On the Server
I have the Mongod instance running on my server.
I created a User on admin, using which I created a user with readWrite role on the database that I wanted to access.
Updated the mongo /etc/mongod.conf file:
commented out the bind ip
uncommented auth=yes
Restarted Mongod using sudo service mongod restart
On the Client:
The db.auth(user, pass) command works fine on the remote server, but shows auth failure on the client (my home system).
I made sure that I was using the correct database with the use myDb command.
PS. I am able to connect to the mongo server using the mongo xx.xx.xx.xx:27017 command. But unable to Authenticate.
Please help. Mongo v3.0.3.

i am trying to connect to a remove Mongo server from Mongo shell but when i run the mongo shell it keeps connecting to the localhost by default, if i enter exit to connect to another mongo server, the shell closes
i tried changing the mongod.cfg file and set the remote server ip and port but it did not work
i tried to connect to the remote server from the windows CMD but i keep getting this error SASL mechanism 'PLAIN' is not supported
how can i change the default connection of the mongo shell to connect to the remote mongo server?
mongod.cfg is for your local mongo server. Changes in this file have no effect on the client/shell.
The authenticationMechanism parameter in your command should agree with remote server configuration and authenticationDatabase should be the one where the user is registered on the remote server.
There are good chances authenticationMechanism is default SCRAM and the database is "admin".
Try mongo -u 'username' -p 'password' --authenticationDatabase admin host:port/db
I have Amazon EC2 instance running Ubuntu. I have installed and configured PostgreSQL.
Contents of the file /etc/postgresql/9.3/main/pg_hba.conf:
local all all md5
host all all 0.0.0.0/0 md5
Also in postgresql.conf
I have set listen_addresses='*'.
The test command below is successfully starting psql console.
psql -U postgres testdb
Now I am trying to connect pgAdmin4 from MacOS.
I have created a SSH tunnel with following command:
ssh -i ~/.ssh/test.pem -fN -L 5433:localhost:5432 ubuntu#mytestdomain.com
Now I have following details in pgAdmin:
When I save, I get this output:
Unable to connect to server: server closed the connection unexpectedly. This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request.
What am I doing wrong ?
Here is the solution,
install pgadmin 4 into your system. and configure the below-added configurations. if the below configurations do not work then please check that DB user permissions on AWS. because of the restriction on IP level so it may not be able to access.
I have a Meteor app running on Cloud 9 and I would like to connect to MongoDB from a window app that I am in trial period (DBSCHEMA: http://www.dbschema.com/).
Cloud 9 guys told me that I need my DB to listen to 0.0.0.0:8082.
In cloud9 I started my app using command: $ meteor --port $IP:$PORT.
I also created a db and user that has role "userAdmin" to this database.
In another terminal, at c9, "Meteor mongo" command give me connecting to: 127.0.0.1:8081/meteor
In DBSchema ping to the server is succesfull, but connection is refused.
So, I am trying to change to 0.0.0.0:8082 but I cant figure out how and not sure its going to work.
Any suggestions please?
use environment variable MONGO_URL=your-mongo-server-ip-or-hostname:8082 in meteor and start mongo with port 8082 on 0.0.0.0 with the config file
http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/reference/configuration-options/
Ideally, you should not expose you dB to the outside (so not bind to 0.0.0.0 which exposes the DB on all interfaces including the public IP).
If you want to access it with Robomongo, bind to localhost, and then you should create a ssh tunnel to the server from you local terminal with the command
ssh -L 8082:localhost:8082 your-host
then connect to it with robomongo at localhost:8082 –
I am trying to connect to a mongodb database I installed on an Ubuntu VM on Microsoft Azure. I did the following:
Created virtual machine.
sudo apt-get mongodb (I connected to the VM with ssh).
Created an Endpoint on the Azure Management Portal with both public and private ports set to 27017.
When connected via ssh, running the mongo command allows me to view and access the data stored in the mongodb, but when done remotely, the connection fails with:
Sat Oct 11 13:34:08.378 JavaScript execution failed: Error: couldn't connect to server xxxxxx.cloudapp.net:27017 at src/mongo/shell/mongo.js:L114
I think I am missing something pretty basic here. Hopefully someone out there can help me?
It looks like mongo has some problems when connecting with a regular string. Might be related to this JIRA.
Try to connect with the following syntax: mongo -u <user> -p <password> hostIP:port/db
make sure you unbind the IP for connecting remotely to it by editing:
sudo vi /etc/mongod.conf
Set bind_ip=0.0.0.0
sudo service mongod restart
to test, use: `mongo SERVER-IP:27017/DBNAME -u DBUser -p DBPass
I have a MongoDB database on my Linux server. I want to access it from another server. I tried to make a connection from my local computer with the Robomongo. The connection is succesfull, but the authentication fails.
How can I get the authentication credentials? Or should I change something in MongoDB before I can acces the database from another server / pc?
Someone else have set up this database, and there is no possibility to ask him this questions.
I have found the solution by my self:
The File etc/mongod.conf has a line 'bind_ip'. In this line, you originally have to add the IP address which you want to access your database. But, it don't work! You should better comment this line.
But, you don't have any authentication now, so you have to add authentication. Here you have an tutorial about this: http://ghosttx.com/2012/03/how-to-connect-to-a-remote-mongodb-server-with-mongohub-for-mac/
When you have done that, you have to enable authentication. You can do this by editing etc/mongod.conf again, and uncomment the line 'Auth = true'.
Now you can connect with you Mongo Database ;)
Ive sorted it by adding ssh option to RoboMongo following this link:
http://www.mongovue.com/2011/08/04/mongovue-connection-to-remote-server-over-ssh/
Im on OSX and connecting to Ubuntu 14 / Mongo 2.6.7 on VPS and when Ive added my ssh details to the Robomongo all seem to work ok (Ive also changed the mongo config to remove the ip_bing and enabled port 27017)
If you do not like to bother with authentication and stuff just make an SSH Tunnel:
ssh -fN -l username -i .ssh/id_rsa -L 9999:localhost:27017 remote.com
Just connect to mongodb on localhost:9999 and it will establish a connection to your mongodb on port 27017 on your server at remote.com.
Run your mongodb with following command to access mongodb from other servers
mongod --port 10945 --bind_ip 0.0.0.0
I was not able to use Robomongo with MongoDB 3.0 too (connecting from a Windows machine to a Linux one, using SSH). The only tool that works for me is MongoChef (http://3t.io/mongochef/).
