I'm trying to use project facets in Eclipse but the "project facets" section under "project -> properties" is gone. I noticed this when switching to Eclipse Juno from Eclipse Indigo. I thought this was related to Juno, so I switched back to Indigo, only to find the "project facets" were gone there too.
I tried both versions as a fresh install and with a clean workspace.
Searching the web for this issue only came up with "go to 'project -> properties -> project facets'", but this simply isn't possible.
UPDATE:
I managed to break it down. The facet related stuff disappears after I installed the "JBossAS Tools" package from the JBoss update site (http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/development/juno/).
Steps to reproduce:
Install Eclipse Juno (4.2.0)
Install project facets from http://download.eclipse.org/releases/juno
Under "Modeling": "EMF Facet SDK (Incubation)"
Under "Web, XML, Java EE and OSGi Enterprise Development": "Eclipse Faceted Project Framework"
After a restart see that Eclipse has possibility to create a faceted project (File -> New -> Other -> Faceted Project)
Install "JBossAS Tools" from http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/development/juno/
Restart, check for faceted things, aaand it's gone.
This might depend on which install of eclipse you are using. In any case, you can download the needed packages to get Facets working.
Facets are part of the Web Tools Platform. If you can't find it in the package manager, you can download it here:
http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads/
You should create your Eclipse project using File / New / Project... / General / Faceted Project wizard or use project's popup menu Configure / Convert to Faceted From....
I installed the "JBossAS Tools" package from the nightly built update site. This didn't cause problems regarding project facets.

I am working on Blackberry webworks, Phonegap framework, Apache Ant and configured them in Eclipse 3.6 with sample index.html.
I followed the article Getting Started with PhoneGap BlackBerry WebWorks
But I am getting an error message after running the project:
"Errors running builder 'Faceted Project Validation Builder' on project 'MyProject' "
How do I properly configure the project to support cross-platform?
Right click on your project >>> Properties >>> Project Facets >>> uncheck Static web Module.
I tried the previous response and was not very successful.
Do this:-
install Eclipse Java EE Developer Tools using the Eclipse -> Help -> Install new software -> Work with -> (your Eclipse version's download repository. e.g.:) Indigo.
In the filter field type, then checkbox, Eclipse Java EE Developer Tools.
Download and let it install. No more problems.
In the maven web project.
1.Clear the maven project.
2.Build the maven project.
3.Go to the Project Facts on right click on project -> properties -> project facts.
4.On the top right side tab select the Runtimes -> select appropriate Apache version(8.5) that is installed on your machine.
5.Then Run the project.
It's Solve in my case, try once in your case.
Maybe you have a wrong item in Runtime settings of Project Facets. Right click on project >>> Properties >>> Project Facets >>> Runtime and modify it. Runtime settings of Project Facets
I usually can run zk apps on the server but the essentials app is a maven project and I cant see that option in zk studio (in eclipse).
How do I run it in eclipse?
Install the m2e plugin from the marketplace. It will give you additional options in the Run menu like "Maven install".
Note that Maven is a build tool, not a run tool. Maven only manages the classpath for you. You can then use the normal "Run as ..." of Eclipse to start it.
EDIT When you have m2e, make sure you import the project using "Import Maven project". M2e will then configure all the aspects, facets and natures.
If you already have the project imported, try "Update Project..."
If that doesn't work, try to enable the "Web Project Facet". See this blog post for details: http://www.mkyong.com/java/how-to-convert-java-project-to-web-project-in-eclipse/
I have installed m2e plugin on Eclipse Juno without any problem.
Have you tried install m2e plugin before install other plugins? it
will give you maven install option .
first of all, goto help menu then eclipse marketplace search
m2e plugin in eclipse juno/ kepler version and install the m2e plugin
I have to compile and run a Maven project that some colleagues of mine developed some years ago. I'm using Eclipse Helios on Microsoft Windows Server 2008.
In their documentation about how to compile it with Eclipse, I read that I have to install on my Eclipse:
Maven plugin (from http://m2eclipse.sonatype.org/sites/m2e )
Maven plugin extra (from http://m2eclipse.sonatype.org/sites/m2e-extras )
Subclipse plugin ( http://subclipse.tigris.org )
After installed these plugins, their document says to select the option "Checkout Maven Project from SCM" and other operations.
I've tried to install these plugins, but, first, I realized that they are antiquated.
I discovered that Maven Plugin changed name and address (now is Maven Integration for Eclipse 1.2), and that Maven Plugin Extra does not exist anymore.
Subclipse, instead, is available.
So I installed these plugins, but, afterwords, no "Checkout Maven Project from SCM" functionality was present on my Eclipse.
Then I searched online to solve this problem, and I found this thread on StackOverflow.com. It suggested to install the Maven SCM handler for Subclipse.
I've searched it on the plugin repository of Elcipse but it does not exist anymore.
Which Eclipse plugin may I use to get the "Checkout Maven Project from SCM" functionality on my Eclipse IDE ?
