of all this is the global tsc I want to have updated to the latest version.
After I did some investigation it turned out that the problem lies in system's PATH variables; tsc.cmd (along with tscserver.cmd) exists in these locations:
c:\Program Files\nodejs - where the npm.exe and node.exe are
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\npm - where global packages are
What you can do is to juggle environment\user variables so the tsc command would be resolved from %USERPROFILE% first instead of Program Files.
The quick & dirty way would be just deleting tsc.cmd and tscserver.cmd from the Program Files path.
Installing v2.0.3 of typescript was not sufficient... but but then updating the version dependency on package.json worked for me.
Npm command:
npm install -g typescript#2.0.3
Updated line on package.json:
"typescript": "^2.0.3"
The cause of my experience with this issue (in VSCode 1.8 on Mac OS X 10.12.2) was that I have been using NVM and while my code was running on the NVM version, VSCode was looking at a system installation of node.
Double check which installation of npm you are using to install typescript globally. If in doubt (on linux/mac) use which tsc from the command-line to verify the location being used by VSCode.
For example, if I simply call npm i -g typescript, npm resolves to ~/.nvm/versions/node/v6.9.1/bin/npm. I had to solve the problem by calling /usr/local/bin/npm i -g typescript explicitly because VSCode looks for node in /usr/local/bin/node by default.
Install TypeScript globally to share the installation across workspaces. In this case, you install it using npm install -g typescript#next.
You then have to tell VS Code on setting.json file (File -> Preferences -> Workspace Settings) the install location using the typescript.tsdk setting. Set typescript.tsdk to the path of the lib folder containing the tsserver.js file of the installed TypeScript module.
On windows:
"typescript.tsdk": "C:/Users/<MyUser>/AppData/Roaming/npm/node_modules/typescript/lib"
On Mac:
"typescript.tsdk": "/usr/local/lib/node_modules/typescript/lib"
Installing VSCode 1.6.0 fixed the TypeScript version mismatch warning message for me.
You'd think that this being a Microsoft product they'd give the Windows paths on their website

but they don't. They only give the Unix path types.
Use:-
On windows: "typescript.tsdk": "C:/Users/YourNameHere/AppData/Roaming/npm/node_modules/typescript/lib/"
Note that forward strokes must be used even though Windows uses backstrokes for the paths!
Some other answers miss off the last forward stroke which is necessary.
You can just remove 'typescript.tsdk' and use the one embedded in Code if you don't really care about which tsdk version you use.
I'm trying to build a project with a specific compiler in Eclipse, and I'm using a Makefile to do the dirty work -- only problem is that it seems as if Eclipse doesn't share the same paths as my bash sessions. I've set .bash_profile and .profile (apparently Mac likes .profile just as much as .bash_profile), but neither of the exports that I've included are getting picked up. Do I need to manually set some symlinks in my /usr/bin or something like that? Or is there a way to manually set paths in eclipse?
This is because .bash_profile and .profile are read by bash when session is started. So you need to change the build command to bash -l -c "make".
Edited the Makefile and just added the absolute path:

Hey there, I have a small problem with compiling and linking with the command prompt(windows xp). Every .c file and .cpp file I compile or link has to be in the same directory as gcc (C:\Program Files\gcc\bin) and its quite hard to keep track of my files among all those gcc related files and its annoying too:). My question is how do I compile a file in a desktop folder using the command prompt?

c:\program files\gcc\bin> gcc -c test.c test2.c
when my source files are in bin.

Right Click My COmputer. GO to properties. Go to advanced tab. There is a button below Environment Variables. Find "PATH" in the global environment variables. Add
c:\program files\gcc\bin
after appending the semicolon at the end of previous entry.
Add this c:\program files\gcc\bin to PATH environment variable.
And then you can execute gcc/g++ from any directory
sounds like you dont have gcc in your PATH environment variable. Either add c:c:\program files\gcc\bin to this variable or call it with the absolute path name from whatever source directory your files are in
