Did anyone else expierience something like this yet or is someone able to analyze what is wrong? I would really appreciate your help.
Try to use the clean option :
Edit the eclipse.ini file located in your Eclipse install directory and insert -clean as the first line.
Or edit the shortcut you use to start Eclipse and add -clean as the first argument.

after Eclipse was hanging a first time ... I am not sure anymore at which step exactly, but somewhere when trying to Project->Mouse Context Menu->JPA Tools->Generate Tables from Entities
Eclipse (Kepler Service Release 2, 4.3.2.M20140221-1700 under Win 7 64bit)
after a restart all my data source explorer connections were gone (> 30) :-(
good that I exported most of them, but I removed the passwords and thus the re-import
is still time-consuming and ugly
the process Initializing connections and drivers never went away again (at least > 15 min and not after stopping this process Cancel Requested)
the import of one foo.xml connections file succeeded, but the 2nd on will always crash Eclipse again with the empty list again
I did not find my old backup in <myworkspaye>\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.datatools.connectivity\ServerProfiles.bak
even closing the only JPA project and restarting did not help
It may be unrelated, but I removed (obviously unsuccessfully) some earlier installed Toad Extension Plugin a long time ago which now throws errors in the .metadata/.log (and may have thrown it for some time already):
megs of logs of this (10 just filled rolled-over log files)
it also shows two entries Toad Extension under Window Preferences
I found similar folders of types .metadata/.plugins/com.dell.toadext*, .metadata/.plugins/com.quest.toadext* and .metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.runtime/.settings/com.{dell|quest}.*

after moving out all the above mentioned .metadata/.plugin/*toad* folders the never-ending process went away, but importing db connection profiles more than once is not possible (Eclipse hanging again)
also the toad extension is not removed this way
but at least only one such exception in the logs now :-/
I guess I'll run through the complete cycle of installing/setting up a fresh Eclipse install or better workspace :-/

thanx in advance
It seems you have problems with the eclipse.core.runtime i would reinstall the IDE.
Eclipse cannot start in Ubuntu and gives an error log - java.lang classNotFoundException

Look into your home directory if there is some eclipse file or folder and delete them. You can see them with "CTRL + H" on your /home.
Or try to clean your workspace.
Or try to delete the .snap file located in the directory :
/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.resources
Or try to reinstall
Or try to upgrade
I just updated my Eclipse from Galileo to Juno. I created a new workspace and imported a Java Spring MVC based project. When I open it, it begins 'Loading descriptor' and then an error message pops up: An internal error occurred during: "Loading descriptor for mta_pfm.". If I open it using Galileo, there is no error. I tried to disable the validation of XML file in Juno, but it does not work. I have no idea how to fix it now. Please help. Thanks

Some of your projects file may be incompatible with Juno (Juno in it's first release is not very stable, I recommend downloading the official update patches or even better - moving to Kepler which feels more solid).
Anyway, Eclipse can take some runtime arguments as described here: http://help.eclipse.org/indigo/index.jsp?topic=%2Forg.eclipse.platform.doc.isv%2Freference%2Fmisc%2Fruntime-options.html
Edit your Juno eclipse.exe shortcut and run "'...\eclipse.exe' -clean" to refresh your project files.
Remember to remove the argument once it's fixed as you have no need to clean the project files every time you start eclipse.
Try to start eclipse in clean mode from the command line
eclipse -clean
When I try to load Eclipse (an earlier version -- 1.0.67), I get an error: "Error has occured, please check log file" as shown in this [image][1].
In the log file, the error was as displayed in this image: [errorimage][2]. What could be the problem? How can it be rectified? Please help me on this.
