Facebook appends parameters to a url when it is liked - facebook

I’ve recently added a Facebook like button to a site of mine and all seems to work fine except that the post on my Facebook wall has a url with a load of parameters appended to the url.
Example: http://domain.com/this-is-a-new-post-to-test-the-url?fb_action_ids=1403388974344336068&fb_action_types=og.likes&fb_ref=sp_facebook_57&fb_source=aggregation&fb_aggregation_id=247881481237582
I have set the open graph meta tag but this does not seem to make any difference.
What I find interesting is that some pages I’ve liked (on a different domain) don’t have these parameters appended to it.
The question is: how to “sanitise” the url on my Facebook wall so it looks like http://domain.com/this-is-a-new-post-to-test-the-url and NOT like http://domain.com/this-is-a-new-post-to-test-the-url?fb_action_ids=1403388974344336068&fb_action_types=og.likes&fb_ref=sp_facebook_57&fb_source=aggregation&fb_aggregation_id=247881481237582

Facebook adds these parameters so that website owners can keep track of where incoming traffic from Facebook originated and can not be removed.

Move facebook likes from one url to another

Over time I have built up a number of facebook likes on page = http://www.andy-howard.com/verticalAndHorizontalAlignment/index.html
But I need to convert this page to a php script (to be content manageable). Most likely it will be = http://www.andy-howard.com/code-help.php?id=143
Is there a way I can transfer my existing facebook likes to the new url?
You can’t transfer likes from one URL to another.
Only thing you can do, is make Facebook “believe” that the URL is still the old one – by setting the og:url meta tag in your new pages to the old URLs.
Facebook will use that value as the canoncial URL to identify this Open Graph object and to fetch the Open Graph information from, so you will have to see to it that those old URLs are
still available for the FB scraper to visit,
give it the OG info it is looking for, and
that “normal” visitors are redirected to the new URL, should Facebook link them to the old one
How to detect that the FB scraper is requesting your page, is described here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/#scraperinfo
I don't think there is a way to transfer likes from one url to another. Facebook like plugin is designed so that you can be on one page while actually liking completely other page (i.e. url). If that likes really matter, you can save the old url in database for each content and continue collecting likes for that url and just redirect visitors from that url to the new one.

Facebook like a different domain

OK, I have the standard Facebook Like code.
But we are ajaxing in Tumblr posts from the Tumblr feed and putting the FB Like button in.
So we are LIKING the Tumblr post URL.
However the page is not on a Tumbler URL, so FB momentarilly shows the comments box, then replaces it with a Confirm button, which triggers a popup. Like in the popup, then it allows you to use the normal JS comment that should appear on the button.
QA and UI have flagged this up as unacceptable, so is this a massive UI failing by FB? Whatever it is, and how can I get around it?
If we LIKE a unique URL on our site/domain this works as intended;
BUT THEN we would have to write a backend to receive that URL and present OG tags for FB to scrape, probably grabbing from the tumblr post.
Yes, by default the Like plugin it will search the page for og:metadata,
to go forward you can use the new build in, Open Graph Like Action
http://developers.facebook.com/docs/opengraph/actions/builtin/likes/
So, now you can associate each Open Graph object with a like.

