We need to implement custom buttons in a UIAlertView. The reason is: You can choose "Cancel" (which dismisses the alert view) or you can choose "Continue" which starts a rather long-running update process. So, the two buttons are replaced with one "Cancel" button, so that the user is able to stop the running process.
Adding a standard UIButton simply renders them with blue border and white background, just as a normal button in a normal view looks like. But is there a way to get them look like the buttons a normal UIAlertView provides (like dark blue and with a gradient for the non-destructive choice)?

I am working on a iOS project where I want to implement a search functionality. I'm using UISearchBar and UISearchDisplayController and I would like to make UISearchBar implicitly hidden. When user taps on the UIBarButtonItem, the search bar will appear and "becomeFirstResponder", whereas when user clicks on the Cancel button in the search bar, it should disappear.
The appearing is working correctly, but I have a problem with disappearing. I managed to hide the search bar when user taps on the Cancel button (searchBarCancelButtonClicked method), but I'm unable to hide the search bar when the grey (dimmed) background in UISearchDisplayController is tapped. As far as I know, there is no method to detect this event, so it is necessary to apply some hack. Do you know any, or what is the best way to detect tapping on the gray background?
So I've finally worked it out. Apart from the searchBarCancelButtonClicked:(UISearchBar *)searchBar, it is also necessary to hide the search bar in searchDisplayControllerDidEndSearch:(UISearchDisplayController *)controller. It looks this callback is called even when the gray (dimmed) background is tapped, so it can be easily used for hiding the search bar.
UISearchDisplayController usually consists of a UISegmentedControl, the UIResultsTable and the keyboard. The results table is where you want to detect this touch to dismiss. With that being known, maybe you can add a transparent UIButton to that view that dismisses first responder, or Maybe you can add a UIGestureRecognizer on a transparent view that achieves the same effect? Just thinking off the top and have not tried this myself, if it works for you im glad !
I have a button connected to an action.
When I set the background image on that button, the result is not visually appealing. I want just to see the image not the button but I want the ibaction functionality of that button.
Please help
You need a button with type UIButtonTypeCustom (this will stop the default button appearance from drawing). You can do this in interface builder or in code (although you can't change it once the button is initialized).
As I observed that UIActionSheet is always appearing from down side in iPhone,
but in some app, as I saw in AlarmClock, then two button became visible, one from upside and second from downside of iPhone,
What is that exactly, I can't understand, as far as I feel, it looks UIActionSheet,
I want such appearance for one of my app....
Help!
Yes just like Ole said, you can't customize UIActionSheet . But since it is just a simple subview you can create your personal "action sheet" by subviewing and animating. So if you want a button to appear on the top and one on the button, then create two UIViews resize them to the right size for your button, add your action sheet style background or any other background, add your button, connect your IBActions to the buttons and your IBOutlets to the views. Then when you want the buttons to appear animate them onto the screen (using sone CGRect, animation time and finally [UIView commitAnimations])
Probably just one or two custom views with a custom animation. UIActionSheet is not customizable so if you want something else than the default behavior you have to write it yourself. It's not that difficult.
I am making multiple custom buttons that look much like this:
It is a simple button with either the green or gray in the "indicator view". What I need some explanation for is: In interfacebuilder there are four states a button can have; Normal, Highlighted, Selected and Disabled. When I provide images for everything except disabled I thought that normal would be when no touches were made on the button, highlighted is while you hold your finger on it and selected would be when after you release finger.
However I do not think thats right now. I use the touch-up-inside event. Is it correct that I need to set the selected/highlighted etc property on the button?
Thank you for your time.
You might want to set to selected and not highlighted.
Highlight is darkening the button for a fraction when touching the UIButton. UIButton can modify your image automaticaly so usually you don't need to provide a highlight image.
Disabled is when it is disabled.
Selected is when it is selected. You can invert the select flag on touch up inside event to make a state button.
[button setSelected:![button isSelected]];
Yes, you need to respond to the touch up inside by setting the button to highlighted.
Btw, it's "disabled" not deselected, but it doesn't sound like you need that state.
how can i just change the color,of a button when i set the focus on the button in iphone.
I mean to say , for example we have 5 buttons, and i am just setting the focus on each of the button. i want those buttons to be higlighted with different color.
but when press or touch up inside the utton, the navigation is made to the respective forms, that is set for that button.
you can write method, for example, let it be
- (void) changeButtonState:(UIButton*) buttonToChange;
then you can call it in your onBtnClk method for button you need. in that method you can change image for your button's UIControlStateNormal mode. and if I understand right, you can use toolbar or tabbar instead of buttons.
Guess you have already asked this issue differently here..
But have you checked the answer?? You can use any of those methods at your will!
