Thunderbird removes any attempt to make an extension - thunderbird

I might be a complete idiot, so please bear with me if I am.
I've been attempting to create an extension for Thunderbird.
I quickly googled for an official documentation and followed it as closely as I could. This way, I ended up with a simple result to test, which would, according to the documentation, work.
So I opened up Thunderbird, nothing.
I closed it again and went to see what I did wrong. However, Thunderbird had completely removed the folder I had.
I did this a few times more with the same result.
This is what my folder setup looked like:
%APPDATA%/Thunderbird/Profiles/[profile name]/extensions/
foobar#foo.bar/
install.rdf
chrome.manifest
chrome/
content/
foobar.xul
foobar.js
locale/
defaults/
preferences/
The contents of these files were, at my last attempt, literally copy/pasted from the documentation, only with altered filenames(both in code and in actual files), extension ID(both in code and the folder name), and maximum version tag.
What exactly am I missing here?

I absolutely agree with using proxy files for addon development. But if you followed the guide mentioned by Jonathan Protzenko, your structure would look more like this:
%APPDATA%\Thunderbird\profiles\[profile name]\extensions\
foobar#foo.bar
SomeDrive:\path\to\some\place\
foobar_dev_directory\
install.rdf
...
chrome\
i.e, the development directory is not located inside your profile. Instead, consider the proxy file
%APPDATA%\Thunderbird\profiles\[profile name]\extensions\foobar#foo.bar
SomeDrive:\path\to\some\place\foobar_dev_directory\
You must only enter the second line, and never forget the trailing \ as mentioned here (3, Note).
Also you should uninstall the addon (if you had one with the same id created and installed before). When you start tb the first time thereafter, you will be asked to allow exernal addons to be installed or something similar.
I got things working this way, hope this helps.
A second guess might be the following: you're obviously working on windows. Are you viewing files always with extension in windows explorer? If not or not sure, check the following:
In Windows Explorer under Organize \ Folder Options \ View deactivate Hide extensions for known file types.
Further, try using a proxy file named differently, especially without the top-level domain. I suspect this could be misinterpreted by windows as an extension. You should call your proxy file thus foobar#foobar.

How to transfer files with Tramp using scp or rsync

I've read the TRAMP manual and dozens of forums across the web but I couldn't find an answer to this question. I am trying to set up a link in org-mode that transfers a file from a remote server to my local machine (or vice-versa).
According to the manual I have to write something like
/scp:user#host:filepathonremotemachine
and that's it. No specification of where the file should be moved to, which is weird.
I've tried to do it this way and it simply opened the file (as if I was using ssh); tried other combinations also, without any luck.
There is a specific reason for why I am trying to do this with tramp and not a shell:command link. Any help is very welcome
UPDATE
Apparently TRAMP is less useful than what it promises. That leaves me with the shell:command link option. The problem then revolves around avoiding the openssh window that pops out. The closest solution I found was here and it resumes to setting up an ssh-agent. I am not very familiar with this procedure and I would prefer to use the authinfo.gpg authentication method. Do I have this option? Thanks.
Tramp itself offers just alternative implementations of native Emeacs functions. In this sense, it is dumb, as every library, because it doesn't know what the caller wants.
I'm not an org-mode specialist, but could you please show, which kind of link you have in mind? Without any remoteness, just a link which copies a file locally. Replacing local file names with remote ones will be easy then.
I assume, you need something like an external link, evaluating Lisp code. Like
elisp:(copy-file "/path/src" "/path/target")
The following works (for some definition of "works"):
* link to copy a file
[[shell:scp remote.host.com:/path/to/file /tmp][scp]]
But you must have arranged for passwordless login to the remote host beforehand (e.g. ssh-copy-id your public key to the remote): given that, there is no output in the org buffer, no openssh popup, just the standard question from org-mode asking if you really want to execute the shell command and the file is copied quietly to its destination.

