I'm looking at the iOS Developer University Program, and wondering about how you share application with each other. It says that you can post them to a private website for presentation and grading purposes. What does that mean? Can I post it to a private website, so other people can download it and install it?
Anyone who can explain?
Okay i'm gonna try my luck here. I haven't heard of the University Program but, if you can compile on device, you can create .ipa files and simply share them. As if you wanted to put them on your own private store. (Which is what you're asking).
If the above is correct, then follow theses steps i've copied from a previous post of mine ; also, if you need more information about this process, make sure to ask in a comment :)
I work in a company that releases on a private store too, and it works in a very similar way. The only difference is, Apple does not check the app and it takes 1 minute to upload it, not 2 weeks.
How it works :
Generate the ipa for entreprise distribution (with the correct
provisioning profiles)
Upload the ipa wherever you want, if you need
something beautiful, you could make an app that lists your IPA (your
store ^^) with information about it, and a link to download it (look
below)
Upload the .plist file and make it so the url in the url field
is the .ipa that you uploaded on step 1.
Create a basic HTML page with this line where you want it : Users can now clic it and download
;)
*<*a href="itms-services://?action=download-manifest&url=YOUR-UPLOADED-PLIST-FILE.plist">Clic here ;-)</a>
(I had to add two ** at the start otherwise SO would show it as a link.)

I'm just trying to load my first app up to App Connect in order to let a few friends test it. So they can download it.
Got though the first few headaches like Frameworks not being set up correctly...
Now of course the final authorisation has failed due to lack of certain images and icons non of which I'm bothered to do right now I just want to be able to remotely share the app.
Do I really have to get all that stuff fixed first?
Is it not possible to share a slightly rough version via TestFlight?
EDIT:
These are my errors. Not sure what the first error means but the others obviously for missing image data.
First, I'd recommend fixing those errors anyway. They're simple. Just add an app icon with the correct sizes. It doesn't have to be a good/final icon yet. You can use my script here: https://gist.github.com/DaveWoodCom/0b9dd0efb9d10f0f0ba9977ccc35a86a
that takes a simple 1024x1024 png file and resizes it to all the required sizes for you. It even gives you a Contents.json asset catalog file.
Second, if you're just sending the beta to your friends, you don't really need to go through TestFlight review yet. You can either create a user account in App Store Connect for each of your friends (note: I'd recommending using your own email address me+friendsname#yourdomain.com for their accounts so they can't actually log into ASC and see any of your data), or you can create an Adhoc distribution profile for your app and include your friends device UUID's. Then you build your .ipa file and send it to them to install. You could even use a new project I've just created: https://github.com/DaveWoodCom/OTAgo and let them install the app over the air, via a web site. Note that project is brand new and thus is still in beta (will change a lot in the coming weeks, but it should be decent enough for your use case).
I have uploaded my binary file using the application loader to the apple store,
the uploaded file is .app, I compress it and I send it, and it was successfully sent.
My question is, when I try to open the .app, I found just the pics and plist and shell of the application, I didn't find the header and implementation files,
the file uploaded just contains the .app file, should it contain other files like .mobileprovision or others????
How will Apple check the code?
First of all Apple does't check code in reviewing process.
I am not sure what's the internal process of reviewing the app but they actually review the following.
1. Use of private APIs
2. Crashing of app, start-up time while launching the application.
3. Human Interface guidelines.
4. Privacy of the user, if you are taking private information without actually needing them.
5. Memory leaks and performance issues.
6. Copyright content or copyright images.
Don't worry. Application will test app file and approve if it is according to Apple Guideline. Don't worry regarding application header file and implementation files.
Usually takes a week before your App get in Review status, really depends on how many Apps they have to review!
Be patient, have a glass of wine and Good luck mate!
I have built an app for Apple's App Store, now I want to submit the app to the Cydia store. How can I do this? Should I just post the app.zip file built for the App Store to the Cydia store?
There are a few differences compiling your app for Cydia vs the App Store. Big Boss does a good job explaining the difference in his post:
How to Compile for Cydia Submission
You should check out iOSOpenDev. It incorporates a lot of Cydia tweaks, Theos, Activator and all kinds of other things into Xcode. It allows you to create a new (Cydia) tweak of your choice and you can even launch that tweak on your device from Xcode.
To submit an "App Store" app, you would need to make sure you adjust the user directories. Since you will install the app into /Applications, there will be no sandbox; no Documents directory dedicated to just your application.
You will also need to sign your app with ldid. This "fake" code-signs your application so it can run in iOS. To submit the app to Cydia, you would need to find a repo you are comfortable with hosting the app, like BigBoss.
Be careful though, submitting an App Store app to Cydia could potentially get your app thrown out of the App Store and your developer account revoked.
In terms of building an actual full application, I believe the development process is the same but the compiling and preperation of the binary is different. The provided link is a good resource
If you intend to make a tweak which hooks into existing Apple classes and methods then you need something like theos by DHowett, a good basic tutorial is here
u need to create a repo. or send them to MMi's collection
to make a repo read Saurik's Guide: Here
Or read the easier guide that MYI made for us at: Here
to submit a package to the MMI repo,
try the Developer Portal:
http://modmyi.com/mmi/
Some info regarding paid packages:
http://modmyi.com/cydia/cydiastorefaq/
Basically, all the content in your theme must be your own original work.
All the graphics / sounds must be created and owned by you.