Like button for Facebook page shows generic Facebook description in News Feed

I want a Like button on my web site that Likes my Facebook profile (rather than my web page), so that when a user clicks it they subscribe to my Facebook posts.
I've created the Like button using the tool at https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/
Further down that page there is an FAQ entry:
Can I link the Like button to my Facebook page?
Yes. Simply specify the URL of your Facebook page in the href
parameter of the button.
So, I've edited the href parameter to point to my Facebook page. eg:
https://www.facebook.com/myfacebookid
When a user clicks the Like button it has the desired effect. The user ends up having Liked my Facebook page. This is easily verified by the user going to my Facebook profile and checking that the Like button has changed to Liked.
But. When the user clicks the Like button, and entry appears in their News Feed with a generic Facebook description. ie:
Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and
others who work, study and live around them. People use Facebook to
keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, post links
and videos, and learn more about the people they meet.
I don't want a generic post about Facebook to appear. I want the description to relate to my Facebook account and/or web site.
Normally, I could modify this behavior with the Opengraph og: description tag, but as the page in the href is a Facebook page and not my own, I can't control the Opengraph tags.
I'm pretty sure that this was working okay before I enabled timeline for my account, so maybe this is a timeline bug?
So, how do I add a Like button which a) Likes my Facebook profile rather than one of my own web pages, and b) Posts a description of my Facebook profile rather than give a generic Facbook description?
Are all your fields in the info part of your page filled in, and/or completed? I just tested your theory and it seemed to work as expected, only thing is I know all fields in "info" are filled it. Give that a try.
This may happen if you have filled invalid/incomplete/wrong og tags in past and later changed them. Facebook's cache creates problem sometime.
Try putting all the entries (i.e. all og tags) and then debug them here http://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug. This debugger gives a detailed info about the url with og tags and also clears the cache for you.
This should solve the problem.
You have 3 important fields that used on page opengraph: Name,Description,Profile Image.
They are used when some one post your link on Facebook, or Google or some else web service that handle opengraph.
Actually, the suggested answers currently do not work and there is an open bug / ticket on Facebook for it. Up to now, there's no fix.
The problem is that you can not use simply https://www.facebook.com/myfacebookid. You should copy and paste the exact page URL. If you have a low number of likes it would look something like https://www.facebook.com/pages/[YourPageName]/[Your page Id]/, and this is the URL that you should use at this point.
If it does not work, try also https://www.facebook.com/[YourPageName]/[Your page Id]/.
In short, copy-paste the URL, do not type it manually.

Why do app posts to Facebook not show as pasted via my app, despite OK OpenGraph response?

We have an app on Facebook called TouchActive
We provide ways for user to post content to Facebook, either from web (via AddThis) or native Android/iOS app.
When we post from say Android we identify the app and the post appears correctly, showing "... via TouchActive" all fine.
When we post from web, we post a URL that Facebook queries, and we provide an OpenGraph response from our server with all the og: meta tags, including the facebook app_id.
The content appears correctly (it's parsing the OG response OK), but it doesn't show as posted via our app, and the posts don't appear in our Insight statistics for the app.
We are assuming this can be done.
Anyone know what we could be doing wrong in our open graph response that causes this to not work?
I have tried the Facebook debug tool https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug and it shows the correctly parsed OG response and no errors, only a warning about og:url.
Is og:url recommended or a MUST for this to work?
Andrew: I am also using the same meta tag for my site and it works as expected and the post is attributed to my site. I guess u should specify the og:url meta-tag once and then check. As this url is used on the attributed app's anchor link on fb wall.
If still it has the same issue then we can dig it more to come to solution.
A user manually sharing a link to or liking a web page which has opengraph meta tags (including an App ID) is not the same as posting the content from the app - are you definitely posting the links using the app?
You must post via the API to get the post attributed to your app, regardless of which app is specified on the page's meta tag (which is done primarily for insights and administration purposes)

Facebook comment/like url

Am having difficulty with the url for the facebook comment and like plugins. if I put in a simple url like "www.example.com" it works fine but my app is on a subdomain and uses querystrings to differentiate between different page states. So a sample url would be something like "facebook/example.com/index.php?id=001". However it appears facebook doesn't like this and keeps saying it is unreachable.
I can't believe facebook would limit the scope like this. Someone else must have encountered this. Any suggestions?
Facebook posts have an id something like 123456789012345_123456789012345.
The part prior to the underscore is the page id. The part after is the post id. The URL would be https://www.facebook.com/pageid/posts/postid, or https://www.facebook.com/123456789012345/posts/123456789012345.
Check your URL in Facebook's Debug Tool and this will show the tags Facebook is detecting on your page -in particular check your og:url tag isn't ommitting the URL parameters
