I want to share an image from a website on Facebook and pass some attributes (e.g. a description) to the status update, all done by clicking on a link.
A few months ago this worked fine using the sharer.php but by now this script just accepts a URL as parameter and scrapes the target site for Open Graph meta tags. This new approach isn't very helpfull if you just want to share elements on a page instead of the whole page.
Yeah, I could create an app and use the feed dialog to achieve my goal. But I honestly don't want to walk through the tedious app validation process just to share an image with some additional info!
So, does anyone know of a way to avoid this app hassle? Perhaps some undocumented parameters for the new implementation of the sharer.php?
There's no need for app validation - as #CBroe correctly stated! So the feed dialog IS an adequate solution!
Background: I assumed an app needs validation to go live. But I just didn't set up my app properly to make it available to every Facebook user.
See the comments to gloat over my stupidity. ;)
I am posting an Open Graph story using the graph API but the post is not shown anywhere on my Facebook wall and there is nothing in my Activity Log either.
I configured the story in the App dashboard. The object has one custom property and it is a self hosted object with a public URL. I used the object debugger tool https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug to make sure that all the metatags (including the one for the custom property) are there and no errors are shown.
Then I make this call to post the story:
https://graph.facebook.com/me/namespace:action?access_token=ACCESS_TOKEN&method=POST&result=MY_OBJECT_PUBLIC_URL
and I get the post ID in the response:
{
"id": "SOME_ID"
}
I can even get all the information related to the post using the graph API with the Post ID returned.
HOWEVER, I DON'T SEE THE POST ANYWHERE ON MY FACEBOOK WALL, NEWS FEED or ACTIVITY LOG.
Any ideas of what might be happening?
I am having a related problem (I think). Let me first say that I use our own Action Types and Stories (i.e. https://graph.facebook.com/me/:).
What I noticed is that while the action does not appear on my wall, it shows up on my friends' News Feed (so even if I can't see it, they can "like" and "comment" on it), and also putting it's ID on the Open Graph Action Debugger tool, I can see the post's details.
BUT, what I also noticed is that it shows up in my activity log! (button on the right-bottom position of your cover image) Then, if you go to each activity entry, there is a small icon on the right with a pencil on it. Clicking on it, it shows that this means that the activity/action/post/whatever is "allowed" on your timeline. But, if you change that to Show to Timeline, it will actually be shown!
So, I think this is where you/we should look further (for example a setting/permission request to enable this by default -- not sure if anything like that exists though).
First at all you need to get approval for every item of your open graph story. You can test your application without approval un-publishing it and adding some user as testers in the Role settings.
Now, to see your open graph activity in your timeline after publish you should configure the Additional Capabilities for you action type. So you need to check the Explicitly Shared option in the Capabilities section for you action. After that you need to include the parameter fb:explicitly_shared=true in the open graph call.
You can take a look to the Additional Capabilities here : https://developers.facebook.com/docs/sharing/opengraph/using-actions#capabilities
Explicit shared should be added in the post parameters.
Refer this link
You may need to enable the 'explicity shared' setting for the open graph action in the Facebook Developer App Dashboard in the website.
You need to add "fb:explicitly_shared" action parameter with value 'true' while posting it.
Also you need to toggle explicitly_shared in Actions' properties configuration page.
You need to be an administer of the app otherwise you will need to get the Stories approved by Facebook.
Hope this could help.
I could totally be wrong, but you may need to submit your Open Graph action to Facebook for approval. And you'll need to set explicit sharing if you want your action to show in places other than your own timeline and activity.
I say I could be wrong because you should at least be able to see your action within your activity log. It's difficult to say without looking more closely at your Open Graph Action and Object.
I had the same issue, I could post the stories but could not see it on the timeline, issue was FBDisplayName in the app has to be same as the one configured in the FB developer console.
make sure to add the Canvas URL under the "App on Facebook" section, I hope it works for you
I successfully published a story from website via Feed and also another approach via sharer.php, but I want something different.
Downside of what I have now is that a picture is small and on the left side. There are no custom verbs as well.
I have seen something like (you can see a screenshot) a bigger photo and custom verbs like '%user got a new highscore at %site', etc.
Please look at a screenshot here
So I want to publish something similar what's shown on above picture. But with different text. 'Got a new highscore on'.
P.S. I want it to be done from website, where user has to log-in via Facebook.
I'd like to replicate the "Like" button functionality in an iPhone application using a native widget. The URL associated with the Like would be a product page with details on the manufacturer's website. Unfortunately, Facebook's Like Button [1] only supports the iframe version. Is there any way to have a user "Like" a URL without using the Like Button?

There's no API to actually create a Like connection.
Looking at the Facebook Developer info, it appears it is possible to Like an Open Graph Object if it already exists in the Open Graph database. Look for the "/OBJECT_ID/likes" method under the "Publishing" section of the API Reference. It says you can "Like the given object (if it has a /likes connection)".
But I do not believe Facebook provides the ability to create NEW Open Graph objects (for, say, a webpage) programmatically. If anyone knows how to do this, I would be interested to hear about it.
There looks to be an assigned bug about not bing able to create new Graph Objects via the API: http://bugs.developers.facebook.net/show_bug.cgi?id=10714
We want to have our own "Like" system with an additional "Dislike" option, and if the user "Likes" something with our system we want to create a Facebook Like in the background. It seems we will need to pre-Like all of the objects (thousands of pages!) so this won't work for us. :(
Firstly i know that the documentation provided by Facebook says that fb:multi-friend-selector can be used in pair with fb:request-form and that it could only sends inviations or requests.
I have more specific need and that is not only to make invitations/requests but also along with the previous to post something on selected friends walls.
I've tried everything but i cant take the id's selected from the fb:multi-friend-selector, so i'm unable to make this posts.
The doucmentation for fb:multi-friend-selector says: This interface includes a series of which are included for selected users in the form that gets submitted to your action URL.
Is it somehow possible to catch this id's?
I'm working on my app in C# .net.
I read in some of the previous posts that is treating problematics similar to mine that is impossible to do this, but i found application that works perfectly in way that i want to make my application.
Thanks in advance,
Ivan
You can access the selected friend's id in the page that you are providing in "action" of fb:request-form.I am working with PHP so i am able to get those selected friend's id as $_REQUEST['ids'].So try some equivalent methods in c# for this.And if you get the friend's id you can publish to their wall.
