Internal Editor (pdf4eclipse) is not listed in eclipse - eclipse

I am Trying to set up Eclipse with all its great features as my Latex editor by using TeXLipse. Everything seems to be working fine (tested with SumatraPDF) but Pdf4Eclipse, which I totally want for the "update while writing" feeling.
What I figured out from asking Google till now is:
Pdf4Eclipse is not to be selected as Viewer in Texlipse, it is ought to be selected as the default viewer within Eclipse by klicking:
Window > Preferences: General > Editors > File Associations; select *.pdf and choose Pdf4Eclipse - but it is not there.
It is installed though, it has an entry in the preference settings. So the question is: Why is it not there, what did I do wrong )-:
Edit: Error log (please note my initial learning curve and the desperate spamming of install commands at the end):

Edit 10.10.2012:
I verified this behavior with another Eclipse Version 3.8 instead of 4.2 (both Platform runtime binary version) on Win XP (instead of Vista). No error log was generated during startup. Maybe I should file a bug report at github.org?

I had the same problem (I guess the same. My problem was when I double-click a pdf file within texlipse, it is always opened in an external viewer, pdf-Xchange in my case), which was solved just now. Here is my solution and answer to your question:
In Window > Preferences: General > Editors > File Associations, for *.pdf, what appears in the "Associated editors" frame is "PDF Viewer (default)". This is in fact pdf4eclipse. You do not need to add anything. If you click "Add", you would not be able to add pdf4eclipse.
Then the problem in fact is that your texlipse already chose an external pdf viewer. Now go to Window > Texlipse > Viewer Settings, in "Viewer configurations", I guess you would see a pdf viewer. Just remove it, and now everything would be perfect. Double-clicking a pdf file in texlipse will open it in pdf4eclipse.
If you had the same problem as mine, then that's it.

I'm guessing that there is a setting somewhere where you specify the full path to the itexmac program, but this setting is not filled in.
Have you gone through the steps at the end of this page?
http://texlipse.sourceforge.net/manual/build.html

I had that problem and fixed it slightly differently than #unstable.
In Window > Preferences: General > Editors > File Associations, search for "*.pdf" and in associated editors choose "add...".
Choose "External programs", add Acrobat Catalog-index and hit ok.
Choose Acrobat Catalog-index as default. Try to open your file with it. Then come back and make "PDF Viewer" as default.
That should solve the problem.

how to add poi library to eclipse rcp project?

i'm trying to debug/run my app with poi libraries.
I added jar files downloaded from POI Official Site, and I put it in lib folder.
I also configure build path and add manually each one of the jar files.
This are the libraries ...
NOTE: In my libraries I allready have poi-3.0.1-FINAL.jar.
When I edit the class, i have no errors.
but when I run or debug app, i get this in console:

What I'm missing to do in eclipse ?
What are the minimum jar files necesary to write and read .XLSX files ?
Best regards!
Binaries !!
In a plug-in you must add the library jars to the plug-in's classpath rather than just adding them to the build path.
Open the MANIFEST.MF editor. On the 'Runtime' tab look at the 'Classpath' section. Click Add... and add the jars to the class path. Make sure you do not delete the '.' entry. This will add the jars to the 'Bundle-Classpath' in the MANIFEST.MF
On the 'Build' tab add the jars to the 'Binary Build' list. This will update the 'build.properties' file to make sure the files are included in the plug-in when it is built.
Step 1: Download latest version
Step 2: Unzip (unpack) files to what ever directory you want
Step 3: Right-click on you eclipse project in the eclipse package explorer
Step 4: Select Build Path >> Add External Archives...
Step 5: Navigate to the unzipped folder
Step 6: Select all files
Step 7: Click "Open"
Step 8: Rejoice

