How to create a hierarchical tree - jasper-reports

I am using iReport 4.2 and I am trying to do the following
from database I get data in BOM like format (or tree format) and now I need to shift fields right according to the level. I am doing a hierarchical tree
for example
A.
A.a
A.b
B.
B.a
B.a.a
Any suggestions. I did some research and I don't even know what to look for :)

I wrote the following select where I changed the ids with blanks multiplied with the level
select ocs_season_questionnaire_id ,id, code, title, description, 0, '1'
from ocs_season_report_unit
where supervisor_id is null and ocs_season_questionnaire_id = 5
union all
select C.ocs_season_questionnaire_id, C.id, C.code, C.title, C.description, depth+1, xid||'.'||C.id
from sumthis P
inner join ocs_season_report_unit C on P.id = C.supervisor_id
)
select id, lpad('', depth*2)||title as title, description from sumthis where ocs_season_questionnaire_id = $P{qu_id}
It is not the best solution so if anybody knows a better one please respond.
thank you

SQL Server: How to customize one column in Order By clause out of many other columns in order by

Order by ID,Ord,BM_Code,LineItem,BrokerName'
Now broker Name is not coming as alphabetical order and it is the issue.
see this line at the bottom Order by ID,Ord,BM_Code,LineItem,BrokerName
When i try to change this order by like Order by ID,Ord,BM_Code,LineItem,BrokerName IN (SELECT BrokerName FROM #Brokers ORDER BY BrokerName ASC)' then getting error like clause is invalid in views, inline functions, derived tables, subqueries, and common table expressions, unless TOP, OFFSET or FOR XML is also specified.
in my order by there are many columns and data is getting order by that way but i need to show broker name in alphabetical order but i am not being able. so please some one guide me how can i customize this sql.
Here i have not attached my full store procedure code because it is very large. looking for suggestion & help. Thanks
Short version
The ORDER BY is doing what is expected - ordering first by ID, then Ord, then BM_Code, then LineItem, then BrokerName.
Within ID 76187, the next field to order by is Ord - which it sorts from 30911, to 31097.
If it previously ordered by BrokerName, it was only by chance - or that Ord was ordered the same way as BrokerName.
My initial suggestion is to re-order your sort e.g., ORDER BY ID, BM_Code, LineItem, BrokerName, Ord
Longer explanation of issue
In SQL, underlying data is treated as a set and ordering doesn't matter.
For example, if you have a variable #x and you were testing IF #x IN (1,2,3,4,5) will produce the same result as IF #x in (5,4,3,2,1).
In your example, you're putting an ORDER BY into the sub-query you're checking with the IN e.g., ORDER BY ... BrokerName IN (SELECT BrokerName FROM #Brokers ORDER BY BrokerName ASC). The order of that sub-query isn't allowed, and wouldn't do anything anyway.
The only sort that matters (other than for a few things like TOP) is the final sort - when displaying the data.
That being said, even if you removed the ORDER BY in the sub-query, it wouldn't help you with your issue
The SQL is not likely to work anyway - ORDER BY needs a value - you may have needed to make it CASE WHEN BrokerName IN (...) THEN 0 ELSE 1 END
Which also won't help, as the issue is that Ord is sorted before BrokerName anyway.
UPDATE following comment
Fundamentally, the statement that provides the actual report is
SET #sql = '
Select XX.*,'''' scale,Isnull(AllowComma,''FALSE'') AllowComma,Isnull(AllowedDecimalPlace,''0'') AllowedDecimalPlace,
Isnull(AllowPercentageSign,''FALSE'') AllowPercentageSign,Isnull(CurrencySign,'''') CurrencySign,Isnull(BM_Denominator,'''') BM_Denominator
From (<a whole lot of calculations/cpode>) XX
Left Outer Join tblLiConfig ZZ
On XX.Section=ZZ.Section And XX.LineItem=ZZ.LI And ZZ.Ticker='''+#Ticker+'''
Order by ID,Ord,BM_Code,LineItem,BrokerName'
The last line on there provides the ordering of the data coming from this procedure.
To get a different order, you need to change the order of the fields shown - moving BrokerName more towards the start of the list, and Ord towards the end.
e.g.,
SET #sql = '
Select XX.*,'''' scale,Isnull(AllowComma,''FALSE'') AllowComma,Isnull(AllowedDecimalPlace,''0'') AllowedDecimalPlace,
Isnull(AllowPercentageSign,''FALSE'') AllowPercentageSign,Isnull(CurrencySign,'''') CurrencySign,Isnull(BM_Denominator,'''') BM_Denominator
From (<a whole lot of calculations/cpode>) XX
Left Outer Join tblLiConfig ZZ
On XX.Section=ZZ.Section And XX.LineItem=ZZ.LI And ZZ.Ticker='''+#Ticker+'''
Order by ID,BrokerName,BM_Code,LineItem,Ord'
The above probably sorts by BrokerName too early - but it's up to you to determine what you need.

