Fresh install of Netbeans 7.2 for PHP (literally 5 mins old) never installed on this system before.
Ctrl+Click fails when clicking on the parent class Class Foo extends Bar also namespaced classes.
Only local methods are found when ctrl + clicking
This question didn't help me either. All code is contained in one directory.
If anyone is facing the same problem with Netbeans 12 & Java, then check if you have nb-javac plugin installed or not!
Installing nb-javac plugin solved the issue for me in Netbeans 12.3.
To check/ install plugin, you can go to Tools> Plugin> Search.
Since this is a fresh install, is the project cache finished building?
Try this instead of Ctrl+Click:
Put selection on a method > Ctrl-B
in windows 7 : first close your netbeans then you should go to the C:\Users{YourUserName}\AppData\Local\NetBeans\Cache\7.2 and delete all the content of 7.2 folder .now open your netbeans.
Right click on the project for properties, then chose "Code Assistance", then select the "PHP Code Assistance", everything will get ok!

NetBeans background scanning projects takes too long. Every time when I open netbeans it scanning for ages. I used NetBeans 7.2 and it works perfecly. Now I formatted pc and reinstalled windows, install the same version of NetBeans 7.2, and it works to slow.
Having the same issue with 8.0.2 when a project has JS resources I tracked it down in my case to a problem with the javascript2 editor module which has been updated over the original version shipping with netbeans 8.0.2.
I simply solved it by removing the updated module.
On Linux:
rm ~/.netbeans/8.0.2/modules/org-netbeans-modules-javascript2-editor.jar
However, after letting the netbeans updater download the module a second time, the problem didn't appear again.
In Netbeans 8.1, the location of this file is at:
ide/modules/org-netbeans-modules-javascript2-editor.jar.
I have the same problem in netbeans but i found solution by unselect
the check from auto scan background
in your netbeans IDE go to tools and then Option and select then to miscellaneous and select file tab inside miscellaneous and
you will find check as "enable of auto-scanning of the source
unselect that one and netbeans will be fast then i hope it will help you
in fasting your IDE too
After latest update of Netbean 8.0.2 I have the same problem that scaning process did not stop and go forever with CPU usage on 25%.
When I replace javascrip editor files in C:\Program Files\NetBeans 8.0.2\ide\modules on Windows 7 with old one then scaning project process start work again. You can take those file from this repo.
i'm facing the same issue, but it works fine after increase the heap size by adding -J-Xmx2048m in <NETBEANS_DIR>\etc\netbeans.conf
mine looks like this:
netbeans_default_options="-J-client -J-Xss2m -J-Xms2048m -J-Xmx2048m -J-XX:PermSize=32m ......
Try the following :
1) Go to Window-->Files. This opens the Files Tab.
2) In the Files Tab for each opened project open the nbproject folder and inside it open the project.properties file.
3) Now in this file below the property "excludes" there are file references listed for all your referred Libraries (JARs)
4) There might be some repeated file references with paths that may be old or on someone else's machine(if you are working in a group and transferred projects from someone's machine)
5) Delete those old path references.
Example -
excludes=
file.reference.xyz.jar=../not/correct/path.jar //delete this line
file.reference.xyz.jar-1=../correct/path.jar //remove -1
....
includes=**
6)Also locate the property "javac.classpath" and delete the unnecessary classpath entries corresponding to the deleted references as described above.
Example -
javac.classpath=\
${file.reference.xyz.jar}:\ //keep this line
${file.reference.xyz.jar-1}:\ //delete this line
....
javac.compilerargs=
7) So now the file reference mentioned in the file reference section and the javac.classpath property is same and points to a valid Library (JAR) address on your machine or network.
Example -
excludes=
file.reference.xyz.jar=../correct/path.jar //the correct reference & path
....
includes=**
....
javac.classpath=\
${file.reference.xyz.jar}:\ //the correct classpath entry for reference
....
javac.compilerargs=
....
The reason the above procedure worked (in my case) is because it prevents Netbeans from scanning unnecessary Library paths that may not be present on your machine/network.
On Windows 10 64bit I had the same problem with Netbeans IDE 8.1
I restarted Netbeans as administrator and the problem was solved. Then I closed Netbeans and started normally and the problem was still gone.
Product Version: NetBeans IDE 8.1 (Build 201510222201)
Updates: NetBeans IDE is updated to version NetBeans 8.1 Patch 1
Java: 1.8.0_60; Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 25.60-b23
Runtime: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 1.8.0_60-b27
System: Windows 10 version 10.0 running on amd64; Cp1252; nl_NL (nb)
OS: Windows 7 x64.
