Cannot install Groovy-Eclipse on STS - spring-tool-suite

It shows that groovy-eclipse has been installed, however I cannot find any groovy related options in creating new file wizard.
I see the same in both 3.5.x and 3.6.0.

Try upgrading/installing Groovy and Grails from this update site.
You should be able to see in the log why Groovy plugins failed to start. Perhaps they were unresolved due to something missing from the installation. The most likely cause is JDT Java 8 patch for Groovy hasn't been installed. Therefore, ensure all Groovy features selected when installing Groovy from the update site above.

Not able to install Groovy Eclipse plugin in Eclipse 2022-12

I haven't installed the Groovy Eclipse plugin for a while because I mostly did not need it anymore. However, I'm now looking at one project that I need this for.
I'm using Eclipse 2022-12.
When I attempt to install the latest Groovy plugin from the Marketplace, it simply says that both "Eclipse Groovy Development Tools" and "Groovy-Eclpse M2E integration" will "not be installed", but "Groovy Compiler 3.0" and "Groovy Compiler 4.0" WILL be installed. This clearly is not very useful. It doesn't say WHY it won't install the main tools.
It says the requested version is "4.8.0.v202212311456-e2212-RELEASE".
Update:
This is the dialog that I get, and the ONLY dialog that I get:
Update:
After realizing that I should have selected "Show Original Error", this is what it gave me:
Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.

This looks like a missing m2e artifact.
Update:
I attempted this installation of GroovyEclipse from the MarketPlace client (v4.8.0.RELEASE). Apparently that version is not compatible with 2022-12, so I used the update site specifically for 2022-12, https://dist.springsource.org/release/GRECLIPSE/e4.26 , which I got from https://github.com/groovy/groovy-eclipse/wiki#releases . Unfortunately, the result was exactly the same. I clicked on "Show original error" and the error message was identical, character by character.
Groovy Eclipse 4.8.0 has two issues with Eclipse 2022-12.
If you install a packaged release, it is not possible to patch JDT Core plugin. https://github.com/groovy/groovy-eclipse/issues/1425
(As you have noticed) m2e 2.x made breaking API changes. You can install m2e 1.x or ... Groovy Eclipse 4.9.0 has made the necessary changes. https://github.com/groovy/groovy-eclipse/issues/1405

Not able to setup STS in Eclipse Luna (4.4.1)

I am a new to STS and Eclipse and need some help. I am getting following errors while trying to install or uninstall STS thru Marketplace.
Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
Software currently installed: Java implementation of Git - optional Http support using Apache httpclient 3.6.2.201501210735-r (org.eclipse.jgit.http.apache.feature.group 3.6.2.201501210735-r)
Missing requirement: Java implementation of Git - optional Http support using Apache httpclient 3.6.2.201501210735-r (org.eclipse.jgit.http.apache.feature.group 3.6.2.201501210735-r) requires 'org.eclipse.jgit.http.apache [3.6.2.201501210735-r]' but it could not be found
The error looks like there is a problem finding a specific egit component from the Eclipse update repository while installing the STS components. Maybe there is some stale data in the p2 cache. Try to delete the "p2/org.eclipse.equinox.p2.repository/cache" directory and try again. Maybe that helps. Otherwise I would recommend to use the ready-to-use STS distribution, as mentioned above.
Download whole STS IDE from Spring site.
Everything works out of the box and you can install plugins you are using.
It is Eclipse pre-installed with Spring friendly features.

STS 3.6.4 Gradle tooling not available?

I've just downloaded Spring Tool Suite 3.6.4 (201503100339, Eclipse Luna SR1 (4.4.2)) on Windows 8. I'm attempting to import an existing Gradle project, but this option is not available within the import menu.
Playing a hunch that Gradle support may have been removed, I sought to install it from the Eclipse Marketplace. But when I found "Gradle Integration for Eclipse (4.4) 3.6.4.RELEASE" the only option available was "uninstall", implying that it was already installed.
Is there something I need to do to "Activate" the Gradle tooling?
The Gradle tooling is not installed by default if you download an STS distribution. You should be able to install it from the Eclipse marketplace or the dashboard.
If you are not sure whether this is installed or not, you can check that in the about dialog. There is an option to inspect the installation details.
#Martin - I repeated my last steps, and this time "Gradle Support" installed without incident. I have no clue what is different now, but the error about "connector not available" went away. I now have Gradle support. Thanks for your help! - k
I checked the issue with the Marketplace again and it looks like a limitation of the Eclipse Marketplace client at the moment.
More details:
The Gradle IDE contains three features that should be installed. One of these features is the dashboard - which comes with STS by default. It looks like the marketplace client checks the already installed features and whenever it finds one of the features of the item to be installed in the existing installation, it enables the "uninstall" button. This seems to be the reason why the Gradle IDE entry from the Marketplace is listed as "uninstall".
I filed a bug for this against the Eclipse Marketplace. Lets see that happens. As a workaround, you should be able to install the Gradle tooling from the dashboard or the STS update site directly.

Is there a simple XML editor w/ syntax highlighting?

I use Eclipse daily in a VERY limited scope, I would consider myself an Eclipse newbie.

I use eclipse for editing javascript files. I'm not a web developer, I develop custom applications for a popular web based ERP application and they're written in javascript. I use JSEclipse (I know it's old, but I still haven't found anything better, including Aptana) with Eclipse classic.
I do sometimes need to edit xml files and even less frequently the source of html files. Currently when I open these files in Eclipse they are displayed as just basic text. No syntax coloring and the Outline window has nothing to say about the doc. I've been googling for about 20 minutes and I'm having a hard time just finding a simple plug-in that I can use with my current installation that will provide syntax hilighting. I suspect there must be one out there, but my searches are missing it somehow...
I don't want to install a different version of Eclipse, I have 3 workstations configured with my environment and don't want to stir everything up. I tried installing the "Eclipse XML Editors and Tools" from the WebTools project but it failed out with several missing dependencies.
Here are the detailed error messages:
Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.

I'm concerned about starting a "dependency chase" and before I know it I've installed a handful of things that will have who-knows-what impact on things.
Does anyone know if a simple, lightweight plugin that I can install from the "Help > Install New Software..." tool in Eclipse?
Have you consider this one?
http://editorxml.sourceforge.net/
Best Regards!
The XML editor from the WebTools project is the way to go. Since you didn't post the exact problem that you encountered when trying to install this plugin, I cannot help you further. I suggest that when you encounter a problem installing a certain plugin that you post the following information:
The exact details of what you have installed. Base version is a start, but you should also include which package you installed and general description of other plugins you installed into it.
The exact error message you got during plugin installation.
BTW: Eclipse 3.5.0 is very old. Version 3.6.2 is out already and 3.7.0 is going to be out in a few days. At the very least, you should run search for updates and move to version 3.5.2.
Update: Based on the provided error information, it looks like you are trying to install the version of XML editor that goes with Eclipse 3.6. Make sure that you install from the following repository and disable "check other repositories" option in the install dialog.
http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo/
If you accept editors outside of Eclipse (I had to read the whole story to see "plugin"...), I just use SciTE, and Notepad++ should do a similar job.
For real XML editing, I found Exchanger XML Editor to be quite efficient.
Shouldn't Eclipse be able to edit XML natively? It should colorize them if they are in a project, I think. I should try...
[EDIT] Indeed, it works. But I use Eclipse Helios for Java developers, perhaps it has some goodies from a base Eclipse.
In my configuration, it opens by default XML files in outline mode. Strangely, if I open them with a text editor, I have no syntax highlighting. I have that with the Ant editor, but then it will report errors (probably checking the DTD/schema).
Free, opensource. Works with 4.5. http://www.gstaff.org/colorEditor/
LiClipse (http://brainwy.github.io/liclipse) provides a lightweight XML editor that provides syntax highlighting just fine.
-- i.e.: it's target is exactly providing lightweight editors for a many languages in Eclipse (note that it's commercial)

Installing Eclipse

I am installing Eclipse for RCP and RAP Developers. My old copy went rogue and decided to act up.
So clean install time! Yay! I downloaded the new version, copied it to the opt folder, extracted it, and ran it.
For some reason, I can't install any plugins due to some crap error*, and it doesn't have a list of default plugins. I deleted my workspace and the original Eclipse install.
Is there another file that is helping Eclipse keep data from previous installs? I am seeing update sites I added when I was constantly trying to get past this issue.
Also, why can't I install new plugins?
I need a clean install so I can't use the Ubuntu installer.
Any tips are appreciated.

I had the same problem when doing a fresh install of Java EE eclipse (helios, galileo, win32 and win64).
The solution for me was to explicitly open the Java perspective, and doing the install after this. This time the installation worked fine.
I suspect the reason is that after a fresh install not all bundles are loaded (although they are present on disk; a feature of eclipse) so that the dependencies cannot be resolved. Opening the Java perspective or creating a dummy Java project will force to load these bundles. Once a bundle is loaded, its existence is persisted, so this only has to happen once.
This issue was mentioned a number of time on the official websites, but always closed or neglected, probably because the reproducer did not do a fresh install.
Download Eclipse 2018-19 (4.9.0) version as an updated eclipse version and install it! Maven dependency will presented inbuild thing in that model, Right click on project -> properties -> on left pane, Maven will display ! Change your setting there to overcome this error and you can add external JAR'S there
