How to estimate current situation of an old site not created by myself before i launch my new one? - facebook

I need to do SEO and need to show improvements and a summery of new trends for a site.It is a replacement for an old site. How i can prove that i have done a good job on SEO,using google analytic and Facebook Conversion Tracking.Is there a way to get current site statistics? Then i can show, i have brought him more viewers to his new site.

If the previous site doesn't already include google analytics tracking codes then no, it doesn't keep track of any statistics. You can implement them though to the old website keep it up for a month or so, gather the data required and when you launch the new one, then compare them.

Google Fit Rest Api Step Counts inconsistent and different from Fit App

This seems to be a common enough problem that there are a lot of entries when one googles for help but nothing has helped me yet.
I am finding that the results provided by the REST API for estimated_steps are wildly different from those that appear in the device app.
I am running a fetch task for users via cron job on a PHP/Laravel app.
I'm using this https://developers.google.com/fit/scenarios/read-daily-step-total - estimated_steps to retrieve the step count.
Some days the data is correct. Some days its wildly different. For instance, on one given day, the REST API gives step count of 5661 while the app shows 11,108. Then there are six seven days when the stream is correct.
Has anyone faced this sort of behavior? I've tested for timezone differences, logged and analyzed the response json to see if i'm making some obvious mistake, but nope.
You may check this How do I get the same step count as the Google Fit app? documentation. Be noted that even when using the right data source, your step count may still be different from that of the Google Fit app.
This could be due to one of the following reasons:
On Wear, the Fit MicroApp when connected will display step counts queried on the phone and transferred over via the Wearable APIs. Other MicroApps accessing local-only data will only get watch steps. We are working on making this easier for developers.
Sometimes the step calculation code for the Google Fit app is updated with bug fixes before we are able to release the fixes to developers (which requires a Google Play Services release). We are also working on making it possible for developers to access fixes at the same time.
The Fit app uses a specific data source for steps and it adds some functionality (which can be seen on the documentation) on top of the default merged steps stream.

Social networking analytics tools

I'm looking for analytics tool for a Facebook application. I need to do a brief about free available tools.
Currently I'm only familiar with Kontagent web service (Its not free).
It works like this:
When a user performs an action that creates an important event, our application sends a log message to kontagent web service telling that an important event has taken place. Kontagent will then process and log this data, to returns reports, graphs, and metrics.
I've made some searching about it and found only payed tools (RavenTools, Rankur, Radian 6)
Do you know of any free tools that provide analytics capabilities for Facebook Events?

I'm sure your brief is already done, but for anyone else looking at this, if you have a Facebook page (such as a fan page or a business page) FB has "insights" which tell you "like" growth (decline) rate, click rate, view rate, repost rate, etc...you can download this all for free and create awesome crosstabs (if you know how to use Excel) with all sorts of data.
Additionally, HootSuite has SOME tools for free (such as click rate) and a sliding scale for other analytics.

GAPI Class, Google Analytics API

I am about to start a new project in the Google Analytics API & PHP.
I read that Google Analytics will be deprecating XML v2.3 and v2.4 and in 6 months time, so aparently you will only be able to use v3 and retrieve information in JSON format.

My question is the following: Does this means that GAPI class won't work any longer? Anyone who has used this class before can help me answering this question ??

I've been using GAPI for a while now. And I can say with some confidence that yes it will break, if not due to XML it will be due to some other change google makes.
Having said that GAPI is the best solution I have found out there for php. It does break every 6 months to a year, usually needs one or two lines changing to fix. But GAPI is pretty popular so at least you know when your clients are calling saying analytics is throwing errors at them, you wont be the only dev tearing your hair out.
9 times out of 10, by the time I've got a problem someone else has found the fix - which is nice.
There are a few other php options out there but GAPI seems to be the most popular (usually the best way to go imho)
My approach is to build an analytics summary in the dashboard and provide a link to google analytics underneath so clients can see the full data or go there when GAPI breaks. I have been putting all my sites on the same modular system for a while now. I keep GAPI as a library in my admin layout module, this means I can make the fix once and roll it out to all my sites without too much drama.
In summary, use it but expect it to break - that way you wont be disappointed when it does.

How do sites like tabsite automatically hook up with Facebook Developer to register new apps on the fly?

have developed some quite good basic Facebook App development experience, can hook apps up to databases, have different info installed and displayed on different tabs no probs. However, everything Ive been doing so far to date revolves around me manually going into my developer account and setting up each apps settings individually, one at a time. Am curious to figure out how people like tabsite have created an interface that captures users input data and displays on tabs (that part i understand) but also it registers new apps each time on the fly (this part am curious about how its done), allowing them to add individual app logos, tabnames etc without the user ever having to go anywhere near the developer set up. And how are tabsite getting data back from the developer such as app_id or app_secret??
Any insight much appreciated.