The following worked for me:
I fully uninstalled Netbeans (ticked all boxes in uninstaller). For those who couldn't you'll need to go to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\NetBeans\8.0.2 and delete a file called 'lock'. This is normally removed when the program exits but if you need to force terminate it'll remain there.
After that I uninstalled JDK and JRE then downloaded Java Platform (JDK) 8u40:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
And Netbeans 8.0.2:
https://netbeans.org/downloads/
Installed JDK (which installs JRE too), after that Netbeans. Once complete I loaded up projects where background scanning got stuck and it seems to have fixed it. Will post updates if it starts happening again.
I actually made a bug report for this issue. It was fixed and pushed to the update channels yesterday. So for anyone still having this specific bug, let Netbeans check for updates. :)
Bugfix: https://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=250985
On Ubuntu 18.04 / Netbeans 10.0, I had the same problem.
[FAIL] Deleted cache
[FAIL] Deleted project-specific "nbproject" dir
[FAIL] Closed the offending project (mouseover the progress bar to identify which one) --> restart NB --> create new project
[SUCCESS] Nuked the project from the F/S --> re-cloned --> restarted NB. I also renamed the directory itself, in case there was some other cache that pointed to the old dirname.
Please try NetBeans 8.0.2 from https://netbeans.org/downloads/
NetBeans 7.2 is too old and you will not get any support anymore.
I was having the same problem with Netbeans 8.1, Windows 10. It was also hanging when I tried to compile and refactor. It would sometimes say 100% done yet continue background scanning for hours. I closed the project in which this was happening, and switched to a simple project and the problem went away. So I examined my code. I had class A extending class B, then class B importing class A. When I changed this, the endless looping in Ant stopped.
Always I fix such Netbeans related problems by deleting cache directory.
Directory location can be seen on About dialog window.
For me, the path is
C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\NetBeans\Cache\YOUR_VERSION
This problem is related to one of the project opened in your IDE. As I had been facing the same issue but, after spending two hours on that issue I finally fixed that. Close project one by one or check and close the project where background processing is taking time. After closing the project delete the .nbproject folder and re-import the same project into your IDE.
It should be called foreground scanning of projects. Closing the program and restarting solves it for me sometimes.
I had the same problem but in my case I was on Windows 10 and running NetBeans 8.1.
Before I formatted my laptop I copied and backed up C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\NetBeans\8.1 and C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Local\NetBeans\Cache folders
Then i followed the below steps:
Install NetBeans and run it.
Closed NetBeans
Go to C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\NetBeans\8.1 and C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Local\NetBeans\Cache folders and replace them with the backed up folders.
Run NetBeans again
I hope this solves your problem!!
In my Laravel case ,got this "forever scanning" because the project was created in another IDE. I put the old IDE related folders .idea , vendor , node_modules into myproject->Properties->Ignored folders . Relaunched NetBeans as admin. It will scan a little bit but next time wont stick on that.
I´m beginning with Acceleo.
I installed eclipse-modeling-luna-M6-win32.
Then i installed acceleo by update on eclipse.
(is there any better option?)
Trying to use the uml2java example.
To run it i tried to run org.eclipse.acceleo.examples.uml2java.
It gave me:
Error
Couldn't load class org.eclipse.acceleo.examples.uml2java.main.Uml2java from project org.eclipse.acceleo.examples.uml2java
Couldn't load class org.eclipse.acceleo.examples.uml2java.main.Uml2java. Check that its containing package is exported.
I did not change the code.
I checked the MANIFEST and it has on the runtime: org.eclipse.acceleo.examples.uml2java.main
I also saw that there is an UI project that as i understand is a plugin but i don´t know what to do with it (so that it will create a new menu on eclipse).
Any help is appreciated!!
Thanks.
it worked using eclipse indigo with the latest acceleo. i don´t know if it´s possible to use a more recent eclipse version. also works with eclipse kepler.
This fixed the problem for me. Try adding the "bin/" directory to the Classpath in the Manifest file.
Right click the MANIFEST.MF file and "Open With >" "Plug-in Manifest Editor".
This gives some tabs at the bottom. Use the "Runtime" tab. On the bottom right of this screen there is a place to edit the classpath. Add "bin/".
I got this idea from Etienne's answer in: Can't generate java from UML using Acceleo in Eclipse
I have been draging and dropping from Windows Explorer to Eclipse since I've started using it, and now find myself unable to do so. When I drag a .java file over my package, the mouse cursor stays a circle with a diagonal bar through it and dropping does nothing.
I have tried to change my workspace, create a fresh new workspace, deleted eclipse and redownloaded it. It still doesn't work. Making Eclipse run as admin doesn't solve the issue either.
There are at least two workarounds:
Use the menu File -> Import -> General -> File System
or use CtrlC in Windows Explorer, CtrlV in the Package Explorer of Eclipse.