I have also faced this Error,
Possible Cause:-
Its a Linking Error occurred when i try to link Resources folder into my Eclipse Project explorer, when you link a folder into your project the .cproject file within the proj.android folder got modified. There are two < CConfiguration > sections in this file. When editing the c++ include paths in eclipse, only one of them is modified. This inconsistency cause the cdt crash.
Solution:
In fact there should only be one < CConfiguration >, so delete the second one, it start from line 85. After that you can edit c++ include paths in eclipse and no crash will happen.
If this workout didn't work with you then avoid linking folders to your project # all cost.
Hope this Helps You

What should I do to resolve it?
I had exactly the same problem and I realized what causes it. If you have some system related bundle more than once (org.eclipse.osgi for example) in your target file, then if you let your application running, then by default Eclipse adds all of the bundles to the launch configuration. So steps to take:
Open launch config and go to plugins tab
click on validate
See which plugin is duplicated
Leave only one checked, which is appropiate
See the picture below for details:
I've got a similar problem when trying to launch Eclipse CDT 4.1.1 (with couple 4.2.2 and several own plug-ins) from Eclipse SDK 4.2.2 on 32bit Java 7 VM in 32bit Windows Vista. I'm not sure what the root cause is, but I can reliably reproduce and solve it using the following steps.
Set a new target platform definition, or reload an existing one.
Try running JUnit4 plug-in tests in debug mode (Ctrl+F11), and observe everything working well.
Restart Eclipse.
Repeat step 2 and get the same java.lang.IllegalStateException as the topic starter.
Reload the target platform definition, and click OK on "Target Definition Out Of Synch: The active target platform is out of synch with the file system. Pressing ok on the preference page will update the target platform"
Repeat step 2 and observe that the error is gone again.
Since I don't get this error in a similar scenario with Eclipse 3.6, I would guess that the target platform code in Eclipse Juno does not handle NTFS file timestamps well enough. So, when an Eclipse instance is actually loaded, a changed bundle is erroneously detected and an attempt to reinstall it is made, leading to this error later.
Summary: try reloading the target platform if you get this error.
Try adding org.eclipse.core.runtime on the configuration tab of your product, and set it to a default start level (0) and auto start set to true.

Eclipse won't start, log error says: ObjectNotFoundException: Tree element

Last night my machine restarted while Eclipse Galileo was open. No big deal, right?
This morning, I started my machine and tried to open Eclipse. Instead of opening, I see this:
The error log suggests that there is some kind of problem caused by exiting with unsaved changes.
How can I get Eclipse to open and ignore those unsaved changes? I can't even open a text file that is not part of this project with Eclipse? There must be a way to reset this state.
EDIT:
I have tracked down the problem to a single file. When I delete this file below, Eclipse opens but my projects are missing.
.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resources\.snap
I do use the subversion plugin, but I don't think that is the problem. Here is what the error log says ( abbreviated ):

For this issue I had to delete the .snap file located in the directory :
<workspace-directory>\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resources
After deleting that file, I was able to start my Eclipse with no problem.
Recommended: Delete <workspace-directory>\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resources\.snap. This will not reset your workspace and your other projects won't get deleted (as answered by krishna).
Not Recommended: Alternatively, delete the the whole <workspace-directory>\.metadata directory from your workspace and restart. This will reset your workspace and delete all your existing projects in it.
Ran into this error.
There was no .snap file in my .metadata folder.
I had to delete this:
<workspace>/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.resources/.root/d+.tree
d+=> some number.
Then I had to re-import the projects and re-assign the working sets. I preferred it over opening a new workspace and redoing settings.
Deleting .snap file worked perfect for me.
Delete .snap file from the directory - workspace.metadata.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resources.
Import the workspace (existing projects into workspace - do not copy folders into workspace again).
For anyone interested, I had the exact same problem and deleting the file .metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.resources/.snap did the trick for me.
Had similar problem.
Log file said exception was caused by corruption in the project tree -- a very vague description.
Deleting individual files and directories in /.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.resources didn't work for me. I had to delete the entire /.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.resources directory. I lost the entire project tree but not the projects. They were still in the workspace and just needed to be imported back into Eclipse. I also did not lose the large numbers of plugins configured for working Java, Android, PHP, C++, J2EE, etc.
This is the second time I encountered a project tree related corruption. The first time I deleted the .metadata altogether and then spent a very long time putting back all the plugins and projects. The direction the other answers here were useful in zeroing in on just the org.eclipse.core.resources directory. Seems deleting the whole directory just results in only needing to reimport all the projects.
Your mileage may vary...
This also works when you receive this error from Information Design Tool (IDT) (Business Objects BI4).
Delete .snap file from this directory.
Please note that you Will lose all your local projects. Hopefully your modifications have been recently saved to a repository.
Directory -
C:\Users\xxxxuser.name.businessobjects\bimodeler_14\workspace.metadata.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resources\
Use the clean option
I had this error. I start eclipse with "clean" option and that worked for me.
eclipse.exe -clean
Eclipse starts and all projects ok.
solution: delete .metadata folder in your last workspace.
reason: Maybe you force shutdown/restart your computer, while your eclipse still running.
Just a little tip that might help people avoid an issue that I encountered.
In my case there were multiple workspace directories on my machine. When I ran the mvn sonar:sonar goal then it created its own workspace directory, placed the snapshot (.snap files) in there, and changed a setting to tell maven to look there for changes first. However, this was not my workspace that I was using, so the snapshot was never being updated with my changes. So when maven used that snapshot it could not find the files in their old locations. So I had to eliminate that workspace to resolve the issue. This worked because maven then looked in the next workspace on its list, my workspace, for the snapshot instead of the one added (but never updated) by the sonar goal.
So you might need to search your entire hard drive for *.snap files to see if there is more one workspace being used on your machine.
Check your environment variables _JAVA_OPTION path. I had HP UFT installed on my system and I set _JAVA_OPTION to IGNOREME_JAVA_OPTION for both system and environment variable. After reboot, eclipse showed the same error " check log file". Removed the IGNOREME and eclipse no issues. This could be another possibility that could be looked at to fix the eclipse.
Hope this helps.
I also had the same problem, this happens when you force shutdown/restart your computer, while your eclipse still running.
Deleting .metadata folder worked for me. Delete all the metadata and then import your project from that same workspace.
Rather deleting whole .metadata folder, which in turns delete your projects from workspace, try to find the .snap files and delete them.
.snap files are the snapshot of workspace's temporary instance which will be saved on clean & close of workspace.
Delete all the *.Snap files in the path workspace-directory>.metadata.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resources

Eclipse Error On Startup

Any help? I really need this up and running, and reinstalling and resetting all of my plugins and settings just isn't an option at the moment.
I had the same issue. After some debugging i tried deleting the following folders from my eclipse directory
./configuration/org.eclipse.core.runtime/.manager
./configuration/org.eclipse.osgi/.manager
That fixed the issue for me. No side effects. I think this is just a cache because it recreates itself on the fly. The source code doesn't seem to treat it with any special importance if it is not found, but there is a bug that tries to parse an empty string on line 512.
Looking into the source of org.eclipse.osgi it looks like these files are somehow managed with a timestamp, so if you're doing anything that will mess with the timestamps then you'll run into this issue. I use git to manage my eclipse installation so i can revert to an earlier version if a newly installed feature starts stepping on my karma. Ran into this issue after reverting. Added it to .gitignore.
Try at least to restart eclipse with a -clean option.
Check also (just in case) your disk space! That can occur when not enough space is left on the disk, since the code shows it is reading strings (supposed to be Integer) from a file.
Try also upgrading your java used to start eclipse to the latest one (u19 instead of u13)
This error stacktrace has been reported in bug 113596 about some version of Vista: what OS are you using, and has it been updated recently? (by Windows update for instance)
A Best shot would be to use a fresh copy of eclipse and point the workspace location that you were using in the old eclipse. By this way, you will not lose your settings and will 100% avoid the startup error.