As I recall there isn't a way to register an app using the API. They probably just use only one app, and then check the signed_request variable to get the Facebook Page ID, which they then link together with the data in the database.

You're allowed 2 tabs on a single page on their free account. But you can only add an app once. This implies they've either created a number of apps that are exactly the same(11 would be my guess as that's how many tabs their best plan offers) There used to be a way to do it using one of the old SDKS but as far as I was aware it was deprecated and is no longer available.
The fact that you say you can customise the tab image though, does imply that they're creating new apps, as far as I am aware you can only customise the image within the app settings in the developer app.

Which CMS do I need? Needs to be easy to post a certain kind of post

I'm creating a site for a video store and it needs to be CMS. I'm doing this for free so I need to use a free CMS like Wordpress, Drupal or Joomla.
Do I need a new CMS, a plugin or some PHP of my own?

Categories
Custom post
Here's the site as it stands with WP: http://sundancevideo.ca. Right now an experimental site to try to work this out.
What I've done now, is created a "Draft" that includes a template table with images and text and so on. The user would then have to copy everything, past into a new post and replace necessary. This really isn't working well. As you may notice by the condition of the posts.
What I would prefer is if it was integrated into the WP UI. Like a field for "Description" and field for "Image" where they can upload the images as necessary. This would then generate post, with a table including all the information and images, for as many movies that were added in the UI.
I would suggest taking a look at PodsCMS as a great way to implement real CMS functionality in to WordPress. It allows you to create various content types, relate these content types, and more importantly live outside of the "WordPress bubble".
You'll find a fairly good codex and user guides (the ones authored by Johnathan Christopher are a great start). There is a solid API for this in the event that you need to integrate Pods in to an existing plugin or one you are creating. There are also developer and user contributed packages for Pods and there is even a YouTube video package you may want to check out.
PodsUI (soon to be merged with PodsCMS) allows you to create administration menus in WordPress very easily and allows you to pretty much make it look and feel how ever you want.
Flutter is a dead project and while it may be a little more user friendly than PodsCMS it lacks in in development, support, and over all usability.

As for the user accounts you should read up on WordPress user roles/capabilties and also check through the WordPress PHPxref. A lot can be done in the way of using WordPress' current user system and you can even add other meta information for users if needed.
If you want a full CMS backend then you can't use Wordpress without extensive customising. You might want to check out pods cms for Wordpress which is an extension to attempt to turn Wordpress into a CMS. However, I have tried using it before and you will still be left with a confusing UI for your users. It will allow you to do the custom fields you want, however.
If you want full control over the UI, you will have to use either your own PHP or Drupal. Which one depends on how complex the project is and how much experience with Drupal you have had. If it is simple and your Drupal experience is limited, definitely go with your own PHP because Drupal is hard to learn. I think it would take you more time to learn Drupal than it will be to get a simple interface going with PHP.

i don't have particular suggestion for you custom need. Except beware for how much you give permission for your member. Please make sure they were a contributor and not author. In wp, the contributor role has no ability to publish. They have ability to post something just as a review. Thus, Administrator can review them and then published if it appropriated.
The problem with this situation is when you need them to upload things. The member with contributor role has no ability to upload video, image, or song. You have to custom this.
But if you only need their snippet or HTML link to the video (probably in youtube), then you don't have to change default wordpress role.

I guess it depends on your shop's needs. I understand wanting to use wordpress, and you can do it, but at this point it almost makes people think... 'why?' If youre just going to use paypal and have a few products it might be a good idea but I think carts like zencart and oscommerce that are much better suited to store's needs. Though they are a little older. Magento and opencart are more modern, and all free. Though I've only ever used zen cart. None of these are terribly hard to set up. I guess You could always have you wordpress from page and use a link to your carts store menus.
MODx is brilliant for customisability - it was designed from the ground up to be extensive. It runs on PHP and MySQL.
You can create your own templates, add fields to those templates that appear in the UI when someone wants to create or edit a page based on that template. It has widgets for different data types, like images, dates etc that your users can use to add data to a page.
You also have full control over the HTML because you write the templates yourself. If the core code doesn't do what you need, you can write snippets in plain PHP to change the behaviour.
I've used it on a few projects over the past 3 years and I love it. I'd recommend MODx Evolution (v1.0.3) as that's stable. There's a brand-new rewritten version (Revolution 2.0.0) which is a release candidate at the moment, so you might want to have a play with that instead.
I reckon once you know MODx enough to create the site design, it'd be fairly easy to implement an off-the-shelf shopping cart into it (there may even be a MODx plugin that already does this.)