Thanks a lot
When you go to Window -> Preferences -> Maven -> Discovery, you have a button "Open Catalog", which opens a plugin marketplace specific to the m2e plugin. There you'll find a plugin called m2e-subclipse, which should give you the appropriate options:
Change the installed sub version to have m2 plugin. then check out as maven shows up.
Eclipse Marketplace -> Installed -> Subversive SVN -> Change -> Subversive SVN Integration for the M2E Project (Optional) and install it.
see images below.
I have recently run into same issue and found solution, as preferences trick mentioned in this post did not work for me.
All you need to do is to go back to your SVN installation (tested for subversive, guess similar for subclipse) and check m2e integration plug-in.
In my case: Eclipse Marketplace -> Installed -> Subversive SVN -> Change -> Subversive SVN Integration for the M2E Project (Optional) and install it.
I have a workaround , since I was not able to find m2e-subclipse in Window -> Preferences -> Maven -> Discovery. You need to check out the project.Once done, right click on the Project Explorer and Import->Maven->Existing Maven Project and select the checked out project and click Finish.
Just a heads up for anybody seeing this again for future versions of Eclipse.
Sonatype is no longer maintaining this:
You can either use the fork currently being maintainted in github [https://github.com/subclipse/m2e]:
https://dl.bintray.com/subclipse/releases/m2e/1.0.x/
Or you can use the eclipse maintained link for the eclipse version:
https://download.eclipse.org/technology/m2e/releases/1.9/1.9.1.20180912-1601/
Install either one by using the "install new software" link in Eclipse above "Eclipse Marketplace"
I used eclipse version 2022-12 from this website https://mergedoc.osdn.jp/
After I face this problem and try many ways. Finally, I got the solution.
Right-click on repo
Select Find/Check Out As...
Choose Check out as a project with the name specified, then input your project name alias
After checkout is finished. Right-click on the project.
Select Configure > Convert to Maven Project.
i installed m2e 1.0 latest version from here
http://download.eclipse.org/technology/m2e/releases
i had to remove the old maven integration for eclipse, and the maven integration for eclipse WTP
after installing this latest version, and restarting eclipse, i found that the maven menu disappears from the right click on project, so i though that i need the m2e extras, but i couldn't found a compatible version, please advise.
The new Maven plugin uses different project metadata (due to the move to Eclipse foundation and new package names). So it doesn't recognize older Maven projects. You have to enable Maven for every project again to create the new metadata. To do this, right click on the project, choose "Configure" and then "Convert to Maven project". Now the "Maven" submenu should appear.
What version of Eclipse are you running? In the download page they are saying that m2e is tested against Eclipse 3.6 (Helios) and 3.7 (Indigo).
The Java EE 6 Tutorial references java ee example projects available through the java ee 6 sdk update tool. The tutorial is oriented towards users of NetBeans and not Eclipse, but NetBeans is not an option for me.
I am new to Java EE and don't know how to take these samples and make an eclipse project from them.
The reason I don't just create a project and copy in the source is that I don't know which eclipse template or project structure I should use for each sample.
So, what should I do with these sample projects to get them up and running in Eclipse?
Thanks in advance.
Assuming you have all the required software to run the Java EE tutorial:
Install latest Eclipse IDE for Java EE developers.
Install Maven Integration for Eclipse (M2E) plugin from the Eclipse Marketplace (Main Menu: Help -> Eclipse Marketplace).
Install Subclipse plugin from the Eclipse Marketplace.
Install Glassfish tools plugin for your Eclipse version. Eg: Glassfish tools for Luna.
Add Glassfish server to Eclipse.
Get the Java EE Tutorial code using the Glassfish Update Tool. In my case, the Glassfish Update Tool did not bring all the codes from the example, so I checked out the Java EE tutorial code from the SVN. (File -> Import -> SVN -> Checkout Project from SVN). Create a new repository location specifying the URL. Example URL: https://svn.java.net/svn/javatutorial~svn/trunk/example.
Ones you have the examples imported to an Eclipse workspace, you can build an individual example projects as follows:
From the Eclipse project explorer window select the project folder you want to build. Example: examples/web/jsf/hello1
Right click on the project folder and select import -> Maven -> Existing Maven projects option. Tick the option to add the project to your workspace.
From the project explorer window, now select the newly added project folder.
Now build the project using option Project -> Build project option.
After the successful build, run the application using Run -> Run As -> Run on Server option.
This worked for me. I had exactly the same question and being new to everything Eclipse, I had trouble figuring this out.
From the link you provided there is a Required Software section. Basically you would need to follow all those instructions except for where NetBeans IDE is concerned.
For Eclipse related configuration I would recommend the Eclipse (Helios) online documentation. Indigo is the latest version of Eclipse but not all plugins support that version.
There is a section in the documention for creating enterprise applications:
Creating an enterprise application project
After familiarising yourself with how enterprise projects are created within Eclipse you should be able to import the sample source applications used in the Java EE tutorial without too much hassle.
You would probably want to install the GlassFish plugin for Eclipse as well.