Well first of al if your app.zip is the .app file found in the payload folder of a .ipa file, then disregard this next step. Anyway, open up app.zip, go to payload, and then take out app.app. Make the app.app app.zip. Now go to http://www.myrepospace.com/iDeb and upload your app.zip. Then when it's done, download your new .deb file.
Despite of the title you seem to ask about submission rather than (or in addition to) building. I'd consider this the one best reference:
http://cydia.saurik.com/faq/repositories.html
It is from Cydia itself and includes sschunara's links and other BigBoss references plus more.
In order to distribute my iPhone for test purposes on a couple of device Over the Air, I have created an AdHic distribution profile and followed the explanation I found in this blog (sorry it's in French but the screenshot are quite detailled):
http://www.media-business.biz/content/iphone-cr%C3%A9ez-votre-propre-appstore
I install the position profile on the device from my web site but when it comes to the application I have an error message saying it's impossible to download the app.
Is this a known problem ?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Regards,
Luc
ps: just adding a last minute question... is there a place I could see some error logs ?? :(
Here's another explanation in English. This distribution method only works with devices running iOS 4.x
Make sure that:
The IPA file name matches exactly the name of the server (case sensitive).
The bundle version number is identical in the IPA file and your plist file, and that you update it every time you make a new IPA (or the phone will think it's already installed and not update)
You are using an itms-services:// link to point to the plist file, and the plist file has the correct URL to your IPA file.
When you go into Organizer and press the "Share" button, you select exactly the distribution profile you intend to use (sometimes I think it can select the wrong one with automatic).
I had this exact same issue, and it was because I hadn't installed an AdHoc mobileprovision file and was building against my Dev mobileprovision. Check that first.
I finally found testflightapp.com, that is really great !
I also think testflightapp.com is the most convinient way to do this, as long as the beta testers you'll contact accept to sign up there. The great additional value is that if you install their SDK in your app, you'll be able to monitor the activity of your beta-testers (for instance you can define waypoints with definite names).
However, if:
You already konw the UDIDs of your beta testers
You just want them to be able to click on a link from your server to start installing the app,
You don't need "in app" follow-up and just request feedback from your testers,
Then I strongly recommend this tutorial:
I want to submit my application in AppStore. After i have gone through the docs there, i see i should go to iTunes Connect and fill the form to submit my application in AppStore. If someone already did it, can you guys please share your suggestion?
I did build 'Distribution' in my Xcode project and compressed my app ready, i want to upload it in AppStore as i have already a developer account.
** I also want to know, should my build be created using 'Distribution' configuration and built with Distribution provisional file? I have three provisional file created such as Main provisioning profile in 'Provisioning->Development' tab in Portal and Ad-hoc, AppStore provisional profiles in 'Distribution' tab in Portal. Which one i should use in Xcode and build my application to upload that in AppStore? Can i use any one of the three?
**Can i go to iTunes Connect and fill the form to upload my app? During filling the form it asks for 'Does your product contain encryption?' Why is that and what does it mean? After further filling up the details, will it ask me to upload my Zipped application(myApp.app file) there? How would be the process further, just give me some brief idea please?

I also want to know, should my build
be created using 'Distribution'
configuration and built with
Distribution provisional file?
Yes. Your build must be signed with distribution profile. And do not forget about Entitlements.plist file
Can i go to iTunes Connect and fill the form to upload my app?
Yes :)
After further filling up the details, will it ask me to upload my Zipped application(myApp.app file) there?
Yes, there will be a screen where you should upload your zipped binary (as well as 512x512 Application icon and screenshots)
How would be the process further, just give me some brief idea please?
You'll need to fill some forms - application description, category, pricing, stores where distribute your app, some questions to rate your app (in case it contain "objectionable" contents) etc
Anyway (IMO) everything is user friendly and clear there.
In order to upload your app to the app store you must build with a distribution profile, thats pretty much all you need...If you dont know what using encryption means then odds are you are not using encryption so check no for that...after that its pretty straight forward you fill out the info form and submit it for review. If at any step you do something (such as use a wrong provisioning profile) itunes connect will tell you and wont let you proceed, so if you succesfully finish submitting the app then you are good to go...there is also an itunes connect guide you can use here https://itunesconnect.apple.com/docs/iTunesConnect_DeveloperGuide.pdf
Go here:
http://developer.apple.com/iphone/
On the right of the page, there is a section called "App Store Resource Center", and inside of that there are some great resources like Preparing your App for Submission, etc.
Also, under the Distribution section of the Program Portal, there are some answers to questions like how to build and zip your app for submission, and properly configuring Xcode for the build.
Encryption:
The reason it's asking you for this information is because there are laws around exporting certain types of encryption. You would know if you are using this in your application. If you said yes, there would be some follow up questions and it might lock your application to the US App Store only if your encryption was too high to export. For more information on encryption, your friendly neighborhood search engine can do the rest :)