Cannot get a result by Max date

I'm trying to get the highlighted result only as it's the latest date. First time I've asked a question here so I apologize in advance if this isn't clear. Thanks
By using the following query
SELECT
MAX(A.Insp_Date) AS Last_Insp_Date
,A.Doc_ID
,A.Service_Call_ID
,A.Customer_ID
,A.Address_Code
,A.State
,A.Branch
,B.HydLoc
,B.FlwOutSz
,B.StaticPSI
,B.ResidualPSI
,B.PititPSI
,B.FlwGPM
FROM [dbo].[fofHydrntInspHdr] AS A
LEFT OUTER JOIN [dbo].[fofHYD2800FlwTstRT] AS B
ON A.Doc_ID = B.Doc_ID
WHERE A.Doc_ID > 0
AND A.Address_Code = 'GEN0021'
GROUP BY
A.Doc_ID
,A.Service_Call_ID
,A.Customer_ID
,A.Address_Code
,A.State
,A.Branch
,B.HydLoc
,B.FlwOutSz
,B.StaticPSI
,B.ResidualPSI
,B.PititPSI
,B.FlwGPM
I've also tried using max doc_id and it still doesn't work. Appreciate any help.
Another option that shouldn't require two scans of your table is to filter for the latest using a window function:
with r as
(
SELECT
A.Insp_Date AS Last_Insp_Date
,A.Doc_ID
,A.Service_Call_ID
,A.Customer_ID
,A.Address_Code
,A.State
,A.Branch
,B.HydLoc
,B.FlwOutSz
,B.StaticPSI
,B.ResidualPSI
,B.PititPSI
,B.FlwGPM
,DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY A.Insp_Date DESC) AS r
FROM [dbo].[fofHydrntInspHdr] AS A
LEFT OUTER JOIN [dbo].[fofHYD2800FlwTstRT] AS B
ON A.Doc_ID = B.Doc_ID
WHERE A.Doc_ID > 0
AND A.Address_Code = 'GEN0021'
)
SELECT
Insp_Date AS Last_Insp_Date
,Doc_ID
,Service_Call_ID
,Customer_ID
,Address_Code
,State
,Branch
,HydLoc
,FlwOutSz
,StaticPSI
,ResidualPSI
,PititPSI
,FlwGPM
FROM r
WHERE r = 1;
As an aside, I would advise against aliasing your tables with A, B, C etc as they don't relate to the table and make understanding the query later on more awkward. In this case, aliases like h and ft would convey that one table is the Headers and the other the Flow Tests, whilst also reducing character count.
It also looks like you have some bad duplication going on in your results there, which suggests that either your query is not joining and filtering appropriately or your data is messy.

