Here are some steps of what I am trying to accomplish:
1) In XCode, I am creating a new single view project.
2) Without the app doing anything, I am deploying it to my iPhone.
3) What I would like to do is specify a setting for the app so that when it gets built/installed on my iPhone through xCode, it will trick my iPhone into thinking I'm in a specific city.
4) When I open maps, it should default the current location to the city specified in #3.
5) Once my phone pings the carrier it will then pick up my current location and be accurate once again.
The problem I am running into is that I can not find the place to specify the default city location in #3.
Figured this out.
TO accomplish, you need to go into file menu -> Product -> Scheme -> Edit Scheme -> Core Location -> Default Location -> SET TO WHEREVER YOU WOULD LIKE

I want to develop same app (same coding ) but with different names .So gone for renaming the app.I tried changing varoius parameters like Bundle Name, Bundle Display Name, Product Name and clean the app and then build it.But build is succeeded .After fraction of second my I see the status Finished running 'appname' on iphone 6.0 simulator and my app stops running.What should I exactly change to rename my app ?
Go to the project editor and select the target you want (will go blue)
Double click on the Target name in the target view window.
Type the new name
Bundle Display Name and Bundle Identifier.
The Bundle Display Name for the name that is displayed under the app icon on your device.
The Bundle Identifier to make the device, simulator and the app store understand that there are two different apps.
change project name and click enter button.
I am using settings bundle to insert some items in iPhone's default settings app.
now when selecting my app name from iPhone's settings app , can we able to list data from Database of my application.
When checking some URLs, it seems that we cant show dynamic data in the settings app.
What i am trying to do is,
Settings -> MyAppName -> When tapped MyAppName
I want to fetch data from my DB and display it like below in the uitableview.also to add new entry by tapping + ( add button ) from there.
Fruits
Vegtables
Icecream
Chocolates
Mobiles
like that and when tapping on the each entry take it to the next set of list. and also there they can add new entry
Can this all be done?
Please let me know
No, sorry, it can't be done. You'll have to have the settings inside your app and include your own view controller for the same purpose.
No you can not do this, because as a app you can write only to the documents directory of your app. So to have something displayed in the settings you have to create Settings.bundle in your main bundle. You can read from your main bundle the Settings.bundle files but you can not write to it.
I just finished my iPhone app and I want to make it Universal. I've read a few posts already but they're a bit old (2010 or so).
What I got:
Simple iPhone app, recently created (iOS 5 - Storyboard), with three screens.
My app represents a table with three cards that you can flip touching them. The user can input (on the second screen) text to be displayed on the cards.
When I created the project I checked "Universal" so I have two Storyboards. After that nothing else I did had to do with iPad (except for a line on my "contact support" email option where I used UIModalPresentationPageSheet).
What I'd like to accomplish:
Same app on the iPad: my application is so straightforward I don't have any use for split views or details. I just want the same objects and layout but with bigger and better graphics (table, cards, etc).
I like it because it'd make a great introduction-level migration.
I have no idea where to start. When I run the iPad simulator a white screen comes up and that's it.
Well this is done.
As with almost everything, this is pretty easy once you know what to do.
I'd say that for those cases like mine, where the UI doesn't change in more than sizes or (x,y) coordinates the process could be summarized like this:
Replicate every UI element on the iPad Storyboard (copy and paste will do) and adjust position and size as you see fit
Re-wire everything again. Every button, segue (you'll have to add the segue name again too), etc.
Verify within your code every place where your UI is affected (e.g. x,y coordinates), identify whether the app is running on an iPhone or iPad, and divide your code accordingly
If you have any localization on the application you'll have to update the new UI elements on the iPad Storyboard
Select the target for testing on the simulator and try it out
In order to identify in which device the app is running you can use the following:
if(UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad) {
//I'm running on the iPad
} else {
//I'm running on the iPhone
}
And that's it. Again, in a simple case like mine the reuse of code is absolute (100%), the new code you'll have to add is minimum (basically IF statements where needed), and the UI elements duplication is as easy as copy and paste.
I hope this is useful to someone else and if you have recommendations to improve this they're more than welcomed.
Open the Storyboard file in finder,Copy your iPhone-Storyboard and rename it Main-iPad.storyboard
Inside xCode, right click on the storyboard -> “open as” -> “Source Code”
Search for targetRuntime="iOS.CocoaTouch"and make it targetRuntime="iOS.CocoaTouch.iPad"
Now save everything and reopen Xcode -> the iPad-Storyboard contains the same as the iPhone-file but everyting could be disarranged you have to arrange it by your self.
Finally to get the iPad format also change the code in the MainStoryboard_iPad.storyboard from: to
Then go to your "StroryBoardEx-Info.plist" file,search for "Main nib file base name (iPad)" and make it "Main-iPad.storyboard"
If you just want to reuse your iphone storyboard, just go to your project settings. In TARGETS tab Info, there are rows 'Main storyboard file base name' and 'Main storyboard file base name (iPad)'. Just edit the iPad one to have the same value as the other. In my case I had to edit it as 'Main storyboard file base name (iPad)' with value 'MainStoryboard_iPhone'.
I am developing an iPhone app which uses Settings.bundle to let the user choose some options.
I have two questions regarding this:
How can I completely remove/hide some setting? (for instance if the app is running on iPhone 3G I want to hide settings regarding the compass)
How can I disable (fade) a setting? (for instance, I have two Toggle Switches and if the first is set to OFF the second one has no meaning and should be disabled)
You can't. Your app cannot dynamically influence what is shown in the Settings app.
Can an iphone app change its home screen icon and name after installation?
What i want to do is make a generic application for several of our clients, that upon installation and login by users it detects which of our client it applies to and changes its icon and name to reflect the appropriate branding.
Is this going to be possible? Or are we simply going to have to make (and submit for approval...) one app per client?
Thanks
Updated: since iOS 10 it's possible to change the application icon from the list of pre-defined ones in the Info.plist. However display name still stays the constant.
Outdated: Since app's name is in Info.plist which resides with app's icon in app's bundle (which is readonly) - it cannot. You can only change your app's name and icon after releasing an update into the appstore. You may though change application icon's badge value. But as I see in your scenario - it won't fit your needs at all.