TYPO3 Backend Website-Panel is looking strange and is not usable

our BE-website-panel is looking kind of strange.
And we can't use the filter or add-new-element functions which are shown.
(We are clicking through to the sites themselves)
I didn't find anything regarding this bug so here's a screenshot:
backend
Also here's a list of the extensions:
extensions
I fixed the problem, altough i can't tell you where the error originated.
I downloaded the typo3_src-8.7.2 source files and overrode all my files via ftp, because i compared the whole folder with phpstorm beforehand and some files were empty on my side.

Setting up Sublime Text 3 w/ a local server for testing

I am taking a course on web development and I haven't been getting any help on how to set up Sublime Text 3 with a local server. I am being taught by some foreigners who can hardly speak English, so when I ask them, they don't really know how to explain it to me. Videos online haven't helped.
They want me to use Eclipse with Apache Tomcat, which I have set up, but I would like to use Sublime Text 3 instead of Eclipse, because I like it much better. I read something about MAMP, but again, I would need help setting it up. If anyone could point me in the right direction or give me a breakdown of what I need to do. My current assignments are with using AJAX & JSON... and then AngularJS. So I need to basically be able to retrieve items from a JSON file and insert them in my HTML, from a local server. I hope I made sense here.
Thanks!
Use livereload, it helps auto refreshing the site, it also compiles files like less, css, html, javascript and more. make sure all your files are in one big folder with sub folders for images etc.
Do you know how to use Terminal? The simplest way to set up a local server is to navigate to your project folder inside the Terminal and then type Python -m SimpleHTTPServer. Then, you will have a server running and you can go to your browser and go to localhost:8000 as your address.

Accidentally published CompositeC1 with precompile on

I accidentally published Composite C1 from Visual Studio with "Precompile during publishing" when I first set it up and have now come to realize that several plugins do not work with precompile turned on. Unfortunately I have no idea how to reverse this. I've tried several things to no avail. I usually end up with a 500.0 error. If I go to the admin interface everything is working properly, and I can even preview the pages, but from the customer side all I get is a 500.0 error.
Of course I could republish from the Visual Studio project I have, but that project has the default template on it. I've tried copying what appears to be changed on the server to the original project but I end up with a 500 error. I've tried removing all the precompiled stuff on the server but I end up with a 500 error. I'm pretty lost.
At this point I'm willing to do anything. Is there a doc explaining how to copy the content to a newly downloaded copy, kind of like an upgrade doc but "side-grading"? I am using the most current version at the time of writing this 4.2 Update 1
Thank you
Solved use the PackageCreator suggested by wysocki's answer. It was not exactly straight forward to create the package. The errors can very cryptic at times. So here are some of the issues I encountered and how I got past them:
wysocki was correct to suggesting starting with a bare bones installation even though my original project was started with the Venus theme. I tried both ways.
I encountered issues with the MasterLayout and the Page Template Features which are currently not supported by the PackageCreator, although they may be supported in future versions. The solution was to add the missing elements to the fresh C1 project from the original C1 installation in the App_Data/PageTemplates and App_Data/PageTemplateFeatures folders.
A few times I ran into an issue where I added the same page or function twice to the PackageCreator. This was obviously my fault, but it should be mentioned that you can add the same site element twice which throws and error on import. Make sure you are careful to only getting one of each when creating the package to be exported.
If you are getting and error and it uses and Id like "4061397b-ee9e-4512-984d-f2b2d41eb654" I've found that it was very helpful to extract the zip file you are trying to import and then search the extracted folders for that Id. The lines with the Id usually have more information on them that will help you to identify exactly what content page or whatever the error is being generated from.
If you are using installed packages in your project like SimpleSearch for example, make sure you don't add it's functions to the PackageCreator. Install them separately.
I had an issue where I somehow had an element in the Data section that didn't have a "type". The error simply "The type cannot be empty". This was obviously tough to find so I suppose the lesson is, less is more. If you think your project might have a few elements that are unnecessary, don't add them at first and see if the project you import them into complains about missing them. It's much easier to troubleshoot missing elements than it is to figure out which element is causing the issue that you really didn't need.
Is there a doc explaining how to copy the content to a newly downloaded copy
You can try and export content / templates / anything else related to a "package" via Composite.Tools.PackageCreator.
Its latest version gives you quite a lot of flexibility in what you can export ("package") - please its user manual.
Once the package is made and downloaded, you can go on and install it on a new website. If you export / import a lot of content / templates etc, it makes sense to have a "Bare Bones" site as the new one.
All the starter sites like "Neptune", "Venus" are installed as a bunch of packages in specific order during Composite C1's initial setup.