oracle: grouping on merged columns

I have a 2 tables FIRST
id,rl_no,adm_date,fees
1,123456,14-11-10,100
2,987654,10-11-12,30
3,4343,14-11-17,20
and SECOND
id,rollno,fare,type
1,123456,20,bs
5,634452,1000,bs
3,123456,900,bs
4,123456,700,bs
My requirement is twofold,
1, i first need to get all columns from both tables with common rl_no. So i used:
SELECT a.ID,a.rl_no,a.adm_date,a.fees,b.rollno,b.fare,b.type FROM FIRST a
INNER JOIN
SECOND b ON a.rl_no = b.rollno
The output is like this:
id,rl_no,adm_date,fees,rollno,fare,type
1,123456,14-11-10,100,123456,20,bs
1,123456,10-11-12,100,123456,900,bs
1,123456,14-11-17,100,123456,700,bs
2,Next i wanted to get the sum(fare) of those rollno that were common between the 2 tables and also whose fare >= fees from FIRST table group by rollno and id.
My query is:
SELECT x.ID,x.rl_no,,x.adm_date,x.fees,x.rollno,x.type,sum(x.fare) as "fare" from (SELECT a.ID,a.rl_no,a.adm_date,a.fees,b.rollno,b.fare,b.type FROM FIRST a
INNER JOIN
SECOND b ON a.rl_no = b.rollno) x, FIRST y
WHERE x.rollno = y.rl_no AND x.fare >= y.fees AND x.type IS NOT NULL GROUP BY x.rollno,x.ID ;
But this is throwing in exceptions.
ORA-00979: not a GROUP BY expression
00979. 00000 - "not a GROUP BY expression"
The expected output will be like this:
id,rollno,adm_date,fare,type
1,123456,14-11-10,1620,bs
So could someone care to show an oracle newbie what i'm doing wrong here?
It looks like there's a couple different problems here;
Firstly, you're trying to group by an x.ID column which doesn't exist; it looks like you'll want to add ID to the selected columns in your sub-query.
Secondly, when aggregating with GROUP BY, all selected columns need to be either listed in the GROUP BY statement or aggregated. If you're grouping by rollno and ID, what do you want to have happen to all the extra values for adm_date, fees, and type? Are those always going to be the same for each distinct rollno and ID pair?
If so, simply add them to the GROUP BY statement, ie,
GROUP BY adm_date, fees, type, rollno, ID
If not, you'll need to work out exactly how you want to select which one to be output; If you've got output like your example (adding in an ID column here)
ID,adm_date,fees,rollno,fare,type
1,14-11-10,100,123456,20,bs
1,10-11-12,100,123456,900,bs
1,14-11-17,100,123456,700,bs
Call that result set 'a'. If I run;
SELECT a.ID, a.rollno, SUM(a.fare) as total_fare
FROM a
GROUP BY a.ID, a.rollno
Then the result will be a single row;
ID,rollno,total_fare
1,123456,1620
So, if you also select the adm_date, fees, and type columns, oracle has no idea what you mean to do with them. You're not using them for grouping, and you're not telling oracle how you want to pick which one to use.
You could do something like
SELECT a.ID,
FIRST(a.adm_date) as first_adm_date,
FIRST(a.fees) as first_fees,
a.rollno,
SUM(a.fare) as total_fare,
FIRST(a.type) as first_type
FROM a
GROUP BY a.ID, a.rollno
Which would give the result;
ID,first_adm_date,first_fees,rollno,total_fare,first_type
1,14-11-10,100,123456,1620,bs
I'm not sure if that's what you mean to do though.

Specifice order to tables in postgres

I just created a temporary table as:
create temporary table userAndProductSales as
select p.p_name, u.u_name, u.s_price, u.quantity
from product p
join userAndStates u
on p.s_id = u.s_id
Now I want to select some columns with a particular order. For example, I want the select to give me an output of:
u_name1 p_name1
u_name1 p_name2
u_name1 p_name3
u_name1 p_name4
...
u_name2 p_name1
u_name2 p_name2
u_name2 p_name3
....
and so on and so forth. How do I get this ouput? I've tried something on the lines of:
select (select u_name from userandproductsales order by u_name), p_name from userandproductsales
but I'm getting an error
UPDATE: Figured out that the table I'm joining isn't giving me the correct data I want. Thanks for the help though.
Here is how to use ORDER BY :
SELECT * from userandstatesales
order by u_name , p_name
Unless there is a reason for creating a temporary table (like needing to access it later in the same session), you should avoid the expense and simply do a order by from your select. For example:
select p.p_name, u.u_name, u.s_price, u.quantity
from product p
join userAndStates u
on p.s_id = u.s_id
order by u.u_name, p.p_name;

Add table to query

I have query where I select id_categories and categories_names, now I added new table categories_description, same as categories_names but with descriptions (of course it has id_category too), how to modify this query to select k.id_category, kn.name and my new category_description from my new table categories_descriptions (sometimes there is no description for category).
SELECT
c.id_category,
cn.name,
FROM
categories c,
categories_names cn
WHERE
c.id_category = cn.id_category
I am using PostgreSQL but I think in MySQL it will be the same.
You mentioned that sometimes the description is missing so LEFT JOIN should be suitable:
SELECT c.id_category,
cn.name,
cd.category_description
FROM
categories c
JOIN categories_names cn ON c.id_category = cn.id_category
LEFT JOIN categories_descriptions cd ON cn.id_category = cd.id_category
