Issue when trying to requery on postID using facebook graph - facebook

Forgive me I'm new to the Facebook graph concept. I've read through the documentation and am a little lost on something that I want to try and do. I have been able to query posts based on a keyword such as "sailing" like so:
http://graph.facebook.com/search?q=sailing&type=post
I see that it returns a result set containing 25 of the most recent posts with the keyword provided. My issue comes when I try to take a post id and query it directly. What I want to do is to be able to take a post id and query it after a 24hr time frame to see if it has received any comments and to see how many likes it has gained since being posted.
I can take the userID_postID and query like:
http://www.facebook.com/userID/posts/postID
I can see the post with the likes but when I try this in the graph:
http://graph.facebook.com/userID/posts/postID
I get the following error message:
{
"error":
{
"message": "Unknown path components: / postID",
"type": "OAuthException",
"code": 2500
}
}
I've seen where people have commented that if you want to access a post you will need to get an access_token. I'm not sure why you need an access_token to access a post that you originally obtained without one. It doesn't seem to make sense. One thing that I have noticed when trying to do this with different posts is that this seems to be related to accessing posts of an individual rather than a fan page. Whereas a public page such as a fan page seems to return the results.
I also tried querying like:
http://graph.facebook.com/userID_postID/likes
this returns the likes for a public page such as a fan page but doesn't return anything for an individual page. Can anyone help point me in the right direction or maybe give me some explanation on what the proper way to handle this would be? Requesting an access_token from the user is something I do not want to do, this is mainly for a service that we're trying to create that allows us to survey based on a keyword. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Empty response to API call to Facebook Graph

I have been hammering away at this problem for the last day. I really hope someone can help me out. I would be very grateful.
What I am trying to do is fetch event data from a Facebook Page. I looked over the documentation, which says this about reading Pages data:
Reading
A Facebook page
Permissions
For pages that are published, you need:
An app or user access token to view fields from fully public pages.
So what I did was I obtained an app access token via:
GET https://graph.facebook.com/oauth/access_token?
client_id=YOUR_APP_ID
&client_secret=YOUR_APP_SECRET
&grant_type=client_credentials
which then returned
access_token=MY_APP_ID|MY_APP_ACCESS_TOKEN
After this I followed the documentation and made the following call
https://graph.facebook.com/v2.4/129511477069092/events?fields=id,cover,name,venue,description&access_token=MY_APP_ID|MY_APP_ACCESS_TOKEN
This returned:
{
"data": [
]
}
So after some fiddling around I was able to make the call by switching to version V2.2 and by creating an access key with Facebook API Graph explorer tool(no permissions granted).
GET https://graph.facebook.com/v2.2/129511477069092/events?
fields=id,cover,name,venue,description&
access_token=ACCESS_TOKEN_FROM_FACEBOOK_API_EXPLORER_TOOL
The page I am trying to retrieve data from is public and so are the events, so I can't figure out what is going on. I know I am super close since I am able to retrieve the data with the token provided by the Facebook API Graph Explorer Tool. The thing with using this token is that it only last a few hours and I need something that is going to last longer such as an app access token. I have done some research on Stackoverflow and found similar questions, but none of them solve my problem. Any help will be appreciated to the max! Thanks.
Looks like a bug of v2.4 to me. It works with v2.3 if you remove the deprecated venue field:
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/explorer/145634995501895/?method=GET&path=129511477069092%2Fevents%3Ffields%3Did%2Ccover%2Cname%2Cdescription&version=v2.3
If the version is changed to v2.4, it returns an empty result.
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/explorer/145634995501895/?method=GET&path=129511477069092%2Fevents%3Ffields%3Did%2Ccover%2Cname%2Cdescription&version=v2.4
There's no documentation about this in the changelog at
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/apps/changelog#v2_4
so I guess it's a bug. There's already a bug report at
https://developers.facebook.com/bugs/443054055873667/
with status assigned. If you have an app that supports v2.3, I'd suggest you prefix your request like this:
GET /v2.3/129511477069092/events?fields=id,cover,name,description

How to get Facebook page total likes number with the new Graph API (v2.4)