How to Change Netbeans Fonts and Colors Preview Document?

Within the Netbeans 6.5's Tools -> Options -> Fonts & Colors -> Syntax dialog, you have the ability to change the look and feel of the Netbeans text editor. When you select a language, you are presented with a preview of your font/color scheme. However, when I preview Java, there are far more options for syntax changes than are being displayed in that preview window. If I were able to view a more robust piece of code, I'd be able to see the immediate effect of more of the options.
How can I supply a preview document to view my font/color changes?
UPDATE:
After looking into this some more, I've been able to narrow down the problem a bit. From what I can tell, everything in Netbeans is considered a plugin. The GUI editor is a plugin, and even the text editor is a plugin. This means that what ever piece of Netbeans that actually analyzes Java code and does syntax highlights is also a plugin (since Java is just one of many languages Netbeans highlights, it makes sense this is a plugin).
I think fromvega is on the right track with his suggestion. The tutorial for creating a manifest file editing plugin pointed me in the right direction. The tutorial eludes to a file used as a sample document used for font/color previews. It tells you how to create one inside this new plugin project. (Located in "Registering the Options in the NetBeans System Filesystem", part 4. About 4/5 of the way down the page.)
My next line of thought was to look for the Java syntax editing mode plugin and find this file and update it with a richer example file. I looked in the installation directory and came up empty, but I found what looks like the appropriate files within my user settings directory. There is a config directory with a lot of subfolders within my user directory (Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\saterus.netbeans\config).
I've been poking around inside this directory a bit, but have only found the xml files the manifest tutorial talks about. I have been unable to find the extensionless sample file for the Java plugin that I believe should be there.
Since I've hit a brick wall for the moment, I thought I'd toss it back to the SO community and see if you guys might make the last leap and find the solution.
Just for anyone who wants to alter this themselves it is possible on a unix machine to use grep to locate the file i.e.
grep -lr "some part of the current sample code" /path/to/netbeans
I used this method to locate the ruby example filename and from that identified that it is kept in org-netbeans-modules-ruby.jar as a file called RubyExample. By simply altering that file I was able to construct a better sample file for my own use.
Hope this helps someone!
The document which is displayed (for each mime type) is specified in a particular folder in the "system file system" (which is a NetBeans concept which is a virtual file system composed from contributions from individual modules; this is how functionality is dynamically registered in NetBeans).
Modules typically specify their system file system contributions in a file named "layer.xml" in the plugin. The create plugin templates typically offer to create this for you.
For example, here's how the Python example is registered:
<filesystem>
...
<folder name="OptionsDialog">
<folder name="PreviewExamples">
<folder name="text">
<file name="x-python" url="PythonExample.py"/>
</folder>
</folder>
...
Here, PythonExample.py is a sample file in the same directory as the layer file.
Therefore, what you need to do is create a plugin which overrides the existing registration(s) for the mime type(s) you care about and provide alternate sample documents. You may need to hide the existing registration first (see the _hidden
part from http://doc.javanb.com/netbeans-api-javadoc-5-0-0/org-openide-filesystems/org/openide/filesystems/MultiFileSystem.html ).
Hopefully this guides you in the right direction.
However, in thinking about it, we probably ought to make the preview area editable - so people can cut & paste whatever codefragment they care about right in there. This wouldn't be persistent, so whenever you change languages you get the original samples back - but it provides a quick way to see your own code. This shouldn't be just for the Fonts & Colors customization, but for the Formatting preview panels as well.
I've filed an issue against NetBeans for this:
http://www.netbeans.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=155964
-- Tor
I think you can only accomplish that with a new plugin, since you need somekind of parsing to define what is what.
Give a look a these tutorials, I haven't read them in details but they seem to show you how to do what you want:
