I am very very new to heroku and Git, someone please help me.. where are the local project files located in my system.I have created a facebook app following this https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/facebook .I have a URL generated for my app and it runs fine. How do i edit this app. They have shown a sample of editing index.erb file in views folder and I am not able to find it.Where are the project source files?I know this sounds very basic and trivial but then I dont know and I am stuck.
The source files are on your computer right where you called "git clone" (see dev center link). With "git clone", you get the source code downloaded to your folder.
Here´s another tutorial for Heroku: http://www.devils-heaven.com/heroku-free-ssl-facebook-apps/
Btw, Heroku can be complicated for a beginner, i´d suggest using another webhost without GIT.

I am trying to help a friend of mine on his unity project, but I can't clone his project properly. The project I get doesn't have any scenes and no sln file. Does anybody know a solution?
Thanks!
From what you've said, it seems like your friend hasn't put the scenes and the sln file in his project. Check the repository on github to see if they are in there. If not, ask him to put them in there, but if so it's probably a problem with Git.
Also, how are you cloning it?
This might be a simple question but I am not able to get around it. I have a Flutter project in my Windows 10 machine and checked in to my private repository in GitHub via Android Studio.
Now I want to create a same working environment on another Windows 10 or Mac. My question is, how can I checkout the project and work on it as it is missing the supported files like .metadat, project_name.iml etc?
Below image shows what I have in the github right now.
This is more of a git question than anything else. If you have files locally that you need to have exactly the same on another machine, you should check those in. If those files are in the .gitignore file in your project, that might be for a good reason, but if you really want to sync them, you should remove them from the .gitignore and, for each file, git add -f [the file], then commit and push those files.
I have heard that cryengine V provides access to the full source code, but I can't find where to download the source code.
Anyone can tell me how to download the source code of cryengine V?
There are two ways to get CryEngine's source code from Github:
Download specific revision. For this, visit CryEngine public repository on Github, find a large green button on the right titled "Clone or download", and in a dropdown menu choose "Download ZIP". It will download a zipped version of the source code for you.
Via Git client. For that, install Git from its official site. If you already have Git installed, use some Git GUI client to clonse the repository, or create a directory, cd to that directory in console/terminal, and run command:
git clone https://github.com/CRYTEK-CRYENGINE/CRYENGINE.git
This way will also allow you to make pull requests to send fixes back to Crytek if you like.
PS. In order to get SDKs which contains much of the Sandbox content as well as samples, you possibly would also like to download GameSDK repository.
PS2. These instructions will let you get the latest version of CryEngine. In order to download specific one, move to releases tab on Github website.
There you go: https://www.cryengine.com/get-cryengine
Just register and you get the engine downloader.
I have a nodejs app on openshift an one of the things the app does is write a text file.
Problem is, whenever I update code in the app and deploy it, the text file is gone because the live repo address has changed.
Is there a way using build hooks to get any files saved in a particular folder, add them to my git repo and then deploy the app? I'm not completely clear what I would write in a hook or what to save the hook as so any help would be awesome!
Thank you!
You need to store the file inside of your OPENSHIFT_DATA_DIR so that it will not get over-written each time. You can not copy the file into your git repo on the gear. You might want to try something like the WordPress cartridge does, which is create a symlink (using the deploy action hook) to create a folder in your repo dir that is linked to your OPENSHIFT_DATA_DIR (https://github.com/openshift/wordpress-example/blob/master/.openshift/action_hooks/deploy)
I'm a VSS (Visual source safe) & Dropbox guy but new to GitHub. I'm using Windows Github tool to manage repositories on our remote server as I concluded in my previous SO post. I was glad to have sought this single point easy to use tool without any need for a deeper knowledge of git.
Things have been working fine until one day I had to add a new folder
to my repository. The Windows Github tool wouldn't recognize the
folder as a new content to be pushed! After some struggle I derived
that it "does" maintain sync with my "initial folders" but simply
creating a new folder in the repository directory wouldn't sync it
like Dropbox!
I searched to know how I can do it or if I had to use GitShell. My bad any I tried it, failed. Finally, I decided to purge everything and re-create the repository folder structure with this new folder like I did with my initial setup. But I don't know how or why it kept saying that the /.git/index file was being used by another process. I tried to empty this folder but it wouldn't. Finally, a logoff was able to free that file for me and I re-created everything. Pheew!
I might be doing it wrong as a newbie or even misusing Git due to my Dropbox habits. Pls correct me! What would be the best way?
My usage is more like VSS & dropbox(with version control) in a small remotely connected team. I started with this simple Windows Github tutorial. What about the following two -
TortoiseGit
msysgit
Do they provide better management? Pls suggest if Windows GitHub is the best (if so how to add folders later?)
Just in case, do note that adding a folder won't trigger anything for Git: you won't be able to push it if that folder is empty, because Git will consider it as "no content", and will ignore that new folder.
See also "How do I add an empty directory to a git repository?".
If you add a folder and some files in it, then the GitHub for Windows interface will detect that new content, and ask you to add and commit, which means you will be able to push.
