Pay Pal Recurring Payment Integration - paypal

I have a site which will receive money from customers in a regular period(Say once in a week). I am storing my clients details in my database and i want withdraw money form my customers account with out prompting them for authentication every time. The amount will be vary with respect to the customers. How can i do this with pay pal?Do i need to buy pay pal pro for implementing this.I read some docs related to recurring payments and reference payment services of pay pal, but i don't know how it will work when my business pay pal account registered in Australia.
Thanks in advance.

We recently (Jan 2013) implemented a recurring payment integration with PalPal for an Australian site (paypal account).
We used;
PayFlow Pro (doc:
https://www.x.com/sites/default/files/payflowgateway_guide.pdf)
Recurring Payments module (doc: https://www.x.com/sites/default/files/pp_payflowpro_recurringbilling_guide.pdf)
I can't say the experience was a pleasant one, a lot of reading, phone calls to support, and hair-pulling - but we got there in the end.
Depending on your situation I would suggest looking at Pin Payment Gateway (https://pin.net.au/) as an alternative.

You can use PayPal Recurring Payment method for this.
As you said you do not want you want to withdraw money from there account without authenticating them again, you have to create a subscription profile of customer on paypal via an NVP API (CreateRecurringPaymentsProfile).
After you get the Subscription ID of the customer with a success message you need not to store customers details (card details), which is also illegal to do so.
While calling the
CreateRecurringPaymentsProfile method of API
You need to set the following fields.
BILLINGPERIOD = MONTH or DAY (according to your need)
BILLINGFREQUENCY = 2 (means after 2 BILLINGPERIOD )
TOTALBILLINGCYCLES = 10
For Example : if BILLINGPERIOD = MONTH & BILLINGFREQUENCY = 2 & TOTALBILLINGCYCLES = 10 then automatic payment will occur after every 2 months till 10 payment cycles are completed.

Preapproval API scenario in trial credit scenario

We want to offer a online service that uses a credit system.
Initially we want to offer x amount of credits as a free trial. To activate this trial the user agrees to a subscription via PayPal (but does not pay anything at that time)
1) Is it possible to set up using Preapproval API, if not is there a better suited API
2) Can it be setup through PayPal so that the user does not need an existing PayPal account or to create a new one. If there is a way to do this other than preapproval API please let me know as well.
3) We want the billing to be automatic when the user credits run out. Therefore there is no set time, e.g 1 month, when each user is charged. Is this possible?
Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks
You have a few different options:
Reference Transactions (no cost requires approval from PayPal)
Enhanced Recurring Billing/Automatic Payments (cannot be used with a Pro or Advanced Accounts) Has a cost associated with it ($19.99 monthly)
Recurring Billing with PayPal Payments Pro Payflow or PayPal Payments Advanced. Has a cost associated with it ($10.00 monthly in addition to the cost of the Payflow/Advanced account)
Here are the details from the three different options:
Reference Transactions, which does require that you call into PayPal Customer Support and that your account is approved for this feature.
Reference transactions does allow for guest checkout billing.
From the PayPal Documentation, Recurring payments using reference transactions enable you to handle payments for varying amounts of money on a varying schedule.
Reference Transaction Guide
Enhanced Recurring Billing/Automatic Billing
If you do not plan to uses PayPal Payments Pro or Advanced at any time you can get setup with Enhanced Recurring Billing/ Automatic Billing
Automatic Billing Guide
From the PayPal Documentation:
You can create Automatic Billing buttons for your website by using a tool on the PayPal website. If you're a power user, you can write the HTML code for PayPal hosted Automatic Billing buttons yourself.
With Automatic Billing buttons, buyers agree to pay you automatically when you bill them, up to a limit that they choose. You set the parameters for the limits they choose. Automatic billing allows Guest Checkout, so you can bill a credit card.
PayPal Payments Pro Payflow/Advanced
For PayPal Payments Pro Payflow/Advanced you can setup Recurring Billing as well. Payflow Pro allows you to process credit cards directly. Here is the information on Recurring Billing through Payflow:

Variable monthly recurring payments in UK

I'm trying to find a payment provider that allows me to process variable subscription payments - I have an SaaS offering which is to be charged for on the usage of it, so the monthly costs will be variable.
E.g I could have to bill:
Jan Fab
User 1 £10 £15
User 2 £25 £20
Initially I thought that paypal would be ok with their automatic payments, but it does not appear you can update the billing amounts via the API - something that is fairly key.
It seems that Authorize.Net would do the trick, or any other processor, but the catch is I dont have an internet merchant account at the minute - and don't really want to have to sort on until things are off the ground.
I have also had a look at Sassy, http://saasy.com/, but this doesn't allow variable monthly billing - only ondemand "top ups".
Any suggestions on providers, or should I look to switch to a "credit" / "topup" model?
I see 2 options:
Use PayPal Recurring Billing and just alter the recurring billing profile before it charges each month. Sort of a pain and there is definitely room for error here. Not the best option IMO.
Use Reference Transactions with PayPal. You would build your own recurring billing logic and essentially just charge the customer what you need to each billing period.
Since you are in UK, you could use PayPal Payments Pro, BraintreePayments or Stripe (in beta) & build your own recurring billing logic on top. Or you could get one of these gateways & use it in a plug-&-play ready recurring solution.

Paypal Recurring billing - pro? standard?

I am setting up a site where users can subscribe on a yearly basis.
I have it complete through the payment pro api but completely missed the charges.
If i understand it correctly, its £20 a month for pro and £20 a month for repeat billing.
Is this correct?
To create a subscription site, is paypal pro my only option ? does paypal offer other, cheaper options?
Really confused with their site and information.
You could use PayPal Website Payments Standard and use subscription buttons. There is no monthly charge for this service. The only charge would be a transaction fee for each transaction or subscription charge.

PayPal Payments Pro: Way to charge One-time fee when modifying a recurring profile?

From a business perspective: Clients may have a subscription for $29 a month. Now they want the next tier ($59/month). They change tiers mid-month. Now, not only do I want to modify their existing profile to $59/month, but I would like to charge a one-time fee of $15 (Assuming the user made the change mid-month, $15 is my prorated amount).
Is there any way to do this with PayPal Payments Pro (Previously "Website Payments Pro")?
I have already tried:
OPTIONALTRX
-Only valid for PayPal Payflow Pro
TRIALAMT
-Only useful if I had used it when creating the initial recurring profile. Even if I did, I don't think I am allowed to make the amount higher
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Recurring Payments in PayPal

I am trying to use the Recurring payment API offered by PayPal.
I have a scenario which I am not able to address directly. It goes like this.
We have a website where we sell some services. Now the services are charged per user license. A user can buy/cancel user license in between. We want to offer the customer a recurring billing option. We have to notice here that the amount may vary each billing cycle based on the number of user licenses the customer uses during that cycle.
Is there any way I can achieve this using PayPal recurring Payment API's.
I realize this is a very old post, but it still shows up for Google searches, so I thought I'd add:
Paypal does allow you to do this now, using their new adaptive payments api.
Authorize.net also has a service that might work called Customer Information Manager.
The recurring payment option is a fixed amount that the customer pre-agrees to pay each month (or period). To do what you're trying to do, a customer would have to pre-agree to pay whatever amount you decide to charge at a later time. This means pre-authorizing an unknown payment amount, which will not be allowed by any payment service.
Your only options are:
Bill the variable amount each month (i.e. no subscription).
Set up a subscription where the monthly amount is the maximum that could potentially be billed, and then refund the difference each month.
Good luck with #2 - I would never agree to such a thing as a customer, personally.
What you're looking for is covered in the UK by the Direct Debit system, however given the potential for abuse it's very tightly controlled and there are a lot of restrictions and regulations governing it.
I'd strongly suggest you just set up a monthly invoicing system that just bills the client each month.
I don't know its meaning full or not as it is a very old post.
Instead of creating recurring profile on PayPal Server, You can store the customer's credit card on the PayPal using REST API: https://developer.paypal.com/docs/api/#vault then every month you can fetch it and charge it like recurring Payment Or When client is no longer with the services then just remove its card from PayPal.
I suppose Authorize.net SIM method also does the same.
Hope this make sense.