So recently there was a update to the Facebook Graph API and now pretty much everything requires a access_token to retrieve any type of data.
Previously you could get the number of page likes by accessing the graph like so:
http://graph.facebook.com/{page-name}
But now if you try it says you need to have a access token because of a recent update to the API. Now the issue i am having is i cant access the likes even with an access token this is the response i am getting:
Request
http://graph.facebook.com/{page-name}/?access_token={access_token}
Response
array(2) {
["name"] "Page Name"
["id"] "Page Id"
}
Now at first i thought the access token wasn't being generated with the correct scopes but i am 99% sure you only need read_stream to pull that type of data.
Second thought is that they have removed the ability to acces likes of any page and you need a page token to receive that type of data or finally i am missing something incredibly small here and its still achievable?
So my question is can you still get the number of likes of any page using the Facebook Graph API and if the answer is yes how do you do it?
any help appreciated
This can help you! Just add ?fields=likes after the page name/id. You can use any access token for fetching data!
graph.facebook.com/{page_name}?fields=likes&access_token={token}
The Graph API v2.4 reduces the number of fields in default responses.
https://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/2015/07/08/graph-api-v2.4/
Fewer default fields for faster performance: To help improve performance on mobile network connections, we've reduced the number of fields that the API returns by default. You should now use the ?fields=field1,field2 syntax to declare all the fields you want the API to return.
If you do ?fields=likes it should show up.
You can do like this:
https://graph.facebook.com/v2.4/{page_id}/fields=likes

facebook graph api returns empty data array

I wanted to get the events for a closed group (which has tons of events) via the facebook graph api, but I only got
{
"data": [
]
}
in the Graph API Explorer even though I was using an auth token with user_events enabled. Just to be sure, I enabled every single permission for the token but got the same result.
what am I doing wrong?
I think I just found the answer to my problem; there was nothing wrong!
What I thought were events coming up were actually events that happened in the past, shown in the group/events page; I guess those aren`t aren't accessible.
I think I'll settle with using FQL as offered as a solution in this question.

How to get name of Facebook user that left comment using FB.Event.subscribe

I'm trying to figure out how to get the name of the Facebook user that left a comment in the Comment Social plugin using FB.Event.subscribe and the comment.create event.
I only see 2 properties on the response object:
response.href: URL of the page that the comment was left on
response.commentID: ID of the comment thread
Is it possible to implement client side code to get the name of the facebook user that left the comment? I'm trying to save an extra roundtrip for my server to make a call the graph API to get all the comments then try to figure out who the user was that left the most recent one. I thought that there might be a way to run an FQL query, but I'm at a loss here.
I figured this would be an obvious thing for the facebook event to expose, but their documentation is so poor I haven't been able to see anything.
Update: I've tried using FB.api as suggested by another user and using /me but I can't use that since hte user leaving the comment hasn't granted me any permissions. This was confusing because they logged in to post the comment in the comment box AND the user's name is public info if you go to the user's facebook page. So I need a way to query the commenting user's name without using /me in FB.api.
This method definitely works to get a name.. but there is a race condition issue if it is a thread that is getting a ton of comments, as the request to get the comments might not get sent before another comment is made:
FB.Event.subscribe('comment.create', function(comment) {
FB.api('comments', {'ids': comment.href}, function(res) {
var data = res[comment.href].data;
console.log(data.pop().from.name);
});
});
This works without the user authenticating your app as well.
After reading TMC's comment below I realized that it is not possible without permissions. If you want to this then you will have to ask every commenter to grant you basic permissions.
ORIGINAL ANSWER
You can use Facebook Javascript SDK function FB.api which works the same way as PHP SDK's api function but returns a JSON string. Have a look at this page for documentation. You might also like to have a look at Comment Object Documentation.
Comment has a property from which gives the id and name of the user.

List of Facebook error codes

I'm looking for a list of all Facebook can return when you try to fetch infos using Graph API. Can anyone help?
Facebook returns a 400 HTTP error, and a JSON content like:
{
"error": {
"type": "OAuthException",
"message": "Invalid OAuth access token signature."
}
}
I'm searching the different returns of the same kind it is possible to get.
Facebook used to have this published somewhere, but for whatever reason it was removed. But you can find the full list here:
http://www.takwing.idv.hk/tech/fb_dev/faq/general/gen_10.html
There seems to be a list now for the errors.
I posted answer for the same question here: Facebook Graph API error code list
(I found the list here https://developers.facebook.com/docs/graph-api/using-graph-api/error-handling)
In case Takwing's copy ever comes down, here's another copy: http://fbdevwiki.com/wiki/Error_codes
These codes were primarily for the REST API, but they do also come up with the Graph API. Some of the Graph API calls have underlying FQL calls that return the FQL error codes. And the direct FQL queries are still part of the currently accepted API.
Update: I'm trying to keep this list up-to-date. Please feel free to make changes as you encounter new errors.
I am trying to keep an updated list of error codes based on previous outdated information.
You can find the repo here http://github.com/phwd/fbec and it has been updated with Test User and Credit Error codes from the Facebook Documentation.
Currently looking for the constant name for "Error Code 2500" and some error descriptions may have changed. I hope to keep on top of this.
There is an official error code page, now:
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/marketing-api/error-reference/
It still doesn't look comprehensive...
