On a published tableau report you can drill down the Date axis to get a more granular view, ie Quarter to months to days.
My question is - there is no drill up to go back ie days to months to quarters. Any one knows how to go up? You only get a plus button and not a minus button.
Thanks
Gemmo
Well, there is actually a minus button, just checked.
If you have a Date axis by years, and click the + button, it will create a sub axis of quarters, but the year axis will still be there. You can go deeper by clicking the + button on the quarters axis, or go back to just year level by clicking the - button on the year axis (always look for the - button on the top aggregated axis)
For discrete dates Tableau shows both the minus and plus buttons for changing the granularity of aggregation.
For continuous dates Tableau only shows the plus button for drilling down. It is super frustrating. The only way to change the date aggregation if you use the continuous measure is to click on the right side of the pill and select the desired aggregation level form the options listed.
Here is a link to a Tableau forum where people are asking for the drill up feature to be added: https://community.tableau.com/ideas/1304
This like discusses continuous and discrete date types in some detail

You will find a minus symbol in the published view after you hover over the left side of the aggregated view.
Say you want to view the drill up for quarter, hover over near the quarter on the left as shown in the picture below and you will find the icon.minus view (check the arrow area)
Yes is it possible to view (-) after click on (+) sign because the reason is that when you expand the year and view quarter of month year will be there.

back to minus sign (-) click and collapse the year.

Hello Power BI :)
My line chart is not showing hierarchy date as I want. the "Expand down level in the hierarchy" is not working as expected.
I want to see the X Axis by: Month, Quarter, Year as below:
But all I can get is the below:
I want to see lines instead of these dots as well.
How to fix that, what's wrong that im doing ?
Thank you
If I guess right- You are getting single Dot as you have data for the year 2020 only. Now you have option of drill down on right top of your line chart as shown in the below image. You can go to Year, Quarter, Month, Day using those options.
I have the following calculated field in Tableau :
[Nb of articles]/TOTAL(COUNT([Post reach]))
However I want my total to be calculated only at a weekly level.
Hope I'm clear.
Thanks !
I found the answer on the community of Tableau users :
1. Select the measure second time (Row/Column shelf)
2. Click on this second selected measure in the row shelf (or column where its kept)
3. Move to the "Quick Table Calculation" in the drop down menu which appeared
4. Select "Percentage of Total" from the sub menu (This should add a second chart with percentages)
5. Now, drag and drop the measure to Label (second chart would disappear as measure is moved to label mark)
Very easy ! :)
I have a Tableau Public sheet with 4 years of data.
Each day has a value, and I am showing those daily values as a box plot - one for each month of each year.
Currently it is set up as 4 rows (1 for each year), and 12 columns.
See here:
https://public.tableausoftware.com/views/boxplotsbyyearmonth-dailyvalues/Sheet1?:embed=y&:display_count=no
What I want to do is drop to a single row, and show all 4 box plots side by side within each month, colored by year.
I can't elaborate what exactly I have tried, as I am new to Tableau, and have done a lot of clicking around looking for options, and have tried searching various sites and Google, to no avail.
Is there a simple trick to this, or is it something complex I have to do to?
UPDATE:
I have figured out how to get them lined up correctly, by dragging the year dimension to the columns section, which I had tried, but then I had to reset the other dimensions, and it took.
What I still can't figure out is the coloring.
By dragging the year to the color property, it colors the outliers, which are separate marks, but the box plots are not affected.
When you pull the year field to color it will color the marks (all of them, including the outliers). If you want to change the color of the box plot container you need to select it and right click.
I made some edits, let me know if this is what you were trying to accomplish:

I would like to create a dashboard showing Level Funnel for the users with respect to their register date on the same chart.
My data is like the following:
And from that data, I would like to create the graph like below:
But in tableau I couldn't manage to combine those graphs below, which are separated day by day:
I tried to follow this steps, http://downloads.tableausoftware.com/quickstart/feature-guides/combo_charts.pdf however I couldn't find 'Customize Marks' button in the menu.
That would be great if you can help me on how to combine these graphs into one graph.
Thanks.
Drag the DAY(Date) field from the row shelf to the color shelf
One way to think about it: When you have the DAY(DATE) field on the row shelf, and you've configured it to present as a discrete field, you are telling Tableau to "make a row for each day". When you move that field to the color shelf, you are instead telling Tableau to make a color for each day. The same mental substitution works for discrete fields on most of the other shelves, like columns, shapes, pages -- i.e. make a page for each day.
So I have created a chart that shows the amount of different priority calls that my team has taken over the past 3 months for each subtype.
The X axis shows dates, and the Y axis shows amount of calls taken. There are four priorities (p1,p2,p3,p4), and these are represented by the areas on the graph. I want the priorities to show in the order p1,p2,p3,p4 but instead they are showing in varying order over the the different subtypes.
How do I lock the priorities in the order that I want?
Right click on the chart → open Chart Expert → go to the Data tab
Your call priorities should be listed in the upper-right hand corner in the "On change of" box. Click on the "TopN..." button and verify that "No Sort" is selected. Now go back to the previous screen and now choose the "Order..." button.
By default, your priorities should be sorted in ascending order. If that is not working, you may want to consider putting it in specified order which will allow you to explicitly "lock in" the order that you want these to appear. Keep in mind that in a Stacked Area Chart, the specified order is actually bottom to top which is somewhat counter-intuitive.