I had this issue when Eclipse was running as Administrator. Setting it back just worked.
I figured out it was due to viewing the project in Project Explorer instead of Package Explorer.
Right click on a project > Show in > Package Explorer
You'll be able to drag-drop again at this point.
I faced similar problem when trying to drag-drop image file directly from explored zip. After I extracted the zip, drag-drop worked as expected.
For me it was the missing marketplace client.
It is noticeable when help -> Eclipse Marketplace is missing.
I installed it with help -> Install new Software -> Update Site for 2018-09 -> Eclipse Marketplace
Extract all files from zip folder. It worked for me.
Every time I start Eclipse and press Ctrl + Space I get the following 3 warning popups.
http://imgur.com/a/2pKdm
They are only appearing the first time I press Ctrl + Space.
I get these warnings since i reinstalled the jdk.
I already tried to re-install eclipse, but as soon as I import my old projects the warnings seems to reappear. I currently have the following java versions installed:
JVE 7_u7 32bit;
JVE 7_u7 64bit;
JDK 7_u7 64bit;
JDK 7_u7 32bit.
I added all of them in the PATH variable in the same order as listed above.
I also have eclipse set to use the JDK 7_u7 64bit (btw I'm using eclipse 64bit).
I hope somebody knows a solution for my problem and excuse me for my bad english, I am not an native English speaker. ;)
You can resolve this issue by turning off Subwords-Completion in:
Window > Preferences > Code Recommenders > Completions: ==> incheck(Subwords-Completion)
I got the similar type of warning is eclipse spring tool suite(sts) .I unchecked CodeRecommendors Proposals(addons) which is present 2 times in the above list and below list and it worked.To do it go to window-->preferences-->java-->editor-->Content Assist-->advanced.see the screenshot.
You can configure content assist and disable the triggers in content assist. This link provides information on setting content assist preference.
I would like to share my experience for those who have this problem in the future. If you changed the theme of your editor recently, first change it back to the classic theme and then restart Eclipse. Then switch back to the theme(maybe dark theme) you want to use and restart Eclipse again. This is how my problem was solved.
I'm working with Eclipse Version 3.2.1 Build M20060921-0945 on a MS-Windows 2000 SP4 using a JDK 1.5.0-12.
I takes my locale that is es-AR and sets all menu and context in Spanish which I don't like. So I had included in eclipse.ini file one parameter "-nl en".
Since that, "References..." feature in both "Search" and contextual menu stopped working. I removed parameter and ran eclipse with "-clean" but still not working. I don't have any other clue about what is happening. Thank you all in advance.

Delete all the files in you eclipse data, eg:
<WORKSPACE>/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.jdt.core
This should force eclipse to rebuild its index
Had the same trouble with the latest Indigo release of Eclipse, searching for references of a method or class I selected invariably gave 0 results.
Stopping Eclipse, deleting all files in folder <WORKSPACE>/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.jdt.core, and restarting Eclipse afterwards has solved it.
I see a similar problem where search for references (Ctrl + Shift + G) stops working. It works again if I restart Eclipse, but it's still pretty annoying. I'm thinking maybe there's some keyboard shortcut that I hit sometimes by accident that messes up the search.
Go to {workspace}.metadata.plugins\org.eclipse.search and clear the History section of dialog_settings.xml , worked for me.
After trying all of the above and nothing working, I took another look at the file name pattern I was using for file search:
*.java *.properties, *.vm, *.xml, *.xsd
I was missing the comma after .java, so Eclipse wasn't searching my .java files, it was looking for files that matched the pattern ".java *.properties".
Wow did I feel dumb dumb dumb... adding the comma fixed it! Passing along my simplistic solution in case it does anybody else some good...
Strange as it sounds, it does seem that the keyboard mapping affects this. I had mapped -H to Search in Files, and the Java search started bringing up everything, rather then actual references to the method I was searching for. ~Nothing~ fix this, including the solution above. But remapping the key to Open Search Dialog DID fix it.
I've just come to experience this behaviour with Eclipse Mars 1 Release 4.5.1.
In an specific class only. Clean and build entire workspace does not work but I've updated Maven Project containing that class [Right-click on project -> Maven -> Update Project ...] and it works now.
Hope it helps someone.
I've just come to experience this behavior with Eclipse Mars 1 Release 4.5.1.
I tried everything mentioned above but it did not help.
So I created new workspace, and imported the project and search started working again.
I was facing a similar issue in Eclipse 2019-09 R (4.13.0) on Linux Mint
One thing that worked for me (besides closing and opening Eclipse again) was to click on the search icon and then in the Show Previous Search icon on the tab and then Open in New :
Trash your install.
Then reinstall it.
