I have just installed raspbian for my raspberry pi and I tried to install fswebcam with sudo apt-get install fswebcam and I get the error:
dpkg: error: syntax error in file triggers file `/var/lib/dpkg/triggers/File'
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
I then thought about doing an update so did:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
This also produces the same error:
dpkg: error: syntax error in file triggers file `/var/lib/dpkg/triggers/File'
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
The packages download but can not install.
Here is the cat of the file and it does seem wrong:

I would prefer not having to re-install raspbian but I will if I must
Thanks
In the end I unfortunately had to format the sd card and reinstall raspbian. The output of the file is a lot more comprehensive now. I will put the contents at a later date.

I'm using Mac OS Big Sur (v 11.4). Wehn I try and use "wget" on the command line I get this
$ wget http://localhost:8000/user/testuser
dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/opt/nettle/lib/libnettle.6.dylib
Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/wget
Reason: image not found
Abort trap: 6
Even after running "brew install wget" and restarting my machine, I get the above error. How do I get "wget" to run normally? This is the path where wget is installed ...
$ which wget
/usr/local/bin/wget
Edit: In response to the answer given, here is the output ...
$ brew install homebrew/core/wget

That's interesting. wget from homebrew-core, the default package repo for Homebrew, doesn't depend on nettle at all.
Where did your get wget installed from? Uninstall wget and reinstall it back from the default pkg repo.
brew uninstall -f wget
# tell brew to get wget from homebrew-core explicitly
brew install homebrew/core/wget
Don't know if you managed to fix this, but I had a similar issue, found fix here: https://github.com/Homebrew/discussions/discussions/3920
brew reinstall z3
I'm trying to install kinetics ros on ubuntu 16.04, followig the guide http://wiki.ros.org/kinetic/Installation/Ubuntu
The problem starts when I code this in terminal:
sudo apt-get update
The resume of the result is this:
W: The repository «http://packages.ros.org/ros/ubuntu $ (lsb_release Release» does not have a Publication file.
N: Data from a repository like this cannot be authenticated and therefore its use is potentially dangerous.
N: See the apt-secure (8) manual page for details on creating repositories and configuring users.
E: Failed to get http://packages.ros.org/ros/ubuntu/dists/$(lsb_release/-sc)/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 140.211.166.134 80]
E: Some index files could not be downloaded, omitted, or old ones used instead.
I'm new in this, so I suposed that the problem was kind of resolved using the 'old ones instead'.
So I've continued with the guide and I code this in terminal:
sudo apt-get install ros-kinetic-desktop-full
And the resume of the result is the following:
Errors were encountered while processing:
ros-kinetic-eigen-stl-containers
ros-kinetic-geometric-shapes
ros-kinetic-collada-urdf
ros-kinetic-robot-model
ros-kinetic-robot
ros-kinetic-desktop
ros-kinetic-simulators
ros-kinetic-desktop-full
E: Sub-process / usr / bin / dpkg returned an error code (1)
I dont know if this two problem are related, but I dont know how to start to fix its.
I apreciate your help.
Thanks for your time.
I think something went wrong when you did Step 1.2 of the instructions. These two lines look very wrong:
«http://packages.ros.org/ros/ubuntu $ (lsb_release Release»
http://packages.ros.org/ros/ubuntu/dists/$(lsb_release/-sc)/binary-amd64/Packages
lsb_release is a command that was meant to be executed in that step, and the result should have been added to the apt source. Instead, it seems, it was just added as a string.
Please execute once more:
sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://packages.ros.org/ros/ubuntu $(lsb_release -sc) main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ros-latest.list'
and make sure that no space is introduced anywhere when you do that. To check that it worked, verify that you get:
> cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ros-latest.list
deb http://packages.ros.org/ros/ubuntu xenial main
If you do, then run sudo apt-get update once more. After that
sudo apt-get install ros-kinetic-desktop-full
should succeed.
I have an issue while using apt-get to update or install something on my Raspberry pi 2 model B.
I get this error whenever I use apt-get:
dpkg: error: corrupt info database format file '/var/lib/dpkg/info/format'
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
I found in the Ubuntu forum that printing "1\n" to the format file would be the solution, and I tried that without succeeding.
When I print "1\n" to the format file and execute an update or install I get the following error:
dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting:
files list file for package 'acl' is missing final newline
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
That smells like filesystem or disk corruption. You might need to fsck it, and see if other files have been damaged, or do a badblocks check or similar.
I get the below error when I do: sudo apt-get upgrade
Please help:
Extracting templates from packages: 100%
Preconfiguring packages ...
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dynamic-link.h: 190: elf_get_dynamic_info: Assertion `info[20]->d_un.d_val == 17 || info[20]->d_un.d_val == 7' failed!
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (127)
Most probably file system was corrupted. I had to reinstall the OS :(

Does anybody have a suggestion?
In ubuntu you can install latest on this moment postgresql 9.5alpha2 from my ppa by this series of command from terminal:
sudo apt-add repository ppa:kazan417/postgresql
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install postgresql-9.5 postgresql-contrib-9.5 postgresql-client-9.5
This commands not just install postgresql also it setup evrything you need for running postgresql.
Also you can install additional packages. or if you want harder way compile it from source by "dpkg-buildpackage" - this is better ubuntu way of compiling. And then installing by dpkg -i .
Here link you can find more info like dsc file and orig.tar.gz for compiling.
